Protesting works to help the cause and people they are protesting for. In this case, it is putting a lot of public and political pressure for US tax dollars and arms being sent to lsreal to stop. Palestinian lives would become a lot better after that, including the saving of many lives.

What we all need to protest is the fact Americans are asked to sacrifice more for Israel than the citizens of Israel is willing to. Israel is a rich country. Their citizens enjoy national healthcare, subsidized college, and spend $55M a year to provide free 10day vacations for their Birthright program. We don't have those luxuries, but somehow we're expected to fund the national security of a non-US State and non-NATO member. If national security is of such importance to them, why are they not willing to make cuts to fund it?

These Palestinian solidarity demonstrations are growing worldwide because once you see it, you can't unsee. Israel is engaging in ethnic cleansing and genocide as colonial settlers have always done. Israel could benefit from realizing they are doing to Palestinians what the holocaust did to them. Israel requires a "final solution" for Palestinians as the people they pretend never existed do exist. Creating a colonial settler state in the Middle East was at least as stupid as the movement to send blacks back to Africa, but here we are. What happened to the Jewish people of Europe was absolutely horrific. However, those people had not lived in the Middle East for a couple thousand years. If a Jewish state was to happen it would have made more sense to carve it out in Europe as that's where most of the settlers were from, not displacing the people of Palestine from their homes and land. They hadn't been involved in the holocaust. But displacing a bunch of Europeans was too problematic, and nobody else stepped up and volunteered to carve a Jewish settler state out of their country. Zionists had a lot less obstruction to colonizing Palestine as those people were(are) seen as less human than Europeans and with less human rights. There is no justification for what Israel has and is doing to the people they pretend never existed (a land without a people). Once you see it, you can't unsee. Palestinians must have the same rights as all other citizens in Israel. The idea of creating a Jewish settler state in the Middle East was at least as stupid as the movement to send blacks back to Africa, but here we are. What happened to the Jewish people of Europe was absolutely horrifi. However, those people had not lived in the Middle East for a couple thousand years. There is no justification for what Israel has and is doing to the people they pretend never existed (a land without a people).

American money is being used to fund this war. How is that a non-American issue? Or do you not realize the US is constantly engaged in international politics and interests? Do you not realize that nation states are man made inventions and in reality we live on one planet and what happens in other parts of the world impact the whole? If that were not the case, Covid-19 would have stayed in its country of origin. Goods and resources we receive would only come from our country. We are interconnected and the US can not continue to influence the politics of other countries, have army bases and wars all over the world and not expect it to impact us at home.

I don't know whole heaps about the war, so I won't say too much, but I'm not sure what the frustration for Israel is all about. Hamas attacked the nation first, so of course the retaliation will be swift and terrible. Of course though, I could be missing a crucial element to the story as to why these protests are occurring, and I believe that I am since I also see pro-Palestine rhetoric in my hometown too.
If you dont know much about it, you should probably educate yourself from various conflicting sources and develope a wider understanding of different perspectives before forming an opinion and blurting it into the internet.
Hamas exists because Israel has been oppressing the Palestinians for the last 75 years. Most Palestinians in Gaza aren't even from Gaza, Israel rounded them up and dumped them there in the 1920s and 1950s.

a lot, actually. most if not all these protests are directed towards pressuring their schools to divest from the state of israel; nyu, columbia, USC, and most other US colleges either have campuses in israel and/or have a sizable portion of their endowments invested in israeli companies and these protests are an attempt to exert financial pressure on israel (the same was done on many US campuses towards apartheid south africa during the late 70's-80's)

I sympathize with the students, but question their methods of protest. Do they really think they'll change Israel's position on the conflict? All they're doing is putting themselves in jeopardy. True for any public protest. Both sides are seriously flawed in the conflict over there, but the protests make it appear one-sided, anyway.
