I hope everyone is having a great week. I had forgotten about this story but was reminded of it during a recent conversation with a former co-worker. It was certainly a stressful few weeks. I hope you all enjoy it.

Only one Atlanta Hawk player fits the criteria that year. Joe Smith. Could be wrong, but he was in the news in 2018 for blowing through $61 million and is now broke.
Joe Smith was not a journeyman who made the NBA minimum. Also, while the setting is Atlanta, Ed doesn't say it was a member of the Hawks, simply an ex-NBA player.
Smith made the league minimum in 2009. The Hawks were Smith's 10th team (and 13th stop) in 15 seasons. He was traded 6 times in the 14 seasons leading up to joining the Hawks. @@stevenhancock2822
Buying and trading cars that quickly without any understanding of his financial was always going to lead to trouble. He probably did not even know how much money he had. And probably there was a sit down with an account on several occasions who told him and he just ignored it. He could have had a stunning life with nice cars if he had of been more responsible.

@Fuert Neigt yeah. they fucking feed 30 ppl and spend money like crazy.. plus anything can happen. they think they got 3-4 years in league but they get injured n no team wants em then they fucked.. n when u retire u obvs get no money coming in from the league anymore. thats why u hire a good financial adviser, instead of giving money to friends, help them open a business or something where they can make money and u can too for much longer instead of throwing it away.. instead of spending 2-3 million on fucking chains u can simply open up fast food restaurants or something and u own em forever n get money.. they gotta set themselves up.. so many dumb ppl in the nba. i couldn't imagine have 20m in the bank to going broke. i would prob kms
It is amazing how the right person telling a story can make it interesting and entertaining. No need for video's or graphics or over dramatization. Just someone telling a story. This is a great channel
That DBS Volante in that colour combination looks so good, has definitely aged very well. Still desirable to this day.
The police in these stories are 100% useless, it's hard for me to understand why in the law knowing exactly who has has your car is a detriment to recovery.
It's more or less the same police force and most of these stories are from the same time period. To have the cops constantly fail to provide what we see as capable help isn't really that strange given the circumstances. I'm sure they had other priorities during the years Ed started his rental company and the time at the dealers. If the case isn't clear cut you might have to seek legal council just to produce it to the police, it's not the way policing should work but if they can't be nudged in the correct direction from the get go, they won't bother. The AD's office should also take some blame for this as well as civilian over sight comities.
Because it's not a theft. At least not entirely by legal definition. And the law has many loopholes.
@@aliabdallah102 Exactly. He didn't obtain the car unlawfully, so it cannot per definition be theft. I'm not entirely sure what this could be though. Unlawful disposal?

I'm in sales at a mainstream dealer here in Canada, and I can vouch for your statement on "days off" during the week. Having said that, I'd be pretty choked if I missed out on a deal with one of my customers THE NEXT DAY just because I didn't happen to be there that day. Thanks for the stories, I love how similar the exotic car business is to mainstream car sales!

As entertaining as Rabbit, Doug, Rob, or the valet guys stories are, Ed’s story’s are the ones I tend to look for or gravitate to. His word play is amazing. He’s the best story teller by far. The sense of humor and his sarcasm is unmatched

As someone who works as a salesperson in the automotive industry this honestly hits pretty close to home. If you want recognition and praise I wouldn’t recommend becoming a car salesperson. ...I wouldn’t recommend becoming a car salesperson in general.

Rip the porter. They made us clean a women’s bathroom because the thought someone threw up but it was just ice cream all over everything so the 3 of us got all the signs and dramatically closed every thing and got the chemical mixing suit we have for some reason and then we cleaned it in 2 minutes then just hung out for like an hour

Ed, I am a new subscriber, and love your stories.
First flag is NBA players. Second flag is personal check. Sorry I'm sure there are some that hold onto money. But most are like teenagers with bank accounts that have 6+ zeros before the decima burning holes in their pockets. Years out of the league only 1 zero before the decimal.
There is also another flag, which is a word I will not dare utter here..
Same goes for NFL players, only in their case they'll whine to the media about how the league "didn't do enough" to "teach" them how to be financially responsible as if its the league commissioner's fault thet they're too stupid to save money and not be criminals.

Moral of these stories don’t trust sports players or musicians. Make sure you have the down payment before they leave like everyone else.
They usually get rich from nothing so they do not have the financial education and end up spending all of their money.
Loving how he talks about the car sales aspect of having no days off haha. Every time I am finally relaxed at home i get that call from a GM or manager saying I should come in for a test drive or I already have something scheduled for that day. no days off but it is a very fun profession you meet a lot of very nice people but also some of the worst I do have to say myself

“It’s just a dog eat dog world” this is a bad mentality to have because it doesn’t have to be this way, I’ve worked in sales and my team has respect for each other and never stole commission because they had a day off. Accepting that it’s just that way is saying it shouldn’t be changed.
