Fitting that the grappler, designed by a man in Arizona, is heavily used by Phoenix PD and Arizona State Patrol. It’s an amazing device and he deserves all the credit for it
I really like the tactic they deployed here. Unmarked car in front of another unmarked car to hide the grappler and then the first one pulls off beside suspects' vehicle and the unmarked car behind it deploys the grappler, first unmarked car slows in front of suspect vehicle so grappler can get him.
OK, how many of you were waiting for the front end of the police car to come off or the rear end of the silver car to come off? Come on, I know some of you were waiting for that :)
@@trvman1 why would it come off, its attached to the axel of the wheel and the chasis of the cop car
@@joezic Ugh we know. Always got to ruin the fun. :(
@Holo Scope Yeah, Arizona is notorious for their undercover units. Watching other pursuits, you can see the flood of unmarked Chevies and Fords. If you’re ever driving through Arizona, be on your best behavior!

I've seen plenty of chases where there are 2 or more people in the car.
@@BillGraper Passengers yes, however can only be 1 driver.
The grappler police bumper is an in genius piece! Someone needs to send the memo to Los Angeles!
All states should have the grappler
Yes I agree 💯!! The government can even go up on my taxes to pay for the "GRAPPLER" 😂Tax dollars well spent! ( For a change) lol
ingenious
How does the grappler work and what is it?
L.A. would rather put innocent people at risk. Theyd swing a boat anchor around in circles and throw it before theyd spend money protecting America
I remember seeing when this guy invented the grappler on TV when it was just a prototype. I'm glad it is working for him. I honestly think they should get more of these to stop chases. Ramming the car can cost lives and damages cop cars.
Similarly I've seen several Utubes of Grappler and raised the question Patch, and local LA news sites why the law enforcement depts. don't all get them .....they are less than 10 grand I think and I've watched pursuits where I've seen an easy 100K of property damage and at least that much in medical bills.....mostly borne by innocents. The pit drivers are amazing dudes but I've seen some go terribly wrong and this device could've saved lives and prevented a basketful of lifetime trauma from these events. Seems a small price to pay for the massive undeserved trauma these caustic criminals inflict on the public.
I forgot to mention that once this device is used, they only have to renew the strap assenbly and hardly ever any hard parts......meaning it's as reusable as a Musk 1st stage rocket.
Yeah same !! Hopefully he's a multimillionaire now n no one does in pit flips anymore.. Top job fella.
Same here, I remember seeing the inventor when it was just in prototype mode.
Only works on stupid people 😂🤣
That device is INCREDIBLE! Never seen it used before and wow. Kudos to the officers for being so patient and getting things perfect. What a success.
Some dude in Arizona designed that grappler and the police didn't want it at first.

I saw a few years ago as well and was wondering where it was or if it even was usable and this was awesome clean and safe
8:40 the dreaded grappler! ...working to perfection.
I remember seeing it too. Back then, most people seemed to think it was a stupid idea that would never work. Oh how the turn tables.
The undercover police pursuits that our local departments use here are next level police work. It's safer and more effective than breaking off the pursuit or having a pursuit and creating a huge public danger.
Other than when they were using them to hand out traffic tickets. The amount of times I’ve seen people get pulled over by that yellow Camaro on the 17 is insane. Think Scottsdale and Phoenix just lost some lawsuits regarding their use of unmarked vehicles for traffic stops.
No cop should be allowed to have an unmarked car.
@@nobodyspecialfromkentucky why is that?
@@anthonyscott1997 because anyone can pose as an unmarked and cause alot of problems. they should all 100% be marked so EVERYONE including innocent civilians know wtf is going on.
@@dannyipwn1203 well the point of them being unmarked is the element of surprise, not knowing wtf is going on. I'd agree it would be sketchy in a couple scenarios but idk what the cops reasoning is.
First time I’ve seen the deployment of the grapple hook maneuver. Unbelievable! Glad no injuries to officers or pups. Also good to see departments have equipment and untold hours of training to keep communities safe. Great job ladies and gentlemen, those behind the scenes as well. 👍😊
Lol "untold hours of training"? I want to believe this was sarcasm... but I'm just not sure lmfao
I'm surprised they even showed that, it's so graphic, lol and to watch glass coming off the windshield will haunt me for life. Can you possibly project anymore false fear ?????? Where are the signs posted coming up on these events telling you of graphic nature. It's all part of life to deal with, get over it
It only took 8 years to implement and each grappler car costs $800,000 😂
We can't even get a First Responder Training Center built in my town!! I prefer the police officer s that I need to maybe... like... SAVE my life be trained, Thank -you just the same!!🤕🚓
I remember seeing the inventor of The Grabbler when he first brought it to the attention of police in Arizona (I think that’s where he lives). I don’t know if any other police departments in other states have purchased it but I think every department in every state should have at least 2 police vehicles equipped with The Grabbler. I believe it would save many innocent people from being severely injured and save lives. Even if it saved one life, it’s worth it.
Officers responded to the area of Cave Creek and Deer Valley Roads at around 2:30 p.m. for a vehicle that was blocking the roadway. They located an adult male passed out in a vehicle blocking traffic in the roadway. Officers observed weapons and what appeared to be drugs inside the vehicle as well. When the driver woke up, he rammed his car back and forth in to the police cars, and was eventually able to drive off. Officers did not pursue the car, but a police helicopter was used to keep surveillance on the car, while detectives from Phoenix Police's tactical support bureau responded. The vehicle was eventually grappled and stopped near 48th Street and the I-10. Less-lethal munitions and a police K-9 were utilized to safely take the driver of the vehicle into custody.
Thank you!
Thank you.

