    • That was actually TAVISTOCK. Getting sober get's you really knowing these things without any anger. War on drugs is part of the theatre. Two sides of the same deception. Get sober, wake up, know yourself (don't let it go) and than you'll see the truth with no desire to blurr it with anything. Including screens. Rare moments to experience (yeah, I'm lost here writing), but these light so bright that are worth every effort. Reality is perfectly beautiful and amazing. No fiction can match it. Take care.

We had the internet back in the 1990s, but not to the extend we have like today. Many young adults and teens back then knew of this stuff, many didn't care and those that did talked about it were bullied... called a communist or socialist. Having a different opinion back then was a bigger deal than today... could get you into big trouble or worse death. Just ask the gay community how much things have changed for them in the last 30 years or so. In the 1990s, you were brutally murdered for just saying you're gay, just ask Mathew Shepard. :(

  • The 'sorry I was taking life seriously' bit is so poignant, just as much liberating is the no holds barred humor. The way Bill Hicks weaves narratives about a fractured, flawed world with such relentless abandon, while never shying from baring his deeply compassionate soul, eternalizes him as one of the greatest artists ever. With the times the way they are, can't help but so wish if he were still around, helping us navigate through all the madness, channeling angers by calling out those at the helm, mocking those who think they are at the helm, with kindness and without losing faith in what's worth.

    • TL;DR warning with some story time and a follow up to my previous commentary. RIP to all of the greats we've lost. I bawled my eyes out over Bill Hicks after seeing this video, researching him and watching other videos of him. A great comedian I never had the honor and pleasure of seeing live. This is one of the good things about the evolution of data communications, the Internet and social media, we get to revisit entertainment we may have missed because we simply weren't aware of it. I would have loved to have videoed when I saw the late Sam Kinison live at The Bacchanal in San Diego in 1990 especially when he roasted a heckler. We didn't have smartphones with video capability back then. You never heckle a good comedian during their show or you become a bit in their act and they will throw you into the comedic woodchipper and everyone will point and laugh at you. A good comedian will have some type of empathy and sympathy where they can gauge their audience and do improv material. They're street psychologists and sociologists and extremely good at what they do. Every good comedian(ne) we've lost I've shed tears for because of the new laughter they're not able to provide the world. I bawled my eyes out when Sam Kinison passed along with his protégé Ralphie May. I cried like a bitch when Joan Rivers and Don Rickles passed away. I had the honor and pleasure of seeing them both live in Vegas. We're fortunate to have people such as this content provider who took an archive of a great comedian(ne)'s work made a video clip of it and uploaded it to some social media platform. That's cherishing their memory and them making people laugh from their grave. While it sounds morbid, it is indeed an honor of their memory. Cheers! 🍻

  • I'm glad Maynard from Tool helped introduce me to Bill. Every time he does that long about drugs and musicians, I instantly hear Third Eye. For those unaware the audio was sampled towards the beginning. Different show but same lines. Third Eye, Ænima (1996). Sad that they never got the chance to do what they had talked about. Bill opening for Tool on tour. Bill eventually wasn't sure it would work and it never happened. It was too late once MJK tried to talk to him again. He was private with his health problems.

    • @@poop10I Fair enough. I think Hicks is funnier by a long clip. I have to admit that I am more familiar with Hicks and that most of the Carlin stuff I have seen is towards the later side of his career. I think that Carlin neglects to tell jokes a bit too often rendering him more towards preacher rather than comic a little too often for my taste. Hicks did the preacher thing but the joke was never far away. It's all a matter of taste, I guess.

    • @Hibernian ICA I mean, I really don't think so at all. He doesn't have the same presence, his delivery is lacking compared to the real greats. I think Stanhope is less on point culturally although that's tough to blame him for because culture is so damn fractured (rather than being diverse). If you're part of this same libertarian type subculture as Stanhope then you're going to enjoy him a lot. But his appeal is quite narrow. Bill Burr is better for someone that is still around. He's got that attitude but he's funny with it. More twisted, less preachy. I think that Burr, like Hicks, actually goes further with the conspiracy stuff than Stanhope and Carlin even though their reputations don't reflect it. Hicks said a lot of stuff that at the time would have seemed so outlandish that they wouldn't sound like true feelings, just jokes. But a lot of that came true and he definitely meant it. Burr does similar. Normal jokes, all funny and stuff, then some twisted stuff about the illuminati and shit. I don't think he's telling us stuff which he thinks is definitely true in the specifics but he's telling us how he thinks the world operates. Every authority corrupted by some alliance intent on pulling all the strings. We don't quite know what it's called, not sure many do. The theories that you hear are a distraction from what is really happening. There's this tension in Hicks, Burr... this shit is bubbling in the background because they know they can't change it and it's not that funny to talk about for too long. We've come a long way in terms of the average person knowing that something is up but it's still alienating to focus on this stuff too much. You won't get the same platform because it's just not that appealing. I like how Hicks had broad (ish) appeal and was hysterically funny a lot of the time but still said this stuff some of the time.
