US Open 2019 in Review: Daniil Medvedev

Daniil Medvedev arrived at US Open 2019 on a roll, ranked No. 5 in the world and considered one of the favorites to win the final major of the year. Things turned in his third-round match with Feliciano Lopez, when his on-court behavior drew the wrath of the Louis Armstrong crowd. The 23-year-old relished the villain role and encouraged the fans to boo him.
But US Open fans are not easily fooled by theatrics and can appreciate good tennis when they see it. So after Medvedev dispatched of Stan Wawrinka in the quarterfinals and Grigor Dmitrov in the semis, Medvedev won over the Arthur Ashe Stadium crowd. This set up a mouth-watering final with Rafael Nadal, one of the greatest - and most popular - champions the sport has known.

  • really hope that he can win a grand slam soon.... He gots everything needed and can beat all the top guys. 2019 US open is his bets slam performance so far. After that, his level has too many ups and downs in the late stages of the slams, preventing him from really winning one...

  • he should’ve won and needs to win.. there’s no great players in this generation like in the past to challenge the old guard (jok, nad, fed)... every gen has a passing of the guard.. this is why tennis is dying... you can’t have 3 old guys win everything... it needs new blood to draw younger ppl.. us old guys... we love watching the big 3 win..

  • When Rafa as a mere kid played his 1st final slam he compelled people around the world root for him... such was the magnetism he gave off... distant nobody's like all of us at home instantly made him one of our own... we cheered for him when we could not even watch his game live...on that day...! Today's young people 1st of all don't even look "young"... they are all well into their 20s and have nothing about them that would make viewers like them at all... somehow they slam their way to finals - this guy may even win it but it will never be the same... bcuz the spell that Rafa cast over people - young old male female was something else... the other 2 who get bracketed with Rafa don't even come close... he simply electrifies the world stage of tennis... and to think that poor chap has been battling a birth defect in his foot all along...only fate/destiny can be that cruel...
