WONDERFUL Restoration of a Wrought Iron Screwdriver - Oktoberfest Special

In this video I restore a wrought iron screwdriver. The antique tool is partially forged. It is very rusted and cracked on several spots. A tool restoration is necessary.
I got it for a small fee on eBay. The restoration includes woodcarving and polishing sequences. It was a lot of fun, but way more work than expected, since I got some route blocks on the way.
I think the result looks somewhat medieval, but see for yourselfs.
Thee beertasting is an oktoberfest special of course!
So I'm happy the project is done and the video is ready. I hope you enjoy my content.

It’s really impressing with how many, amazing techniques you gave this Tool a Second life. It’s also really impressing how much you improve your skills vid by vid. Im sure you’ll get the 1M subscribers one day, please keep up with your unique, amazing style! And a big shout-out to your dad, who’s in for the rescue welding! Respect!
I can't handle your nice words. Thank you so much
You have great instincts and the skill to restore. Your dad is probably thinking, "now, son, why would you devote so much time and energy to an old otherwise worthless screwdriver!" Excellent job. I almost bypassed this video (I watch other restoration and repair videos), and this video is top notch. Right up there with the best of them. I am glad your dad assisted in the weld--this was crucial to the restoration. Don't ever skimp on performing quality work in all you do as many others fail to do. I love beer as well. Cheers!
This comment made me emotional. Thank you Videlicet that really made my day and such reactions make it worth to do the extra hussel working on a project while trying to capture it on camera at the same time. Have a great day. I hope to hear from you again. Cheers mate
Love the stop motion wood ply assembly and the reveal stages on the sanding of the end of the handle.
You also watch all videos in one row? Thank you that's amazing
I love that you essentially do your work with common-place tool.! I'm inspired by your work. It makes me feel like I can give these types of restorations a go. Thank you!
One of the best restorers on KZhead. Attention to detail and readily available tools.
I'm a recent subscriber and I've been going through your back catalog, but I'm amazed at how good you were back then and even more impressed with the growth of your skills and techniques. I look forward to watching where things go moving forward!
Absolutely stunning ......
Now it became a vintage piece to be put in a show case. Great work
I think your channel is the best of the resto ones. You keep it simple and what every one of us normal guys can do.
Muy buena restauración! Quedó muy bien el destornillador. 100% operativo. Voy a mirar otros vídeos de este canal. Gracias
I am new to your channel but I am amazed by the craftsmanship you demonstrate. Thank you. You are an inspiration to me!!! 🙏🙏🙏
I, 100%, appreciate the time, dedication, and attention to detail you put into every restoration. Thank you, you're an inspiration.
With that studded patina part and dagger-like shaft, it’s a warrior’s screwdriver!
That is a beautiful screwdriver. Awesome restoration. From trash to family heirloom.
This video puts a big smile on my face. Thank you.
I love watching your videos! Your craftsmanship is fantastic - so detailed, patient, and thorough. Very inspiring! Thank you for sharing your craft, humor, and taste for good beer. Prost!
With the limited tools you had, you did an excellent job
Your Dad is such a highly skilled professional, I knew that as soon as I saw him wearing sandals in his workshop lol
9gaggers unite! Very nicely done man! wish I had this skill and these tools
9gag was very kind to this channel so far. I hope I can meet expectations with my project
I’m just seeing this for the first time today! And I am so happy to see that you worked with your Dad ❤ I got to work at my Dad’s shop for a few months. I also ended up living the same distance from him.
Hello to my cousins in Germany! It was a great restoration and the handle turned out beautifully.
Nice to see a multi-generational restoration. You did a great job; I like the detailing, it's well thought out. Thanks for sharing!
And thank you very much for watching
Wow! The screwdriver is far to pretty to use outside, better for indoor use...or maybe on display as an antique. The woodwork you do is amazing. I've never seen lamination so beautifully done. As for the Kitchen Aid mixer, those knobs were such a beautiful touch.
Thank you Marileen (beautiful name bte) I promise I won't use it outside
I personally do not need to see all seconds of your video Sir. I love your ability to do what you do. And the beer is a cool part of your videos.
Mr. P. Thanks for sharing this beautiful restoration with us. Your attention to detail is extraordinary. Love your work. You're lucky Dad was there for you too. Take care.
Great job on this restoration. Truly a piece of functional art!
Thank you very much!
I attended the opening day of Oktoberfest in Muenchen in 1995. I witnessed the Tapping of the Keg, then went on to enjoy tasting many great beers, wines, brats, etc. Overall, a great day! The screwdriver you restored is also a hammer... The metal cap on the end of the handle is actually a hammer head. I have a modern version of that kind of screwdriver, except the handle is plastic instead of wood. A great item to have when you're up on a ladder & don't want to climb down to get a hammer.
Very lovely. Made it uniquely functional. A+ !
Hey thank you Derek. I think now you saw them all 😊
Outstanding job, you know my heart hurts not being in Germany done this season, always a great time. If you ever start making sets of these drivers I would purchase a set
It's indeed one unusual year for everyone. I hope you can visit Germany next year again.
Nicely done. It looks amazing with the layers of different colored woods used. It is the little details that make it pop. Thumbs Up!
When I planned it, I only thought about the layers seen from the side and it was later when I figured, that the effect would be nice from top view, if I sand of a little more
Perfect! I think it's time for the beer,ε ναι ρε μάστορα!
Family help for the win!
Yes definitely. I am lucky
finally!! another restoration channel that shows real natural rust! instead of the multitude of channels that are ''faking'' their rust first before doing their therefore also fake resto, I thought Hand tool rescue was one of the few, but now I have found another good channel (I always get so pissed off by faked rust!!)
Same Here, but it's not easy to find those projects 😊 welcome to the channel btw
This was one of the most difficult and one of the best restorations I have ever seen. Bravo.
Wow thank you John. I really appreciate it
I am impressed. Looks just beautiful.
Thank you Jill
The center pin was cool good to see u leave that ring with the patina.
I just saw, that you have some nice projects on your channel too. Keep it up and thank you for the feedback
That’s the most epic screwdriver I’ve ever seen! Great restoration 👍🏼
Extremely well done, sir.
I like your comments. They are similar but always different 😊

