To the Father, through the Son, in the Spirit - Bishop Barron's Sunday Sermon

Friends, today we come to Trinity Sunday, which has been called “the preacher’s nightmare.” But as you probably know from previous sermons of mine, I don’t agree with that at all. I think every Sunday is Trinity Sunday. The Trinity names what is most fundamental and basic in our whole theology and spirituality, and we should rejoice in talking about it! Today, let’s look at the Trinity through three lenses: the words of Scripture, an analogy from St. Augustine, and the viscerally real “so what” of salvation.

  • Please pray for me and my children. Prayers are all I need. I’m so discouraged and I’m losing hope. I’ve had so many people come against me that do not know me or my situation. OUR HEAVENLY FATHER KNOWS the truth and my heart! My struggles are real! Jesus hear my prayers. I still trust in you and will keep my faith even though it is so very difficult at this time. I’m constantly faced with hardships and can barely support my two sons. Both of my boys are autistic and non verbal. I’m a single mom and I’m overwhelmed. Since covid I can’t seem to get back on my feet. I lost my job at Forsyth hospital for declining the vaccine. I declined because of my health conditions lupus and heart disease. I recently started waitressing and I’m glad to be working. But I’m just not making enough to get by. Every month is a struggle choosing groceries over paying bills. Struggling to pay rent. I know God doesn’t give us more than we can handle I will keep faith even though I truly want to give up. Jesus hear my prayers and keep me and my children safe I’m losing hope. ❤

And for the record I'm a traditional Catholic and I want to tell my traditional friends that this Bishop is no "liberal" Catholic. I said that as some of you say repeat that lie. He is just a holy priest, you can't put a label on him, as it should be. He is 100% faithful to the magisterium. He is certainly and intellectual, speaks several languages, etc. He is just a holy son of God and a great bishops who should be made a Cardinal. Let's pray for that. Is payer can move mountains, it can make our reverent Bishop a Cardinal. Amen.

  • While the Trinity is a mystery that we can't completely comprehend, it's clear that we see the effects of the Trinity in the love we experience with one another, the Love the Trinity shares, especially as God pours Himself out in the Son so we can be part of the Love that is the Holy Spirit. I like how Bishop Barron uses gestures to illustrate his big idea in this sermon. And yes, we celebrate Trinity Sunday every Sunday because we begin and end the highest form of prayer, the Mass, with the Sign of the Cross. Alleluia!

  • Dearest Bishop Robert Barron, Good Morning! Thank you for the Sunday sermon today. The holy trinity is my faith and my salvation. Hymn! Holy, holy, holy! Merciful and mighty, there are three distinguishable persons; the Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each person is God. They're known as my comforter, shapes my life, guides my decisions to be available to others, and protects me from physical and spiritual danger. When I looked deeply at Jesus on the cross, I stood for His pain and the grief of the Our Lady of Mother's sorrow because, without the Holy Trinity, I don't have strength, peace, joy, and forgiveness. Bishop, thank you for all your prayers for my family. I pray the Trinity draws near to us as we continue to spread the word of God. I hope our relationship has joined as one flesh with the grace of the Holy Trinity. God bless you all. Most Holy Trinity, pray for us. Our Lady of Lourdes, pray for us. St. Joseph, pray for us. Faithfully yours, 👵Cecilia Dreger and family ( 👀- farewell Father Rory Pitstick) Wilbur Sacred Heart Parishioners( Bishop Thomas Daly_________🧔‍♂).

  • Well said, your Grace. I was discussing this with a pious but open-minded Muslim yesterday who could follow the logic or apologetics of the Trinity, but still could not accept this mystery in faith. Since conversion to faith is a grace from God, perhaps you would be open to making a video on how not only opens the mind to understand Christian mysteries, but how God's grace prepares and open's one's heart by grace for faith, love, and charity. How this happens would be interesting. I entrust it to your consideration for the glory of God.

  • BISHOP BARRON: *It's because God is a Trinitarian play of persons that we can be saved.* Not just outside of God begging for mercy but now, *through Grace, inside the dynamics of God's life, gathered by the Son into the power of the Holy Spirit.*

    • The three Persons in the Trinity refers to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Here, the Father refers to God the Father. The Son refers to the beloved Son of God, God incarnate - Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit is formless and everywhere. They are the three Persons in the Trinity.

  • Thank you Bishop Barron. At yesterday’s evening mass, a 29 yr old priest (can you believe?) used a similar example to explain the mystery of the Holy Trinity and your explanation this morning as I listened, has brought an explosion of light (understanding) to my little brain. Through the method of analogies, you have cleared that mystery! The mystery has been clarified!! THANK YOU!!! I pray for you, Bishop Barron!
