Raid ad aside, the description of that "perfect day" for the Astartes was magnificent as your drama segments always are. The music added to the effect of such a powerful image and lamentation of glories long lost, but still so beautiful as to continue to inspire thousands of years hence. It is very easy to imagine these words coming from a Dreadnought or Bjorn the Fell-Handed himself.

I often wonder - are the space marines of today the same as the ones of the Heresy era? I don't mean literally, except in the case of those traitors whose lives have been unnaturally extended by the ruinous powers, or the primaris, that case is obvious. I mean that the space marines of the Heresy era seemed to be more... human? They laughed more, they grew quicker to anger, their countenance was more the warrior and less the monk. Were the hypnodoctrination procedures post-heresy made more severe, more restrictive, than they had been before? A reasonable precaution, one might think. Or is it merely a reflection in the change of the culture from the Legions to the Chapters?

An interesting point. The first thing that sprang to mind on thinking about it, was how one of the writers (Phil Kelly, maybe?) said on the GW Voxcast that, with regard to Space Marines, the 30k era was about fathers and sons whilst the 40k era is about brothers. So extrapolating that idea, perhaps we can think of the SMs being boys with their dads in the past, but they lost their dads and had to become the grown-ups themselves. An over-simplification, of course, but perhaps it's the right sort of dynamic at play?

But living for 1 thousand years in the imperiums current state is quite the feat so of course its a big deal even if Dante wasn't a blood angel. traitor marines don't have to put up with constant chaos incurrsions xenos invasion (barring the occasional ork warband because me green and must fight everything)

One of the great tragedies of the setting is that not enough of the books are from a baseline human perspective, for so much of the more powerful beings in the setting are made that much more spectacular when you’re seeing it from the view of guardsman joe who’s greatest achievement is scoring high on the athletics test to join the guard, than from the space marine captain whose multi-century crusade against the darkness has meant he is no longer impressed when something rips open a tank.

Something I learned as a NCO in the Army, the first step is always the hardest. You can tell soldiers all day to enroll in college, won't happen. Give them a ride to the office and they do the rest. You have all the talent, you just need that first step getting in the door and you'll shine

Raid ad aside, the description of that "perfect day" for the Astartes was magnificent as your drama segments always are. The music added to the effect of such a powerful image and lamentation of glories long lost, but still so beautiful as to continue to inspire thousands of years hence. It is very easy to imagine these words coming from a Dreadnought or Bjorn the Fell-Handed himself.

I often wonder - are the space marines of today the same as the ones of the Heresy era? I don't mean literally, except in the case of those traitors whose lives have been unnaturally extended by the ruinous powers, or the primaris, that case is obvious. I mean that the space marines of the Heresy era seemed to be more... human? They laughed more, they grew quicker to anger, their countenance was more the warrior and less the monk. Were the hypnodoctrination procedures post-heresy made more severe, more restrictive, than they had been before? A reasonable precaution, one might think. Or is it merely a reflection in the change of the culture from the Legions to the Chapters?
An interesting point. The first thing that sprang to mind on thinking about it, was how one of the writers (Phil Kelly, maybe?) said on the GW Voxcast that, with regard to Space Marines, the 30k era was about fathers and sons whilst the 40k era is about brothers. So extrapolating that idea, perhaps we can think of the SMs being boys with their dads in the past, but they lost their dads and had to become the grown-ups themselves. An over-simplification, of course, but perhaps it's the right sort of dynamic at play?
The hypno therapy was still pretty severe even back then on terra especially with legions like the word bearer who was taught to hate their bloodline’s heritage and extreme loyalty to the emperor for he saved them this is before lorgar mind you, I think it’s more of the fact that the primarchs walked amongst them that made them more human

@Lord Admiral Spire I don't think that's true, otherwise the lore probably wouldn't make a big deal about Blood Angels being the longest-living Astartes, and they live to about 1000.
@@WizardJim depending on who you read space marines live for a few thousand years or are immune to ageing. But living for 1 thousand years in the imperiums current state is quite the feat so of course its a big deal even if Dante wasn't a blood angel. traitor marines don't have to put up with constant chaos incurrsions xenos invasion (barring the occasional ork warband because me green and must fight everything)

I played in the late 90s and into the new century. I even made the trip to Games Day in 2000. Having kids saw me loose my passion for painting and crushing the hoards of Chaos with my Blood Angles. One of the great tragedies of the setting is that not enough of the books are from a baseline human perspective, for so much of the more powerful beings in the setting are made that much more spectacular when you’re seeing it from the view of guardsman joe who’s greatest achievement is scoring high on the athletics test to join the guard, than from the space marine captain whose multi-century crusade against the darkness has meant he is no longer impressed when something rips open a tank.

Something I learned as a NCO in the Army, the first step is always the hardest. You can tell soldiers all day to enroll in college, won't happen. Give them a ride to the office and they do the rest. You have all the talent, you just need that first step getting in the door and you'll shine
