  • My dad died 4 years ago. Watching the last couple of scenes where she was sleep the whole time made me cry my ass off. The last time I saw my dad he was just in bed, sleeping didn't move a bit, slept the whole time & it brought me back to that. I miss him everyday, it never gets easy. What a strong man & a wonderful friend

    • That's all you took from it? So you're basically saying, you ''approve'' of the late woman because she shared your religious beliefs? Do all the other people matter less to you? How pretentious, patronizing and hypocritical. It's not about that AT ALL.

  • I didn't know what I was getting into when I pushed "play". I was just looking for a movie. My father died 5 weeks ago from cancer. There is no way to ever prepare for such a thing and the change that takes place in you is unlike anything else. I have such an intense longing to be in heaven now, to watch dad experience all that he is. It's life changing and nothing's the same as it was. The brevity of life is shocking. I've been needing to cry again and this movie accomplished it. Wonderful acting. Bless you Matthew, for sharing your family's story.

    • My dad died pretty sudden, at 19. My best friend died from cancer in my earlier 20's 1 year after I divorced and he was a rock to me. The leukemia took him pretty quick. Last year my gpa died from cancer that was a lot like this movie. My gma had a stroke last year snd I moved in w her to help care for her w my son. This movie had me balling and I found out it was true at the end which made me cry more because my best friend that's a guy just came into town this weekend after 2 years. (Which is also the best friend to my friend that died from leukemia)He is "the friend" and I would be his and all of our significant others understood that and never had any jealousy or issues. This movie hit close to home.

  • Matthew, I just watched “Our Friend”.....you get 5 out of 5 tissues from me !! I’m not an eloquent writer nor am I anyone in the movie industry, just a lady from Wisconsin who found your story to be quite beautiful and emotional as well. You definitely did Nicole and Dane justice! I lost my father to cancer with aids related complex in 1995. At a time when AIDS was an epidemic, it was very scary however, I masked and goggled up and did what I had to do to help take care of him. So I REALLY felt it at the part of the movie when Nicole’s end was near. I also had that ONE friend, the only one who took my kids so I could bathe and feed my dad, who came to hospice with me when I needed a friend, who did everything she could to make life easier for me so I could focus on my dad .....she was even there holding my hand when he took his last breath. She was my friend and is still my best friend today, 34 years....wow !! This movie put in perspective for me how important it is to be there for one another....friend or family.

  • Thank you to Matt Teague for writing such a truthful and very genuine story. It's really incredible this story of how Dane came to live with you and become a co-caretaker. Not everyone gets that kind of support. Best wishes to you and I'm so sorry for your loss.

  • Matthew, this was a beautiful and truthful story about cancer. A true friend and how hard death can be. My step daughter was shot in the head and has been such a shock ever since. Jennifer and Kim both have diabetes, Michael auto imune system and myself have been cancer free for few years now. Death has no boundaries. I love you Matthew.

  • What an amazing story/ movie! I’ve never been so emotional watching a movie. My sister was murdered, so I didn’t get to say goodbye. If I could have I hoped I could have done it with all the love and support in this film. Much love.

  • Such a beautiful story. Hard to believe such a friend exists. This is “The Notebook” cry type of movie.

    @anaplacencia3026@anaplacencia3026 Жыл бұрын
    • Notebook is a typical hollywood melodrama built around unrealistic romantic ideals/expectations. This movie is a serious drama based on a real-life tragedy. Not appropriate to put them in the same category.

  • Sadly, That’s how we westerners deal With death, to just not talk about it.. which is bizarre, because in many older countries it’s the opposite, death is talked about honestly and openly; as a part of life, a celebration of a soul transitioning

    @BBPalmer420@BBPalmer4202 жыл бұрын
    • How pompous. Don't pretend you know other cultures by quoting some new age pop psych platitude. There is nothing ''celebratory'' in death from horrible disease, violence, war, tragic accidents etcetera. Even in those cultures that speak about death more openly people STILL grief for their loved ones. People nowadays understand that death is a part of life and they do honour the lives of departed yet they simultaneously understand that it's also a tragedy (in most cases) and a horrible loss. Matt meant not just the dying itself but what preceeds it aka Nicole's grave illness (again, NOT a cause for ''celebration''). Pick some nuance.
