they should add a recording of the stand in the future and issue penalty if a problem does arise or else the problem will continue to happen. Delete the recording after the whole tournament if nothing occur. I don't get why a person (even if its a child) isn't escorted out after doing it more than once as if its some type of tiktok challenge =/ The ban can be enforced onto the parent too. Q did no one went to tell the parent that his/her son was using flashlight "intentionally" on the phone...??
Why doesn't security remove the flashlight people? It wasn't even a photo, it was flashlight on. What horrible hosts.
BWF things lol
The flashlight is on a phone, no? You can't expect security to remove ALL phones with a light. They announced, " Please, no flashlights/camera flashes." many times. It's down to the public to be more careful, I don't think the venue could have done much more. If they do it again, then tell them to leave, but I don't think this happened?
@@curnowbascombe5400 reports seem to indicate this was a repeat offender What I'm saying is it's not a photography flash. The light remained ON, indicating it's the use of the flashlight feature, not merely taking a photo with a quick flash.
@@curnowbascombe5400 o please... u dont even know we in pakistan the people are not allowed to bring their phones while watching live cricket matches. In this kind of situation, security should sumbit all phones and when one needs to make a call or receibe he must go to secueity room within the match times ans then get their phones back once the matches are over. Simple and can be managed by the venue administration😊
Ironic that it happens in Britain. Remember when Tom Daley was allowed to retake his botched dive during the 10m men diving final at the 2012 London Olympics because he complained of "flash distraction"? He ended up stealing the bronze!
That damn flashlighting person should be escorted outside
Sure
absolutely
That person must be fined and banned from all bwf events .
BWF HALLO22 HALLU22 ...dont silent ..🤭💔😭
Marin was attacked several times by someone leaving the red light on during a rally, surely deliberate. The people who do this have very sick minds, sore losers.
Nishimoto's over rule was pathetic. Such umpires should be fined for being stupid and dumb. Only then BWF umpires will start taking their jobs seriously. And yes what happened with Tunjung was unfortunate. There was clear proof that there was a huge flash. I hope the kid who used the flash and his irresponsible parents would always remember this
Instead of blaming the umpires, There should be a var system for these kind of mistakes and players should be given permission to appeal on these.
@@ramjai2007 Por qué no los dos?
Flash light during such level of badminton is strictly prohibited. The organiser must be proactive to stop this. The players should not be penalised for the flash light that disturb the player's concentration.

With the current technology, should just introduce instant replay, and allow player/coach to challenge the umpire's decision.
imagine we all see what should be the correct call for a netplay but still umpire call cant be changed, that's frustrating . Also challenge should not be instant because player should ask the partner player if they will challenge even Gill commented this to WD finals.
Agree, especially so many wrong judgement kill player's heart
No sport makes full use of technology because that would stop them from fixing matches and profit from the controversy (free advertisement) when things like this happens. Remember, it's a business first, sport second.

These athletes have been honing their reflexes and reaction time to the point that a single flashlight is enough to disturb their focused state. Those who say they're overreacting are people who hasn't done anything that requires focus. Even when you are talking and someone suddenly interrupts, aside from getting annoyed you sometimes forget what you were going to talk about and it's pretty frustrating really.

Don't worry, the police will look into this case 15 years later after they are done convicting the local town drunk for writing "inappropriate speech" on his Instagram and Facebook accounts.
This year's all England is just pure pathetic.
Lots of issues with bad umpire calls and flash photography in the crowd interrupting the usual high standard of badminton.
So many bad umpire decisions and line calls. Some of them are too old on the jobs.Bad visions contributory, too. Get younger officials and not those over 55 years old or retirees.be selective when choosing umpires and line judges. I observe All England Championship is alway marred by bad or unfair decisions to the chagrin of players.

Crazy hey. It wasn't even remotely obstructing the play.
He was not even close to net😢😂😂
Similar thing happened with Christie. I've never seen a volleyball block like that got disallowed.
Exactly, it was clearly a legal block. Ginting was fully able to play a legal stroke.
Umpire was 100% racist.
Change the standards of umpiring/officiating in BWF. Tired of seeing umpires rudely shrugging their shoulders and ordering players on court/shut-up and play.
Agree. I think the umpires themselves don’t even understand/know rhe rules.
Too dictatorial or rather throwing their weight around as umpires. Be reasonable and consider appeals made on legitimate grounds.

