  • Not to hate, but you literally took the most cliché things about Vienna - none of these tourist attractions makes it the most liveable cities in the world. With just a little research you could've found out that quality of Life comes from affordable housing, a good health system, great public transport, accessible leisure activities, ... unfortunately none of this was covered in your report - which feels more like a tourist guide than an actual report?! :/

  • What you might not notice during a quick visit to the city is the security. No slums, no groups fighting each other, even if there are many areas where people live who are not Austrian citizens. Everyone lives peacefully together. You can also walk through the streets in the evening and use public transport without any worries. Every apartment gets drinking water from the tap. All of this certainly counts when it comes to assessing which city is the most livable.

  • I'm very fortunate, in that my mom was born and raised in neighbouring Slovakia, in a town just a little over an hours drive from Vienna, so I've gotten to experience the city countless times OVER the years, and routinely cite it was being my favourite for a bevy of reasons. I myself was born and raised (and am currently living) in a major North American city, however my yearning to someday call the Austrian capital my home remains. It really is a special place, and that's especially highlighted after you've travelled to several other EU-cities, and even more-so after spending decades in culturally flaccid North America.

However, as someone who has lived there for 6 years, I can also say, I've never had better friends anywhere else. So while it can be hard to make friends there, once you've made it past the initial reservation, you'll have some true friends.

I've lived in Madrid for about 4 years and the public transport is amazing, as well as the nightlife, food, museums, amazing parks. It's also relatively affordable compared to other major European cities. And curiously there's also a huge park in Madrid with a Ferris wheel where the royalty used to go to hunt as well. • As a Viennese living abroad, I`ve always wondered how this can be rated most liveable (big) city in the world. I guess they don`t factor in the bad weather, the extremely rude population and the corruption in this town. In all fairness, it was also rated 2nd most unfriendly city in the world, just after Paris, so that`s quite accurate. lol.

  • Vienna is an extremely livable city, for sure. However, I think the city itself is almost too much like an open museum. The palaces of the Hofburg, impressive though they are, remind you of a glorious past that is, well, past. Vienna has shrunk so much in terms of population that it feels outsized.The city also gets oppressively hot in the summer, and the lack of a river-the sunken Danube canal doesn't quite feel like a river-is really noticeable. I guess you can escape the city for the surrounding hills, that is true. In any case, you should take my opinion with a grain of salt, since it's partially subjective. More than anything, I just don't find the 'Schönbrunn' aesthetic and architecture very appealing. And, of course, nothing can come close to a spring walk over the Graben or down the Mariahilferstraße.

  • What no one ever mentions is that Vienna is a quite expensive city, housing is relatively cheap for a capitol and city of this size, but it got a lot more expensive in recent years and if you look for apartments to rent on the private market it is not cheap at all. Also going out for food, coffee, cultural things or whatever is actually really expensive. Grocerie shopping is (compared to germany) not cheap. When people say vienna is the most livable city I think that refers to people who can effort it to live a good live here....

    • While the cost of a lot of things is higher than it would be in some other places, It's worth some perspective on just how much of a difference housing and transportation make. I've used a cab exactly twice in the 4 years i've lived here, and I spend 380 a month for my room in a flatshare. My overall living expenses are around 1000 euro a month, and they'd be a fair bit lower if not for the fact I'm in therapy right now. I can't really think of any US city where I'd be able to do this in, and rental prices are prettty damn bonkers in neighboring germany (at least where people want to live). And all of this to live in a city with a population of 2 million, a world class mass transit network, great museums and theatres etc.

    • But your student room is not real life. You pay an average rent of 800 euros. + 100 euros for district heating + electricity. Have fun after your studies. You need to find a good job in Vienna. Everything is underpaid, even with a degree.

    • But you are ignoring the fact, that rents everywhere (also in all german cities) got way more expensive in recent years...yeah going out is expensive, like everywhere, but vienna also supports a lot of cheap locations, so use them. true grocceries are a bit more expensive then in germany. It's a bit hypocritical to blame vienna for that, as it is a big problem nearly everywhere at the moment (every big city is expensive...) and it still has one of the lowest housing prices and lowest transportation costs.

  • Vienna sure is great. But I don't buy these city rankings. They only focus on the big, famous cities. Imo most of these, including Vienna, are much too big to be really livable. Austria for instance has Graz, too. Good deal of culture and architecture, and at less than 300.000 people it's much easier to get out of town and enjoy nature for a change. And nearby in Germany is Passau, wich is just drop-dead gorgeous, as towns go.

  • Talking about Hapsburg, I wonder whether the Austrians feel guilt towards their neighbour Hungary, who could have been independent after the Ottomans left. I just watched the video about Hungary's attraction. I believe Hungary could prosper better economically and socially without much occcupation

  • Sorry the Viennese are extremely rude, the coffee isnt all that great-sure its got all the tourist places like in this video outside of Vienna is more interesting, the nature, Tirol, Salzburg, Baden. If you go to some of the districts outside the first the streets are cold, ghetto, and the lack of trees. Only if you do get to get through the wall of buildings do you get a nice garden.

  • I've been in Vienna about a year ago, and was not disappointed! Actually, only by this Vienna coffee 😂 It is a lot expensive, I can not remember, maybe about 30-50 % more than regular cappucino, and it is pretty much the same! Don't waste money on it. Everything else was perfect. P.S. Or maybe it was the case in the coffee shop where I was 😏

    @Boka387@Boka3877 ай бұрын
    • Vienna coffee contains chocolate and whipped cream so it's definitely not a cappuccino.

      7 ай бұрын
    • @ I'm sure, although I didn't taste the chocolate flavor 😄 Basically I'm just saying that the price difference between it and cappuccino is not worth it, but I also say that maybe it was the case in that particular cafe, after that I didn't want to risk it anymore.
