  • Thanks for pointing out to the unaware, maybe new, cat parent, the many sneaky things cats can do to 1)hurt themselves and/or 2) destroy your stuff. And your many sneaky inventions to thwart their misdeeds. You know how to use the tape, as I do. One of my tips is to use poster putty (blu-tak) to keep things from being pushed off of surfaces. I put 2 or three tiny balls of the stuff on the bottoms of items and press them down onto the surface. Has spared me many a broken vase or knick-nack.

      @MeloCat@MeloCat Жыл бұрын
    • I love that too, it means love. It's not just their enjoyment, but also necessity for health, and both is very important. I have one recommendation for you , the new system of litter boxes, the wood pellets ( it is of *LIFE IMPORTANCE that it's kiln dried* ), in a double bottom litter box, first one is mesh holed so that the dissolved sawdust falls down into the collecting box. I watched on VICTORIAN GARDENS CATTERY channel, but there are tons more and with more tricks no doubt, cos cat people are smart and individual at solving problems. @@MeloCat

  • Genious, I love how cat people are sooo intelligent and creative, dexterous, you are best ! And having a heart for these sweethearts, feeling what they need, so many babies in a small apartment, instead of excuses - LOVE, love can solve so much problems. And best of all, your working cabinet is in their playground salon. Just what they want MOST, *your company* ; cats, above all, desire their human's ( guardian / parent / sibling / friend's ) company.

  • Our local IKEAs in Romania carry the sisal scratch wraps - about 20RON or $5 US. One tip: the velcro on them is near worthless, I use plastic wire zip ties (available at any hardware/home improvement store in the electrical section) to attach them to table legs. Also, with some scrap lumber and a staple gun, you can make your own really creative scratch toys with them! Another tip for apartment dwellers: Here in Bucharest most windows are the style that either swing open, or tilt inwards about 20-30 degrees. While tilted inwards, my cats love to lounge around on the top of the window frame. To prevent them from falling out the top, I picked up a 110mm PVC drain pipe, cut it to length, and lay it across the top to block the gap where a cat could fall thru. I'm probably not explaining it very well, but imagine a V with an O on top of it (that probably doesn't help much either LOL) And the best way I've found to secure window screens is to screw in eyelets. One in each corner of the screen frame and a corresponding one on the window frame, then you can use any of a variety of devices to keep the screen closed and safe. Your local hardware store will have tons of options for $1-2 or less.

  • I love what you did to keep your cats happy and entertained! My recommendation when it comes to functional furniture is the Ivar shelf from Ikea because it comes in multiple heights and is so adjustable with crates as cat houses, curtains or sisal rope wrapped around the side parts. Mine love to climb all the way to the top and just chill up there. (Edit) Regarding toilets: I use huge, deep stainless steel food containers that you use in catering. From my experience the urin doesn't eat itself into the material like it does with plastic. Downside, they don't come with hoods/lids like the plastic ones.

    • Good stuff! just make sure it's secured to the wall so it doesnt fall over, maybe cut some holes for cats to go thru for the shelfs, bam! for the stainless steel pans, I'm curious how the cats react when the paw the stainless steel w claws?

      @MeloCat@MeloCat2 жыл бұрын
    • Since the highest Ivar is around 2,20 m high it always has to be secured to the wall, even without cats in the house 😁I build mine like a staircase so they mostly use the top, but one can adjust the boards in an irregular way you don't even have to cut any holes 👍 For the pans: they don't care at all And it's always filled to at least 10-15cm.

  • This was me... when I was 16 that is. I had a big- and I mean BIG cat as a pet and I wasn't allowed to let it out of my room when I wasn't home. so I invented many places for him to hide, climb and play in- even though my room was about 300cm x 400cm in size XD Loved the cat, but that was no way to live- for him or me... so I had to give him to a family that had way more room for him and now when I look back, I am proud of accepting such a hard choice. • @@MeloCat I really wish I could do the things that you have done for your cats! But I'm not so sure now days of ever being able to have cats at all and well my moms allergic to them so I wouldn't want that to keep her from visiting me. She would probably still visit, but couldn't stay for long and be comfortable. :( She adores cats and many other animals like dogs, but I feel saddened, given that she has allergies to so many of them... Probably the only way I could have a cat is if was an outdoor cat and I lived some where that it would be more okay to let them roam outside? I'd probably get some sort of tracking collar or something so that I would know they safe at least... Life is a lil unfair sometimes lol

