This same team actually won it 2 years later, with only Ozil, and Kaka leaving. Of course we deserved it that year, but that disqualification actually made us learn HOW to WIN big crucial European games. Without it, we would never won 5 UCL in 8 years.

@@shad0w1599 Winning la Liga that year actually launched Real Madrid's European reign for the years that followed. Mourinho did the biggest, and hardest part by rebuilding the squad, and ending Barcelona's outrageous domination. We certainly wouldn't have made it without him, and people should all seriously consider how undeniable, and huge his impact was for Los Galacticos return. Hiring Mourinho at that time was THE greatest deal, and best decision ever made, with SAF being appointed as Man Utd's manager. And that huge game against Bayern was the very 1st big test for our path to European glory, and everybody remembers how close we were to reach the final. Despite that fail, the game itself became legendary, and an UCL's classic. Luck doesn't always smiles you, you know. Like everything was already written in the stars, and loosing that important game - somehow - meant we weren't ready yet. But Bayern also had such a great side, with only experienced world class top players for every position. The same squad that won the UCL, a year later, after destroying Barcelona for good, in both legs, and having several of its own players winning the world cup in the same era. However, there's NO contest other Spanish team would ever come close to reach Madrid's unreal reccords made in that unforgettable season. Those numbers are so high, they'll remains unbreakable.

This was the most dominant Real in the modern era. The Zidane team mastered the art of winning big games but this team set league records that still hold, perfect counterattacking and the most balanced version of the galatico project ever. Technically, the penalty shooters didn't missed their shots. Neuer was playing the best game of his career, and saved his team from an inevitable defeat. Sergio Ramos was the only one who missed his shot, and this disqualification actually gave what Madrid missed, and needed to win the greatest European title again ; experience of winning crucial games. What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Of course, Bayern took it the hardest way the next year by taking an absolute demolition from us at their own pitch, and never won against us since ;).