1) Use hawk eye to assist match Referee in this decision. 2) Players can have 1 or 2 reviews per game and Referee themselves unlimited. 2) As long as the racquet does not touch the net or crosses the net it should not be construed as an obstruction. The Referees may refer to the slow motion replays or hawk eye. 3) Any person in crowd uses flash light or other forms of nuisance to the players or the match should be evicted and the players should be allowed to replay the point (upon referee reviewing that the disturbance interfered with the player)
1) Hawk-eyes use-fullness in this is questionable, but use of slow speed cameras at the net. 2) These could be good, but they have downsides. They would allow more time wasting as they could be used in situations that don’t really need it in order to get a break, break opponent flow etc. The BWF is working hard to speed games up and this would probably go against it. Also these are still rare and very rarely determine a match. Take into account the number of matches at the All England for example. 2) The rules could be made clearer but that doesn’t mean that umpire’s are unfair or incompetent. They have a split second to make a decision, most people couldn’t do the job. The rules allow for you to finish your swing on the other side of the court if the contact is on your own side, but obstructing this movement or making it harder is a fault. Although generally it shouldn’t be called in my opinion if the rackets don’t make contact. 3) Replaying the point isn’t always a good idea. There could be people in who are paid to disturb the match in favour of a player etc. Also evicting viewers can bring a lot of bad press on you. Should we then ban drums or shouting when smashing etc. since they could disturb some players even when used during breaks or maybe just ban viewers all together from the venue only having livestreams as an option. Having referees review events could also take significant amounts of time and isn’t in most cases realistic. Rules cannot be written too specific and will always require interpretation. Which gets more consistent over time and training which happens at all tournaments. At the beginning, during and end to some extent. The thing people really need to remember that umpires, players and the BWF all want to see the sport succeed and grow. But saying umpires should be fined or fired because they made a mistake is very harmful for the sport. Umpires are people too and make mistakes and in many cases learn from them. But in a match it isn’t possible to allow all decisions to be questioned, changed or otherwise reviewed because there needs to be some control (as unfair it sometimes seems) of the situations and there are time constraints. Matches can’t last for hours because of debate about rules, calls etc. That kind of attitude creates a versus atmosphere and makes progress or change very hard.
1) The Nishimoto block. Completely ridiculous. He was so far back from the net and you’re allowed to make reasonable movements and preparations to receive the shot. The referee is just being absurd. 2) The Ginting kill. Looks like they missed a net touch, but realistically no human eye in real time will be able to discern whether the shuttle is a millimetre either one side or the other of the net. Unless some sort of net-call technology is introduced into the head of the shuttlecock (which I don’t think will be cost feasible) I can’t see this resolved easily. Maybe a benefit of doubt system favouring the referee but ruling out obvious errors and missed net touches. 3) The Flashlight. Oof. Clearly Tanjung shouldn’t have stopped midpoint - you have to halt before the point begins, unless there’s a catastrophic interruption of course which the referee calls let for. The main issue is having enough stewards to reprimand the offenders. It was a kid in this case but nevertheless an official rebuke and temporary kick out of the hall for him and his dad would have been appropriate earlier on to prevent such a horrible end to the match. Only way of teaching the kid/parent.
How does one stop before the point if the flashlight is off then and when the point starts the flashlight is on? R u stupid?
That umpire who ruled Nishimoto should be investigated
All England = better just change its name to All Flashlight
How many more times will we have to go through sh*t like this before badminton tournaments actually install a VAR system and beef up their security? If the Olympics is going to be like this as well, I hope they face serious backlashes.
VAR in football also a criminal
So many bad moments, from a very bad umpire calls to flashlights going off like there is no tomorrow. This is a trend for All England. Every All England tournament (expect during covid times) there will always be controversy like these, yet, they did nothing to prevent these outrageous mishaps from happen.

Nowhere near as many flashlights or bad umpire calls last year or the previous years I have attended since 2019. This year was very very bad.

I'm glad there is discussion on these issues. I would also like to discuss the amount of delay players like Carolina Marin cause to the game. There are many instances where she gets away with delays, in addition to that, she also doesn't return the shuttle properly many times as well. Would be nice to see a video discussing that as well.
she always does that so annoying and doesn’t even get yellow card. Umpires are so racist
She is the worst of all! Just because she is european she gets away!
And her bloody irritating sounds she makes .
Ask the user with flash to pay a huge fine, that will surely deter future happenings, no matter if he/she is a kid, let the parent pay
if it's just a fine, someone is probably willing to pay it just to make someone winning, banned and got escorted out of the stadium by the security would be the best action.
Why not both @@easygoing4964
@@easygoing4964 I would say it depends on how huge the fine is. I mean, would anyone really be willing to pay, say 100000 pounds to have a player win 1 match that isn't a finals match? Though, if they bet on it, then I can see a reason. If the person bet like 200000 pounds on the match I can see them having reason enough to do it, but can any "normal" working person really bet that large an amount of money on a single match that isn't even a finals match? Edit: Not to say I'm against banning and escorting people out of the venue. Imo, they should be banned for a season, escorted out and fined for hurting the players and venues. Especially if people are found to use a laser pointer, as they can actually make people go blind or reduce their eyesight.