I love the grappler. Every law enforcement vehicle should have one of those.
totally agree
Not every law enforcement vehicle needs one. They are dispatched upon request and it would not make sense to the taxpayer to fit every vehicle with one of these.
@Jon Bennett true, everyone doesn't need top of the line vehicles, used cars work fine for citizens
@Jon Bennett yes I definitely want an officer to be driving a 92 Honda Civic. That’s just stupid. I don’t think that a device like this should be on every vehicle no. But to say they should drive a tuner drift car is just daft

@7:54 Thought that homeless man was an undercover cop. Was waiting for him to pull his gun out and say" freeze sucka"! haha
The police should be commended for their ability not just the grappler but the way they handled this whole chase. Very low key low pressure on the criminal. You cornered him but not right on him, gave him enough room to feel he was still in control. It's the only reason this guy wasn't flying down the road and stopped at the light later. It took a lot of patients and training by the police to be able to pull this off this well. We need more funding for our police and training. So people don't get hurt and yes even the criminal.

The Grappler is extremely Racist...it will only work on cars of color.....has never worked on an all white car....they need to get rid of it... Massive law suits coming..

I remember seeing this device, there was a page to fund the development and marketing of this device. It was years ago so I hope it’s being used nation wide by law enforcement by now as it’s such a useful tool.
I was thinking the same thing, I remember watching the (IIRC) kickstarter or some kind of ad for it, and thought "wow i really hope that takes off" now that im seeing it years later be used practically is really cool
I saw an Ad about it awhile back. Great to see it in action
yes fantastic! every cop car in los angeles needs one on there car. i just wonder if it can hold down anything being attached to just a cop car. the way its done here is a three quarter ton truck implemented the device on a small car. it seemed to pull from that even.
I actually saw a video about this on KZhead about the grabbler device. Pretty awesome technique which I think would be better than the pit maneuver it surprises me that no other LAW Enforcement Agency is looking into this. I know now with all the defund the police is not great. First Responders Lives MATTER. as a former firefighter.
they have a lasso shooter for people running too, would love to see them use that instead of shooting cause a taser vs someone running is less reliable.
I remember seeing the net grapple shown over a decade ago. Awesome to see it finally implemented. It worked as well as originally advertised
At least innocent people will be not put in way of dangerous situations as in past.
That was satisfying. The suspect didn't even see it coming. I mean im sure by the time they got close he thought they were going to ram him or so a bit but he had no idea they had that trick up their sleeves. Love it.
Having the patience, and using to your advantage truly does pay off. Especially in s situations such as this one. Very well executed for sure, many kudos to the officers that were a part of that particular situation. Also, kudos to the man that designed a very effective device for the law enforcement.
The grappler is just a damned miracle tool for how safe and flawless it works. It should be mandatory equipment everywhere on earth, since it rendered the pit maneuver wildly unsafe and inadequate the instant it came into existence.
Wouldn't someone just have to install a small pole behind each of their wheels to defeat it?

I always get a good laugh from the stupid things newscasters say in situations like this. Like in this case they've never seen a crew-cab truck with a cap on the bed. SMH
Didn't know a truck bed camper was considered armor now lol
@@alkdjfhgks1919 It's a regular one and armoring it up would slow the truck down too much, especially since it's already holding a beds worth of equipment. The reason I know it's regular, is cause I was looking into getting that specific sized one, which is also the smallest type. Also it's made of a thin sheet of aluminum and in cheaper cases, fiberglass
That is an awesome piece of equipment. Great way to put a stop to anyone endangering innocent lives on the road. 👌

