They just took down the PC version of the Crew. It already shut down servers needed to play, but they now took down the ability to redownload it if somebody makes a crack for it. For a copy you own legit on Uplay. Ridiculous.
I was able to buy it for $58 from Green Man Gaming with my gold account and a voucher. I'll buy dlc after it's all released and only if it's worth it. Aint no way I'm paying ubi anything over $60!
Yeah I'm just gonna hard pass like I do anything ubisoft anymore. It's all repetitive drivel anyway, the higher ups telling me to get used to not owning my games was icing on the cake.

The thing that's incredibly frustrating about The Crew is that it CAN be played offline but Ubisoft opted to scrap it entirely, rather than patch it to make it playable offline

That Ratts Tyerell reference was amazing, and the fact that I knew exactly who that was and what the scene was while listening to the audio hit home with just how much of a nerd I am. 10/10 would nerd again. Also, Jacob is a gem and I need more of him in my life.
Want "modern" Star Wars? Just buy the Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster, Nightdive did an amazing job at modernizing it while maintaining the old charm.
Jacob has been one of my favorites since day one on "that other previous place" and guys, please, keep him around. He is so jovial, entertaining, and overall a great guy. I love him to death and please protect him at all costs. Great addition to the team!

@@Droop-e They shut down the servers, and removed the game from people's UPlay libraries. Servers shutting down is pretty common, but for a game like this, it's expected that they would have released a patch to make it playable offline.

To me all this ties into the 'day 1 purchase' mentality. Im hopeful about a game coming out, but since i dont plan to prepurchase/buy day 1, ill watch a bit of a stream, and read/watch some reviews, then buy it or not. Fairly easy
Exactly, if more people did this it would straighten the industry out almost overnight. Sadly for every reasonable person there are thousands of idiots already having pre-ordered the most expensive edition to only forget to play it for a few weeks.

I think companies do NOT want close examination of the legality of bricking a game you paid for with no recourse and rather we just go the boiling frog route, so we're trying to raise as much hell as possible to get international authorities to look at it. I can't say how it will turn out, but I think we're going to get clear answers either way.

I also got that same edition with the statue and I was troubled over spending that much money back in 2012 when I bought it…although I found plenty of excuses to salve my conscience with…lol Nowadays they ask for $100 plus dollars as if it’s chump change and you get nothing but digital pdf art etc?

There are justified reasons for all that hate. Especially when it's about Ubisoft.
It's the internet though. I don't know most of the people who post. I'm pretty cautious about what is being promoted or hated. So I tend not to jump to conclusions. Maybe everyone should be cautious too and not allow themselves to be manipulate by mass hate or love. I'm going to see how this game turns out before I make judgment calls.

They charge a lot because they have a lot of employees. And then no one buys the game and they lay off a bunch of people. I thought we're over that meta in 2023
The majority of Single-Player games released on a disc are fully playable offline and also able to be installed offline with all the base game content. Most of the time when you can't install and play a game offline, it'll have a label saying so on the front of the game case. Games like Star Wars Outlaws are an exception, however the recent Avatar Frontiers of Pandora game also wasn't able to be installed offline. Seems like Ubisoft is trying to get to the point where you have to have a digital copy of their games even if they're Single-Player games. Star Wars Jedi Survivor and Hogwarts Legacy were also the big notable exceptions last year of Single-Player games you couldn't install offline.
And that's why you don't enable greedy companies to keep doing this. Stop buying their games so either they'll change or go out of business.

Just to point out what Lawrence said that some people may expect an online only game to shut down eventually, which might be true but doesn't make it any better. Why is it the case that we have to expect that a game we paid for will eventually be rendered completely unplayable. I mean, it's not even about the money, The Crew came out 1000 years ago so personally I don't care about the $15 I spent on it on a sale. The real problem is that the entire experience is just gone now, erased. For some people it may have been their favourite game, or at least one of their favourite games. I didn't love The Crew but I enjoyed it, it did have a pretty excellent recreation of the USA people could drive across. The real loss is an artistic one, whatever you may think of the game itself it still had artistic value. Destroying games because they aren't popular anymore is something I can't get behind, even if these days people "expect" it to happen.
I recently got star wars jedi survivor for $37 Canadian. It's not even a year old. Just buy games used. Something about not paying full price just makes it seem magical like I'm a kid again.

The only Star Wars game I want to play is one set in the Old Republic. The Star Wars Cinematic Universe has been played out, mainly because any new jedi/sith conflicts seem forced because the other movies have already killed all the other jedi and sith. With an Old Republic game, they would have much more creative freedom to make an interesting story with some high stakes. These cinematic universe games that they fit in between movies on the timeline have to be low stakes by nature.
It's always a delight to see Jacob discussing anything Star Wars related. Hopefully we'll see him again on IG in the future!
Bruce and Lawrence are hands down some of the most amazing people that I watch never meant them a day in my life but I look forward everyday to their content and them bring it on Jacob was fucking hilarious his deliveries and mannerisms were perfect especially every time he hit a little bit of general Kenobi priceless.
