Oh that Generals spiritual successor looks awesome!
I agree however the UI is unnecessarily gigantic, right? Pretty obtrusive imo
Generals was the last title created by Westwood Studios before EA bought them and practically killed the RTS genre single handedly. I pray for its success.
Age of Empires 2 is my favorite RTS. Glad you made it to the conference!
Thank you Jason, this means a lot to us 🙌 It is invaluable. Thanks a lot for everything you have done 🙏
It was great to meet you in person Jason at GDC🎉!! Thanks for the chat!
Loved the Command and Conquer series, but also got hooked by Total Annihilation.
Thank You for sharing this info about GDC 2024. 💯 😄👍🏻 Some really exiting new features indeed... gotta try Unity6 soon. PS: My younger brother has always been a hardcore fan of the Command & Conquer game franchise... and I learned to love those games thanks to him.
My roomate went to gdc and mentioned to me that he met you, thats cool 🙂
Tell him hello for me!
Saw you there wish could take a photo with you 🤩 but you disappeared 🤣🧙♂. Could not thank you in-person but it was great seeing you and Thank You
Don't let me escape next time! I'm a bit deaf so make sure you're loud or in front of me :)
Jason, How did you start learning to code when you started as a game developer?
Books and experimentation. I'd recommend the internet now though, wasn't an easy option in the 1900s
Thanks, much appreciated.
C&C soundtrack ftw! That stuff played in my head all hours of the day!
just realized I'm B&W :)
I hope they don't forget to focus on stability and bug fixing, I've ran across a lot of bugs in later Unity versions and while new features are great, a smooth stable platform is better.
Oddly enough though it LOOKs like generals We are 20 years in the future or close to right I mean it does look smoother in terms of fps and ai navigation but the game really looks like c&c generals still I hope they can get someone in to vamp up the models fidelity Most phones can handle what they showed there
That's mostly my recording of the video. They have it running w/ 200k poly tanks at high FPS using some DOTS & GPU rendering techniques. I've seen the longer tech demo and it's really impressive looking. Hoping to play a demo very soon :)
That said I don't think an RTS on phone would be a good fit. At least not the type I'm thinking of and want to play right now :)
@Unity3dCollege I'd love to see more in depth Yeah a demo you can really show off the features
Are they remaking C&C generals? AHHH god damn we've all been waiting for it for 20 years
Try "Beyond All Reason", a great new rts that's very TA like
Hello, where can a noob learn Unity in Los Angeles? Thanks.
I'm not sure the best place, but LA is great for game devs. Join the local meetups asap to get started. Which meetups depend on which part of LA, though, since it's so huge.
wow cool things are happening in unity i like it man but this video edit was super bad i know your might have been in a rush but that is not a good thing to do but keep it up
Afaik STPP is not AI.
It sounded like it uses sentis AI to make it happen, there was more detail in the podcast where he elaborated on how it worked and the performance gains, just way too smart info for me to relay well :)
@@Unity3dCollegeFrom what I've read and heard it's mostly based on signal processing. The tech behind is really impressive though.
STPP (spatial temporal post processing). The technologies are already in the name. No AI as far as I know.
generals wasn't bad, RA2+YR is the goat though
anyone else remember the 'scouts honor 10 minute no attack rule' in generals multiplayer games? I remember programming an egg timer just for that game... and shocking how many people actually honored that rule without the game having a mechanic to enforce it.
Red Alert 2 was the best one.
Close, but it was 0h :)
largely for the generals themselves adding faction variety :)
@@Unity3dCollegeI was really waiting for Generals to be great, but one it was released... meh. I had a IBM Gaming PC 93 magazine with walkthru of C^C1, but never had a chance to play. Wanted very much, since I loved Dune 2. RA1 I missed too but Toberian Dawn and RA2 was a blast. Renegade was pretty fan by the way. Generals was the last entry I played, and it was disappointing. :) Can't want for second remaster
Zero hour is best
Not to hate or anything, in fact I actually like unity, have developed games with it and am still developing with it. But from what I've read and from what I've heard from unity's GDC.... It sounds like it was the most boring experience ever. Most of the stuff shown/announced were already announced in the last unite event. It feels like there isn't much excitement in the stuff in progress with unity. I really hope it's just a one time thing.
There wasn't much saved for gdc, definitely knew 90% of the stuff before. But I felt that way with everyone but discord this year
It was really almost the same as a year ago and also in November at Unite Now.
most boring unity GDC ever! tbh...