And letting the dog bite the s*** out of the guy for no reason when they could have just arrested him. To you that's absolutely fantastic police work. Yeah right.
This a very safe and useful tool that I would not mind more departments using. There are a lot of steps police departments need to take to make traffic stops and pursuit safer. This is one of them.
Yeah I just don't think PITs are safe. They are often done in traffic, and it puts people at risk. The UK are able to do flawless box ins almsot every time, why can't the US
At slow speeds this is fine, but it completely locks up the rear axle, which means you lose all control of the vehicle, as you are skidding on rubber. So, great tool for slow speed.
Grappling hook has been out for a while but hardly used. Now after watching this video I hope they will use the Grappling hook more often.
This day of technology you would think that they have a electric probe or stun gun type device to pop the car into "off" mode kill the engine then force the purp into a foot chase thinking would be much better than what I see done today at 90 mph or unloading firearms into populated areas?? So in my area why had a guy run, and cop pit maneuvered them before that could pull into Walmart parking lot, they hit a light pole and flipped, murder suspect took his life. The police got bashed for how the did their job but people have to understand the only way they could have done this chase as safe as they did was the helicopter, if not for it, the car would’ve escaped.
The ability to stop cars safely is an amazing advance in stopping evading suspects safely. It, along with air coverage, also allowed this to occur as a low speed chase, through a packed freeway, that ended with NO ONE harmed at the end, or along the way. I believe this product should be adopted nationwide, as it is absolutely a game changer for stopping currently dangerous police pursuits safely, for vehicles light enough for it to be used. News Lady: Not weaving lanes Suspect: **Driving crooked as hell.**
The grappler hook is a BRILLIANT invention that may SAVE LIVES. JOB WELL DONE Officers. 💙
Thank God for fast forward.
"he was driving in a red shirt...." Looked like a car to the rest of us. Reporter also doesn't realize that the "t" in "often" is SILENT. Sheesh.
Turns out these two have never seen a full size pickup truck with a topper
I live in Phoenix, and I've gotta say, our police force is BAD ASS!!! This was AWESOME to watch live!!!! Job well done boys!!!
Look at the dog at 14:53? His handler is trying to pull him back, but that dog, the dog that dog the dog is just wagging his tail and saying let me go. Let me go let me go. Oh my word. Cannot help but love that visual of the dog wanting to go and get the bad man. Mr. pooch was so ready to jump on him.
I love this device, great driving from the men and women.
I love that they let the dog get in in the action and get some bites in. Such a good boy!
“It’s beyond an Escalade” I believe that was a Silverado with a camper shell
Actually a Raptor
@@robthomas9070 Definitely not a Ford, has the front end and taillights of a Silverado and is missing the Raptor’s arch extensions
@@Poopsticle_256 Upon further review, yes I believe you are correct. I think it actually says Silverado on the hood, right side.
@@Poopsticle_256 not every ford is a raptor
This is a great example on police capture. This is how to stop a vehicle quickly. Congratulations to the police officers.
What possesses a guy who has just been grappled, sandwiched between trucks, and surrounded by cops with rifles, shotguns and shields, to resist to the point that they have to let the K9 loose in his front seat? At what point does he start to re-evaluate his life choices?
Love these Phoenix chases. The undercover cars are always so unassuming - work trcuks, minivans, SUV's... TOTALLY cool to see the Grappler. So many take down devices out there - and it's great to see one (we've seen for years in theory) get some practical use. And with stellar results.
Your name reminds me of a guy I used to know named Thomas Thomason.
This is such a smarter way to deal with "car chases". Unlike LA where it's almost a spectator sport here it brought to an end with very little drama and the public didn't look like it was in any more danger than the perpetrator presented on his own.
Exactly! Would be awesome if they could implement the same tactics here in LA
"I don't know what that is. It's bigger than an escalade. It looks armored". You haven't seen a pickup truck before?
This just came up in my feed. Wow, a grappler on the road; that's some serious Batman-level stuff right there!
I’m very happy to see the Grappler being used! I wish all departments had some of these.
Yes! Make ASP get them and make them stop PITing people at unsafe speeds.
am new to this video , can you tell me what the guy did ?
FYI, they were probably shooting pepper balls into the vehicle to deter a gunfight. That being said, I haven't read on this or even looked into it all that much. So take what I say with a grain of salt and do your own research
Yeah it doesn't look like gunfire. It was definitely a less lethal device being shot into the vehicle either pepper balls or gas.
They used an awesome amount of nonlethal tools and this pursuit was like the safest possible. I'm not an expert, just an arm chair quarterback, but this seems like an awesome job done
I figured it might've also been some type of gas they were trying to deploy didn't look like the round was able to go through the window tho
Everybody look where the bullets were aimed at: The Mirrors. They were trying to prevent the suspect from looking out the side mirrors.
@@SherrifOfNottingham good eye. I wish the TV copters got in close. I don't understand the liability concerns regarding, oh my Lord!, some member of the viewing public seeing something lethal go down with blood or brain parts.
You can say goodbye to watching police chases with this baby on board! 🤣
I love it when the dog goes in!