In victors case we cannot blame umpire but rather that we need to be equipped with better technology as it is extremely difficult to catch if it was indeed a net touch. In case of flashlight there are two ways to look at it umpire should have escorted that person out because he was reportedly doing it and was not an one off exception but also at the same time player could have completed really but in this case we can't really blame Tunjung because it happened 2-3 times for her. In case of Nishomoto definitely umpire error imo. :)

@@unexpectediteminbaggingare8074 Look at it this way, Badminton players spend most, if not all their time and money to Badminton. Being obstructed would cause you to lose thousands of dollars in prize money. Now how about, let's see, Basketball and Baseball games. I'm pretty sure plenty of faces appear on jumbotrons and online at 4K quality. This kid's basically the same. Arguably, even at worse quality. They're in public, with hundreds of cameras around.

With the flashlight, am I missing something, is the "undue delay" rule quoted in the video even relevant? The rally had already started, she wasn't delaying anything. I have to assume the umpire just didn't believe her that there was a flashlight? Not sure what reason he would have had for that though, she wasn't in a tough spot in the rally that could be cause for "trying it on" by making a false claim. Really strange decision by the umpire there, don't understand it at all

Don't put your words in yamaguchi mouth , as if you are playing for yamaguchi
Obstructing a shot or a stroke is pretty well defined and in Nishimoto's case the umpire was just bad. This wasn't at any point a "grey area". There was no obstruction of stroke possible as the players were so far apart from each other. In the Axelsen Ginting case it's very hard ot judge whether the shuttle crossed the net but Ginting clearly was hitting the net with his racket which is illegal.
Agreed. For Ginting (and I am a Ginting fan), it wasn't so much about the racket crossing the plane of the net, it was that Ginting's racket touched the net. That is a fault.
Axelsen made Ginting swear he did not touch the net and you can see Ginting raise 2 fingers in a gesture to mean "he swears" he did not touch the net...lol.
If it was the kid messing around with the light, blame the dad sitting next to him, or his mom behind him. Better yet, dont take children to important games;)

Do the umpires know the rules well enough? Also , they may have bad vision and make bad judgments due to old age..

I don't think it's a net fault, but it's definitely up for debate. I mean, if it was a net fault, shouldn't the net be shaking? If we consider it from the last point of view, the racket did touch the net, but it was such a light touch that it's hard to say for sure.
Shuttel cock certainly did not attack the field because it fell straight on the court victor, maybe it was the reason for the judge

Karma is when you get punishment for doing something wrong. Ginting didn't really do anything wrong, the umpires were just biased for him in this tournament
@@leob4403 I beg to differ. That net point off Christie's block was clearly his point, the chair umpire was probably dumb, but Ginting should have conceded that point to his compatriot as he clearly saw it wasn't his. Instead, he happily accepted it and played on while Christie was left stunned.

Great content, very informative, Like in other sports they should have a review system to challenge the umpires decision.
There so many different aspects of each match that has been evaluated really well here! Thank you. Human error’s can happen but it absolutely bizzare that there is no appeal or evaluation done to rectify the issue. There have been some good suggestions in the comments but i guess the match officials/ organiser need to self evaluate that human error can happen and they can atleast listen to the appeal and have a review system in place. Sometimes, the organizers and match officals look like authoritarian rather than facilitators of a game. It so unfair to make player go out of the court with a feeling of injustice. Which leave’s a bitter feeling in everyone’s mind. We are human’s hence first need to reflect that we all can make mistakes, but we need to correct if something is not right. ❤BADMINTON.