Thanks fellow
It's such a cool looking screwdriver. Awesome job
Beautiful restoration. I also love listening to the sounds of your work. I love beer.
Glad you enjoy it Nancy!
Beautiful results. The laminated scales are very nice.
Yes indeed. I like the uniqueness of those older objects. And I'm glad you liked the laminates
Impressive, and to keep that original ‘ring’ added to the restoration just that extra touch.
Perfect friend, screwed, blued & tattooed LOL !!!.
hahahhaha Brian that comment made me laugh
Wow! That old screwdriver got ALL the love! Outstanding job and the result is amazing. Loved the stop motion editing and the help from dad too. Excellent video. 😃👍🏼
Thank you. You're the first one who mentioned the stop motion :D
No doubts that is a beautiful transformation. Well done DR.
Mr Kent it was a pleasure. Thank you for watching. I hope to see you again on my other videos

Regards from Venezuela. I enjoy your restorations. Your father should have his channel. Very good work.
Top- job on this one....brilliant idea with the ring....love it
Thank you for this kind feedback. The ring is my favorite part too. I didn't expect it to shine and show patina at the same time
@@NTRprojects Thanks. I uploaded today a small picture montage of a tool that could be very useful with your work. check it out. Regards.

Trabalho espetacular , ótimas ferramentas , parabéns.
"espetacular" é uma palavra tão bonita. Obrigado pelo grande elogio
That is a superb tool which I hope you will use for many a year. You are a very talented craftsman! I love your beer segment! Hope you get a workroom soon!
Your video made me happy and sad as my Dad was always there when I needed help and he was a very good welder. He passed away 25 years ago but I still miss him especially when I get stuck on a project. But I have my son and he always rings me when he’s stuck and my normal response is “bring it over”. Now I know how my dad must have felt as it makes me so happy that I’m the first person he turns to and he thinks I can fix anything. It also gives us time together and we get to have a good laugh and talk. Like your dad, I have plenty of my own projects to do but I’m never to busy to help him. You did a beautiful job on the screwdriver especially with the limited tools you have. I know that it took an enormous amount of hours to do but the final result was worth the effort. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
Oh Stuart now you made my sentimental. I think it's great that you pass on to your son what you're dad what your father taught you. I wish you many nice projects to come
@@NTRprojects Thanks so much. 👍👍👍
Saubere Arbeit und sehr schönes Ergebnis.
Thank you very much
They need to make old screwdrivers and other old style hand tools like this again, if not for only collector’s items.
Yes yes yes. Like special editions.
I have to disagree, but let me explain first. These old tools were made, because there was need for such a tool (obviously). They were made in such a way that was available back then. When technology changed (evolved), so did the tools. Moreover, tools need to be made according to norms and safety standards. They also need to be price oriented, because most people will buy cheaper one. Most buyers need a tool to make some work, not for it to look good. There's also one other dilemma - 'vintage'ness. When a product become vintage? It need to have some age to it at least. It needs to be made in "good ol' ways"; bonus points if it's hand made. If there's a story behind it, even better. New tools won't be hand made, because that's way too inefficient on a larger scale. Even if you would pre-produce components for it, assembly still would take too long. Such a tool, produced for a large scale, would also be way less desired as a designer piece - by being too common, mass produced and new. Nowadays that's a work for passionates, who will make such tool for order, more as collectibles, yet with usability as well. That's the only way for such a piece to have that "something", what makes it unique. Take "Hand Tool Rescue" wrenches and screwdrivers for example. Those are the tools you and I referring to ;)
I still would love a set.
@@Kwaq84 I do understand the concept of lean production and I know that such tools wouldnt be the best sellers on amazon. Yet I'm sure that a collectors edition of handmade tools with a classic design and a very high quality would sell today as a premium market product.
Wow I am Impressed. Great job.
Art at its true form. SICKNESS at it's true intent ! GREAT WORK
Excellent work! I'm impressed by the 150km journey for a restoration
Well I visited my parents with this trip as well, so it was a good invest of time. Thank you for the support
