Sandman! Can’t wait!
I am 64 years old and an avid Elvis fan. I thought this movie was perfect. There was so much symbolism in the movie, especially in the carnival scene. Loved the The Nightmare Alley “ Easter egg. “Unless your an Elvis fan, I think certain things don’t connect. I liked catching the real Elvis in the split screen scenes. As an avid fan, I am glad they skipped over the movie career. I am pretty sure Elvis would have liked to skip it too. The colonel was a total character in real life and not in a good way. Why Elvis keep the colonel as a manager has been a debate for decades. Even when Elvis was alive, people wondered that. Some say he did not like confrontation. As long as there was money in the bank, he didn’t pay much attention to the details. Most think it was some misplayed loyalty. He did sky rocket Elvis from a truck driver living in the projects to the highest paid artist in just 2 years. Who knows why he keep the colonel? Elvis changed music forever, but he could be his own worst enemy. Only Elvis could have saved Elvis.
Saw this three times, once with family. Plenty weird about it and plenty to love.
you guys NEED to do a Pinocchio (2022) HT, that movie is built for it
How about the 1940 one?
I think it's cute that Lon thinks that's what a Dutch accent would sound like. I would definitely agree that there is a lot to mine from Orson Welles's life and both Cradle Will Rock and RKO 281 do a good job with small parts of his story. And yes, Dr. Nick is named after Dr. Nick who I believe was in the midst of losing his medical license around the time the Simpsons started.
After last week’s teaser, I’m here primarily to hear Lon’s impression of Tom Hanks’ impression of Colonel Tom Parker. Get well soon, Lon!
Thanks for getting "Wonderwall" stuck in my head guys. 🤦♀️
“My watch is gone!” < That made me spit on my iPad. (Grabs cleaning wipes) Worth it 😂
Preach, Spencer! I have never enjoyed a Baz Luhrmann movie either. I love classic literature, musicals, and Shakespeare - yet I didn’t like “Romeo and Juliet”, nearly walked out of “Moulin Rouge”, and had no desire to see “Gatsby” … BUT I loved “Elvis”? I told myself that the frenzied pace was intentional. It made you feel the chaos of a meteoric rise to fame … or of being surrounded by teenage girls mesmerized by a gyrating pelvis.
ooh sandman next? for once, i have at least an idea, usually i just stare blankly at the hints
That song ranks right up there with Tarantino's feet.
The Little Mermaid comparison was genius.
I want a Conan O'Brien biopic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Oh I am psyched as hell to see you do Sandman!
Best music biopic: Amadeus.
Definitely listen to the "Blank Check" podcast this week, they did the new "Pinocchio" and were saying a lot of the same! 😄
Dutch newspapers reported Priscilla Presley saw this movie and her reaction was: "That's Elvis!". So that confirms they at least got the most important part right. And whatever Tom Hanks did, it was not a Dutch accent. I'm Dutch, I know how most/a lot of us sound when speaking English (present company excluded, confirmed by multiple Brits). I said it before, and I'll say it again: Hollywood can't get the Netherlands right. Goldmember from Austin Powers: Not a Dutch accent. The whole scene of Spider-Man escaping jail in 'Far From Home': Not even close to what the Netherlands (and specifically Broek Op Langedijk) actually looks like. So for the record: Hollywood, if you need a consultant on how Dutch people sound, or what the country looks like, I'll do it for 0,1% of the box-office of the movie you need me to consult on, no up-fronts.
I have Dutch friends and the accent varies. Some have no accent and sound American. Others have light accents. When I was in the Netherlands, I heard a variety of accents depending on where I was at.
As an Australian I second Lon’s opinion that Jon has an excellent Australian accent. We don’t really have distinct regional accents, although I’ve only ever heard the up inflection IRL in Brisbane. A lot of soap opera actors (Neighbours, Home & Away, etc) do come from Queensland, so that might be why it’s thought a common feature. And there’s a slight nasal tone to some Hobart accents. Other than that it’s just Ocker (Paul Hogan’s probably the easiest recognised example ) and ‘normal’ Australian (eg. Hugh Jackman). May I recommend the series Rake, if you’d like more of the brilliant Richard Roxburgh?
I’m from West Virginia. Hell yeah
Honest trailer commentary for pitch meeting honest trailer?
Think of the truly iconic American images- Iwo Jima Flag Raising, 'Earthrise', Apollo 11's 'Small step', Moon flag salute, Pearl Harbor, 9/11, V-J Day 'kiss' or Japanese surrender on the Missouri, etc, etc... Finding out in a training meeting that the most popular, most requested, and most reproduced/purchased image from The National Archives is Nixon meeting Elvis, friggin' broke me. ...And then looking at the hundreds of drugged-to-the-gills proofs (Elvis not Dick) and realizing that photo was the only usable one, was pretty damn funny.
