The Raniban check-post lies in the southern slope of the Nagarjun hill. It is about 3.5 kilometers from the Fulbari gate on the dirt road that leads all the way to Jamacho Peak. In Nepali, Raniban means Queen's forest. And as the name suggests, this forest has been a royal playground for a while. It all started with King Surendra back in the 1850s when the king gifted this patch of forest to one of his daughters. Currently, the last king of Nepal, Gyanendra Shah has a bungalow in the upper stretches of this forest. Raniban also holds history that dates far earlier than the Kings as shown by old cave temples in the area. On your way, you will see the way to the Cave of Buffalo Buddha.
