Review: 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid AWD

2024 ж. 23 Мам.

I spend a week with this 2020 Ford Escape Hybrid in its Titanium trim with the Premium package. With an as-tested price of about $39,000, this fully-loaded Escape is a mixed bag. There's many areas where the Escape is the nicest among its hybrid mid-size SUV competitors, but in other areas the Escape comes up a bit short, like in its acceleration and overall refinement. Still, with some of the best fuel economy in the compact SUV segment, the Escape can be an appealing option for those that don't like the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid or Honda CR-V Hybrid. What do you think of the 2020 Escape? Thanks to Ford for providing this vehicle to review.

  • It’s roomier then most the competition, has all the features you could want and big discounts so you get a great deal. People need to stop complaining. Plus it looks better in person. And remember there is the baby bronco if you want a rugged looking cuv.

  • Am trying for years to buy a 2010-12 Ford Escape Limited with Navigation package. Love the audio system with screen. Even plays DVDs. That's what I love about the slightly older cars. You have a full functioning CD player. Plus with the Hybrid you have a real wall outlet socked in the center console. Which let's you use your Escape like a generators. Which could someday safe your life.

  • I had a 2020 Titanium 2.0 with the Standard 19" Rims, and then went into the 2022 SEL Hybrid (made me an offer I couldn't refuse) with the 18" Rims and taller side wall tire and the road noise I was used to in the Titanium is GONE. I think with a car this small you don't need any larger than 18" Rims. Also Matt is so right about the acceleration in this thing, I don't want a 0-60 Dragster like the 2.0 and I am perfectly happy with the Torque wave this Hybrid has, gets up to speed quick, 12-15 more MPG's and using Regular Fuel now!

  • Surprised you found it noisy. I test drove the Escape and the Rav4 and found that they were pretty similar in road noise, but the engine in the Rav4 was much louder. I agree that the Escape handles better - it feels much lighter and more connected to the road than the Rav4. OTOH, the Rav4 had more room in back and seem to have a (slightly) better grade of plastic inside.

You'll miss a few things you can get in the Titanium (like heated steering wheel, heads-up display) but it's around $6K less in price.

  • nice review. first thoughts of mine after having started to see these in parking lots is they are refreshingly simple and clean. that front end is soooo anti-korean. even that "manly" rav4! porsche, yes, but with less aggressive lover grill. time favors the simplistic, clean designs. dumb placement of the start button!!!! THANK YOU FOR BRINGING UP VIEW!!!!!! My big complaint with my 13 (before it was stolen) was the in-turn of the A pillor causung a pinching look, a narrowing of my view along the lower front windshield. sounds like they never addressed this. to bad. its a deal-breaker for me. i need those corner site lines. and your driving parts...ya, convinced me to wait til they fix these. i mean, the whole thing is torque. isn't that what the electric part is supposed to help???????

  • I don’t think the Escape is a bad car, but when Mazda can create a compact CUV with what are widely regarded as the best driving dynamics and interior in this class on their own with a small fraction of the budgetary and engineering resources Ford has, I’m particularly disappointed and unimpressed by the Escape and its shortcomings. Ford can do better than this and I’m sure they know it. Hopefully Ford can get things together with a mid cycle refresh. That being said, though, if you held a gun to my head and I HAD to have an Escape, I’d definitely get the hybrid model.

    • Did yours last like 300k like most of the taxis did? I saw tons with 300k+ miles. Im curious if this one will be similar. Personally i have been in 2 fords(family was ford biased growing up) and i owned a ford personally. I got rid of mine after a year because i hated it. All three of the fords were very cheaply made. The expedition, loud, interior was terrible for the price, engine had issues. The mustang, convertable roof leaked even after a new one was put on, paint chipped easily, the leather seats didnt even hold up after 6 years and the battery constantly was dieing. The focus, where to start, the transmission was horrible, wasnt comfortable, extremely loud, poor handling for a very small car. So... now my wife and i own 2 subarus and a toyota. Once one dies ill easily consider a kia or mazda as my next car. Subaru is just getting behind on their engines/efficience, and toyota literally is the least enthusiastic brand you could get, they are so boring now and subaru really isnt any better than toyota in that regard.

  • I really wanted to like this to replace my Ford Fusion Hybrid. After seeing it in person and test driving it, the only thing I didn't like is the interior styling. To me it looks cheap and disjointed, especially the fake plastic wood trim and the center stack. And since I'd be seeing the interior a lot, I had to pass. The best looking part of the interior is you driving it.

Other than it is a good car but for the price wtffff Prefer Rav Hyb or Crv hyb why sit low in a suv thats the reason you buy it...also the heads up display is bleh, I had that in my 2010 prius and it was better.

  • Ford's recent SUVs are so disappointing. I own a 2017 F150 Limited and my wife has a 1 year old Fusion AWD Titanium, we are a Ford family. However, the new Explorer, the refreshed Edge and this awful new Escape just fall short everywhere. I would not consider for a moment getting rid of our Fusion for a new Escape. Can't even get ventilated seats at any price in Escape and our Fusion has it. The interior, which is 6 years newer in design, looks no better and maybe cheaper. The fusion has some knee padding on the console, this has none. Its so low rent, and for nearly 40k. Also, Ford has been cutting back on incentives so actual transaction prices are closer to msrp. This makes me not want to consider the bronco sport as well, which will have largely the same interior.