My favorite music biopic is the Guitar Hero episode of South Park.
I respect the reference to my home Perth. We do talk differently to Baz and the east coast in Australia. East coast can eat my west coast accent.
It’s mainly because our accent is more polished and we have the deadlier snakes, spiders and sharks. We have cute Quokkas too.
No one can win against our Quokkas.
I loved Heath Ledger's Perth accent.
I didn't know that the "My D***" song was a parody until y'all mentioned it.
Tom Hanks would be a great Nixon actually.
Show me you guys have a hunk, a, hunk, a burnin' love for me and do Ski School 1 and 2.
This is too funny to me as I have loved his other films mentioned, but I couldn't even finish this film it's such a mess. I don't think I'd have walked out in a theater, but I doubt I'll ever go back and finish the film while it competes with the internet. Great acting through, I can easily see how it's a guilty pleasure for Danielle.
Been an Elvis fan since I dire say the day I was born! What was written in the first part of video causes me to gag as well as the audio in the background now! Let's make. Hater are always going to be hater! But my mother has not into music but on the day Elvis dated (25 years before my perfect mother died) I remember none of my family wanted to look back other in the face for many, many days until we got over the saddest time of our collective lives! MONTHS!
You should do the Pinocchio honest trailer
An Eminem biopic, if done well… could actually be very compelling. 8 Mile is actually a pretty tamed story compared to Eminem’s actual life story
@Lon Tom Hanks didn't sound at all like Paul Verhoeven or like any kind of Dutch accent. I don't know what Tom Hanks did, but it wasn't close to a Dutch accent.
Is next week The Sandman?
please give us an honest trailer for Van Helsing
I don’t wanna be That Guy but responding to Lon - as excellent as EVG’s Aussie voice is for comedy purposes - it’s not like, a Great Aussie Accent 😂😂😂. It sounds like a Simpsons character. I’m a huge fan though. (I am Australian. This isn’t just someone pulling shit out of their ass)
Elvis is The Geek
Where is the commentary for Sandman?!?
Baz: Walk Hard II
Dumb question. Does the studio still exist? I just realized you're in your houses again, but it's possible you've been back there again for a while. I just know that you DID get back into the studio for at least a minute. Doesn't really matter to me as a viewer though. Just a curiousity.
Was just at home for this one because we had a sick panelist and didn't want them to not do the show! In studio for most stuff still but we'll use the at home in cases of sickness or if it's something low key like an AMA episode
I like how they're saying that Jons Australian accent was realistic, when to actual Australians, it sounded as bad as whatever Tom Hanks was doing
Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo
so next week is definitely A Nightmare on Elm Street right???????
I wish!
Sandman.
@@originalindigodingo ahhhh yes of course
bio pic: Bif Naked, starring ScarJo
Did y'all make a joke about how Forrest Gump taught Elvis to dance?
Michael jackson biopic, staring Gaga
UNRELIABLE NARRATOR. It's not a history film. He's like Odysseus - we are told up front that he's full of crap. I feel the shifty accent and make up are meant to communicate that we can't trust him - even though he's the person telling the story. Edit: He gets off on appearing a fraud AND getting one over on people anyway. That's the gamble, the risk, the rush. He tells us so repeatedly.
Tom Hanks was doing a Goldmember type voice……..not good and I love Hanks
No wonder I kept on thinking of Michael Caine saying, “There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures - and the Dutch!”
@@kstepko if only he would have said he “lovesss Goooooooollllllldddddd” and eat a couple of skin chips 😜
This movie makes me feel like it could get a best lead performance Oscar nomination and a worst supporting performance Razzie nomination…
parker sounds abit like richard dawson.
Um, no... What I remember from Great Balls of Fire is very clearly the underage cousin marriage
Needs more reminders to wear sunscreen....
Every body’s free to wear sunscreen.
Was he saying Chet Hayes or Hanks?
When Tom Hanks is good, he's amazing. When he's bad, it's so cringey and embarrassing.
The Little Mermaid 2022 movie will be terrible. The 2018 version was great.
Danielle liked this "movie". Of course she did.
Why wouldnt she? Its a great movie
@@kyriakoschrist Sure
I too love to watch bad movies ironically.
@@kstepko Even if that were the case in point here -Danielle said she just liked it, no so-bad-its-good remark-, well done you. Not so well done constructively, but well done all the same. Reverse movie-watching. Great use of one's time.
@@kstepko Iron ically Man. Bust movje even seen.
