We've got ourselves involved in a unique one here, a pump reman and injector replacement for a "while we're at it" engine overhaul project!
Diesel Creek's Matt is in the process of upgrading his 1980 AutoCar ConsTrucktor from it's equipped Cummins Small Cam rated Engine to the over-the-road standby Cummins Big Cam Engine! Going from approximately 230 HP rated engine to a customized Big Cam rated around 400 HP.
The Facebook Marketplace #CumminsBigCam engine came from a rollover and Matt's deep into the engine swap making sure it all goes back together perfectly! So, "while were at it" lets make sure the PT pump is in top shape. @AreaDieselService is also supplying a new set up PT injectors as well as an engine overhaul kit for this collaborative project!
Story has it, this Autocar ConsTrucktor was a service rig for the fabled mining monster - the Silver Spade shovel! (Silver Spade footage from - @miningshorts - • The Silver Spade - The... )

  • Well done all. You showed what needs to be done to get pump back to factory quality. Also showed us in detail what to do, and why, and what not to do, and why. Great quality everywhere in knowledge, skill, workmanship and parts. Camera shy fellow did an excellent job and you can certainly see see this is not his first rodeo. He can remember exactly what part goes where and in what sequence. I am not in that league, though I have been trying for many years. Can get all the bits together and working just fine but many times it is one step forward and two steps back because I got something out of sequence. It is a bit far to send you any of my stuff (I am in Land Down Under) but for anyone in your neck of the woods, would certainly recommend ADS. 72 yr supposedly retired mechanic/machinist/welder/fabricator etc. Still have a 16M x 8M shed at home with lots of toys in it 'cause neighbours and others bring me stuff - they say they want to stave off dementia in me - haha. They certainly challenge me regularly.

Watching the technician work his craft knowing that he’s just rebuilt the heart ❤️ of the engine it will serve has to be very satisfying and he certifies ✍️ it to be on spec… Good job Sir 👍🇺🇸 Curtis, don’t sell yourself short, you did an excellent job explaining the process 👏 Can’t wait to hear the AutoCar come to life. • Hello from the UK, having driven a fair few Cummings powered trucks in my 46 year career, I learned so much about the fuel injection pumps fitted to the two big cam engines fitted to British ERF trucks I once drove back in the day. Absolutely fascinating viewing and expertly narrated too, you both made it totally understandable. I shall look forward to seeing this on Matt's rebuilt engine. Well done to Area Diesel for this vid.

  • I did come to watch you guys from Matt's channel before when he had something else worked on by you all. I'm amazed that you all do such an amazing, job. Back in my day when I was a diesel mechanic I only worked on farm tractor engines and didn't have any of the calibration machines you guys have. I always just had to go with the measurements of components. I mostly worked on Massey Ferguson tractors but I have worked on some John Deere and Ford stuff but nothing as independent as what you guys do. To know that everything you work on you keep such in depth records on each one and if something happens to it and it's not working correctly you can call you all up and you can tell what it left your shop doing and not make it guess work. It's so cool to see true professionals work on those pumps and injectors I know a lot of the injections you source from other reman company's but I've saw some you all did thanks to being introduced by Matt's channel. I always watch your new videos just like Hank's stuff from Hamilton ville farms channel. Or anything you guys post. Thanks for such detailed videos. I as a former diesel mechanic love seeing these type videos. Keep up the good work I'll be watching. PS: I haven't watched Matt box up the pump or injectors yet but now I've got to go see this. Since Matt's channel one of my very favorite channels and I'll try to stay a week behind on his new stuff so I have something new to watch.

  • Been about 48 yrs since I last watched someone rebuild one of those pumps, worked at Cummins for a couple of yrs, did our own rebuilds back then, before Cummins Recon existed, they'd do batches of whatever component they had a few of to do at the time, one week may be fuel pumps, one wk could be injectors, or a mix of lube pumps, water pumps, compressors, accessory drives, Cummins fan hubs, Schweitzer fan hubs. We wouldn't sell buttons across the counter to someone that didn't have a pump stand, had lots of requests though. Cummins Recon didn't really happen til mid 80's. Still a few H models around back then, had disc pumps on them, still sold NT262 conversion kits for the old 220's. Was there for BC1 unveil and BC2 unveil.