      @ArisuOkami@ArisuOkami2 жыл бұрын
    • Outdoor cats live a lot shorter as they often get hurt or killed outside.... so it really depends ..... I was so allergic to cats too, they are my number one allergen... look at me now

      @MeloCat@MeloCat2 жыл бұрын
    • @@MeloCat yeah, I've heard of allergies going away for your own pets, but as my mother doesn't live with me, I don't see her ever getting rid of the allergies she has if I had a cat. I know that cats that live outdoors can easily get hurt on their own, but so far my bf parents cat has lived to 12years of age, without any issues and tbh if he was suddenly kept as a household cat, he would become depressed. He is sweet and loving cat, but he rather roam free and come home whenever. In my case I'd want an outdoor cat as I plan to have ducks/chicken and their feed may attract rodents or other pests so a cat would help keeping them at bay or at least lower their numbers.

  • A good tip for keeping cats away from cords is to use soap or dishwasher on them. Or even hand cream. Cover the cord, they will taste the soap, and that's it. Same with cats who like to eat bags...

  • This is so epic! I've been looking for ideas, and scored on this video! I was thinking of going to ikea today, but now I'm for sure going. Sometimes, I actually order certain products to be delivered because I know it's coming in a large box that I can add to my cat room. It's always cute when I first take the box into the cat room, they all rush it and play in it. I can't wait to use some of these ideas you have here.

    • Hey I'mg glad this is useful to you. In fact I am making an elaborated video on this one to further some details. But just in case I didn't stress enough.... Make sure things are really secured onto the walls and add more L brackets and deep screws into the walls to withstand their weight as constant bounding up and down those shelves really wears it out. The more cats the more frequent the check up too (for anything wiggling)~ Meow~ Stay safe~

  • Hi, I really love what you've done for your cats. Do you have 9 cats? I have 2, but they are only kittens coming on for 4 months old. I have a small flat/apartment 1 bedroom too. I'm hoping that because you've managed what you have for your 9 cats, I can manage for my 2 cats quite a bit of this. I don't know if I'll let them take over my flat quite as much, but I can see why you have because you've quite a few cats more than I have & you need to keep them all happy and give them their individual spaces. I can see that you've really considered the happiness of your cats first and foremost, though I'm sure they all make you very happy in return. Now that my kittens are turning 4 months old, I'm noticing they are having quite a bit of jump and one of my kittens especially is looking up high and meowing so she must now want to go higher. I am now starting to put things up on the walls and on my living room window to give them a view of the outside. Only one thing that I will say scared me with your video - the view from your bedroom window. Sooooo high!!, how many floors high are you? And the kitchen window scared me, but I am glad that your cats are safe and well. I live in Scotland btw, and we do have Ikea here too but I'm unsure if those scratching things for desk legs are there. I will need to keep an eye out, thanks very much.

  • The cats prefer the litterbox with no cover because the other ones with a cover on top make the cats feel trapped inside (and without knowing who's waiting for them outside) and because the fatc the litterbox is covered it will smell less for us humans on the outside but it will smell more for the cats inside. I never had a covered litterbox and will never have. It's not even good for an easy and regular clean up and not good to see if it needs to be cleanned. My cats eat good (and unfortunelly expensive) food and have open litterboxes with the cheapest and most commun sand (not that cheap now that everything comes from Ukraine, even the sand I guess). A thing I would say every cats' lovers should buy is a water dispenser with fountain. Cats prefer drinking running water and not stagnant water and therefore will drink more water and will have less health problems related with that. There are water dispensers with fountain very cheap and any cat lover will be glad with the result.

  • I just discovered you and love your videos Mellocat. Thanks for sharing. I love how you’ve turned your house into a home for them. I was wondering if you own your home or rent? And if there are any restrictions on how many animals you can have where you live. Where I am I need a permit to own even 3 cats (which I do) and I want to take in my sisters two since she’s had to leave her home and move into a bus to travel to find work, rendering her practically homeless. 😔 With the introductions are they ever rocky? I feel I got lucky introducing my two to the new one after seeing some things about how you’re meant to introduce them and all the things that can go wrong if you don’t do it slowly and gently enough. Maybe you have a video on it and I have to just keep binging your channel. :-) all my admiration from 🇦🇺