Why do people turn on their phone flash? That little lightbulb isn't going to make a difference to the image quality, it's far too weak and far away to add any additional brightness to the scene. at 1:06 speed 0.25, it hit the net, the mistake was the umpire said fault after the next hit at 1:10, and the player thought the fault was at that point
Very strange n Sad to see players getting affected by the cellphone/mobile lights. Need some rules to be implemented so that Umpires can take the decision on the court.
Sometimes we dont realize the flash is on. I'm sorry for Gregoria, but she can't stop the game.
One thing the players dislike is inconsistency and where the umpire has to make a subjective call, we get exactly this - inconsistency. In Nishimoto's case, these net blocks have been played for several years now and I have rarely seen any called a fault even when it appears the rackets have actually clashed. Nishimoto's block was very well played and there is no way he hindered Ginting's stroke - it wasn't even close, so a bad decision by the umpire (probably less experienced on the World Tour?). In Axelsen's case, the umpire has the best view and he has to call what he sees. The players know that in this case the decision cannot be reviewed or challenged. It was unfortunate that it was at a critical stage in the match but that's it. If the shuttle had been allowed to drop and fell on Axelsens side, he would have lost the point anyway. The only way Axelsen could win the point would be if the shuttle dropped onto the net tape and fell on Ginting's side. Bottom line: Ginting played a great dropshot and Axelsen played a poor return so perhaps erring towards Ginting was the right call? With flashlights, the organisers need to have stewards policing this constantly - it happens at all tournaments but is particularly bad where the crowd are in semi darkness. The fans can also "self police" this of course. I don't think the rally should be stopped if a flash goes off as this would break the flow of play. However, I do think it is ok to delay serving/receiving if a flash goes off.
I think the reason for Axelsen's reaction is that he was in the middle of a comeback and poor decisions like this one greatly disturbs players. After that call, Viktor looked affected and I'm not certain he would have lost the match, had the call been right.
@@astronoteek1512 well, it was an important point for sure - not sure it was the wrong decision by the umpire though.

When it comes to the flash lights, remove the audience, problem fixed. Let them watch live on screen.
I was watching the semi finals in the stadium and there were many occasions where players complaining about the flash lights. this players have their whole focus on the the shuttlecock of course it would be a great distraction for them. as to why people who take pictures should be advised to turn off their flash as the court is well lit and a small flash from your cellphone camera does not have any affect on the image but greatly affect the players.
There was a game in China and I believe the organizer shined a laser pointer on somebody was turning on the flashlight until they realized and stopped.
Really pathetic, this same thing happen during lzj vs lakshya, viktor vs ginting, tunjung vs yamaguchi, ( for information that flash thing not just happened to tunjung but yamaguchi also faced just she didn't complain, okay)? Don't cry
its a shame no one talk bout ginting got point from 3 fault from 3 diff enemy because he is indonesian
blocking opponent shuttle is fault, there rules in bwf code. nishimoto and christie had fault of this
as you can see from Popov lcw even random player nvr got fault if this happen to Indo player by other country player then you can see alot of hate comment to bwf ig
Don't leave a hate comment. You critiqued those people who flooding BWG IG with hate comments, which it would be good not to do the same.
@@paristiawangnugraha nisihimoto was not blocking . He was far away from the net . This is like calling mixed double front court blocks faults .
@@atulofau9006I didn't leave hate comment just didn't satisfied with Indo fans keep atking when they player receive fault and cheering when enemy got fault
all england is such a joke where umpire's decision is absolute without any further inspection, especially that bald guy. I hate that when there's an inconvenient situation among audiences, security didn't even deescalated.
3:06 racquet over the net.
it a shame that all happened in all england which is a BWF 1000 series, the competition with all the great players participant
And that’s why we should no longer use referees or umpires, but rely sole on instant replays and objective measurements based on the replay screen.
If such incident takes place, Third external refari of match should review on recordings and handover their decision. These are international events and World Badminton Federation must come up with some solution
Nashimoto’s racket wasn’t even close to the net…
Ginting had the refs in his pocket this entire tournament. The Nishimoto block call, the Axelsen net shot, the net shot incident in the final. Can't be a coincidence
How can that flashlight lady live with the thought that she might have caused the Indonesian player to lose her chance at the cup?
The fact that it shows the people doing it yet decided not to pursue the people who were using their flashlights is simply stupid. Proves that the host country are racist themselves.
The ammount of hardwork that the players put in is insane ... and they get repayed by the audience with some random flashlight ... not fair. In tunjung's case , the umpire atleast could replay the point
It's clearly disturbing. I think the BWF should not allow people to use cameras during the game, especially right in front of each player on both sides.
Great video!
Yes from what it seems even if the shuttle was on AS Ginting's side, the racket most probably definitely touched the net as if you see the footage in slow mo, the net does move as well. The fact this was 18 all in the deciding game of the QF is too serious. What should be done is players should have 2 reviews as well (just like challenges) and the umpire should watch a replay closely and then remake the decision or something.
I believe there should be a ban imposed (say 3 match ban) on people who use flashlight inside the stadium.. whether they do it knowingly or unknowingly is irrelevant as it's common sense to not distract the players...
What is the flashes for?
this will make every audience from every country 'legally' disturbing the players they dont support
External factors like the flashlight event can be seen as external factors trying to rig the game and should be treated as a criminal offense.
not only these, those crowds that 'hiak', 'hiak', 'hiak' on every shots that certain players are about to hit are damn irritating as well.. they are killing an otherwise exciting game & should be escorted out too. offenders should be recorded & ban from entering such events for 2 years as each game/location is played once a year.
