In this episode, I am going to discuss rumination. Rumination is a very common compulsion and in order to recover from OCD & Anxiety it must be removed in order to effectively engage in ERP. Enjoy the show.

  • I’ve been going to a therapist for 3 years and she diagnosed me with OCD but never explained why I was diagnosed and/or even shared resources with me on how to overcome OCD. Thank you!

  • Learning to embrace any thought or feeling as opposed to ruminiation which says you must feel this and must never feel that.

  • This has been super helpful lately. Two weeks ago self harm intrusive thoughts begun for me. Everyday I have been wanting to go to the ER and I was now given medication and mindfulness therapy. Your videos have been a blessing and I am slowly learning to fight this fight without the actual fighting but to coexist.

  • Great insight Matt. I’m the king of rumination.. not really but it sure feels like it. I’ve been using the triple A response for about 8 weeks and I’ve been ruminating A LOT less. And Not because i’m trying NOT to ruminate. It’s more like a really good side effect of doing the work.

  • Hi Matt ,i have a question , So when we feel or get such thoughts ( because almost feeling immediately comes up ) , if we allow it , to increase anxiety etc ok. but how to deal with content of thoughts . I simply cant take them at face value , they are so distresisng especially god related bad and sexual intrusive thiughts , it is just unbearable. If I recall I know when they started initially they were like a small hand sized snow thrown at me , would have neglected instead of resistence , but over the time with suffering and compulsions and stickiness , it has become SNOWBALL , cant just handle now ball thrown at me. What should be the straergy and how to approach the ACT ERP.

  • Nice videos, I've got a question: Is the same to feel the anxiety & fear coming from the irrational belief that feeling fear can make me believe anything is scary? I mean, if a thought causes anxiety or fear, it tends to create more fear and anxiety, feeling those emotions alone seems to be easier than feeling them in combination with the thoughts that produce them, because if we allow both to be there, even if we don't engage ruminating or fighting against the thoughts, they keep poping out and create more fear & anxiety, so it's ok to feel those emotions even if thougths keep coming and increasing the fear and anxiety cycle?

    • Hi , Exactly I do feel same . I do feel more negative or irritated when I allow thoughts ( I should say not just thoughts , they are feelings as well ) . It hampers my work , I feel stressed , I feel more sad . Rather I choose to disregard the thoughts as soon as they pop up like attaching a precursor ( prefix) stating they are false and OCD thoughts. By practise it mostly feels automatic . But yes still I have some problems remaining but that method makes me keep going like ball is rolling and not stuck ( especially with rumination ) . I am happy that I am able to keep going but also bit explorative to eliminate the hustle of OCD . So I am also confused .
