For those who might be concerned about the fire part, don't worry. The glue used for tire patches needs to be partially evaporated to stick. Normal instructions for tire patches might tell you to wait 30 minutes for glue to evaporate before placing patch. However, you can speed this process up 100 times faster by setting it on fire for about 30 sec, then blowing it out, then apply the patch. This works because the heat from the fire will evaporate the glue much faster than regular sunlight at room temp. It saves a mountain of time in the workshop.
No I thought the fire would freeze it 100% faster

Que porqueria de taller no le da pena esa cochinada
No guy. The adhesive process is called vulcanization and when you set the glue on fire you burn the chemical off

m.kzhead.info/sun/ZbWLYdqZnmOEbIk/bejne.html
@@aaroncupples344 Why?
@Gufo_Tave you don't light it on fire. It's a chemical cure patch. You apply the Vulcan cement, allow it to dry, then apply the patch. The cement chemically bonds the rubber of the tire to the patch forming a solid piece. A proper patch plug fixes a tire like new. Also been a while since I watched this video but I recall him using a patch plug and not using cement on the stem of the patch. Not proper procedure as well. Crazy people don't read the I structures on the bottles. It explains all of this.
I like that he actually balanced the tire. So many shops that don’t even bother to do so.
If the tire and wheel are already balanced
If the tire and wheel are already balanced you Mark the wheel and tire before you take the tire off. Then match the marks when putting the tire on the rim. Saves the price of getting the wheel balanced . Unless the shop wants to scam you.
i used to mark where the air valve is on the tire and just line it up when i put it on
Most of the time though they still shift weight so you need to rebalance if you want a customer not to come back with problems lol
Hi,hello old friend
The fact that he balanced it after shows he know what he’s doing. Tons of tire shops do not balance after a patch job.
What does balancing do? It seems obvious from the name but why should he have balanced it?
Exactly!I agree they sure don't!
@@thisisntsergio1352 with a speed of 100km up the car steering will vibrate, balancing mostly for the front tires only ,

@El as long as he screws in the first few threads with his hand and doesnt tighten them to much with the imoact there is absoluttly nothing wrong with it
I did the same steps except the flame. That's something new to me. I rarely use the patch with the plug, always used the patch.
Torching the glue only makes it dry faster. I don't light it I just give it time to tack out. My tire supplier even told me most tire glues now would not burn. Other wise, he did it by the book. A-1 job.

The restriction on the use of tar strips has nothing to do with how long they last, it's that the are applied externally meaning the carcass is not inspected adequately. I've learned to do a plug without bead sealer, with sealer, etc. End of the day, as long as it ain't leaking, you're good to go. And respect for the balance too, I've worked next to guys that would just mark the tire and mount it in the same spot, not accounting for the plug changing the balance.

@@erzahler1930 it doesn't help rather breaks the lifespan of bonding. But their mindset is opposite.
The old vulcanizing patches you would light on fire. Those patches sucked. Some people light the glue to dry it up quicker. Just use less glue and wait a little for it to dry properly. If you ever noticed how they remove pinstripes or other stick on things, a heat gun is used, it softens adhesives.
That guy has a shit ton of weights under his balancer too, we’d pick them up immediately after stripping them
That's to allow the patch to stick to the interior steel belts
Every other shop: "It's too close to the sidewall and we can't repair it. You need a new tire"

@Marcus M it's that job security
The vulcanizing fluid is sticky but takes a while to dry. If you dont light it on fire and just put the patch through, youre liable to have the patch not stick all the way around and stitching it without it being sticky, the patch can move around and come loose. Ive been patching tires exactly like this for years and not once have i had a patch fail
@Marcus M not it actually dries it out to get it from a liquid that doesn’t stick that well to an almost tar like consistency to make it stick better, you don’t have to set it on fire just helps speed things up while still getting a good stick

Should have marked the valve stem location on the sidewall so you could put the tire back on it the same orientation… avoiding the balance

@@dzunglai8176 well I work at a car repair shop and it doesn't look like a freaking pig pen. It doesn't matter if you work in a repair shop or a restaurant, just take 5 min after work and at least sweep the floor
Take pride in your work and the shop you work at. Clean that floor up.
As a tire tech this is by far the worst experience I’ve ever seen 1 your bay needs to be cleaned 2 when using tire cement don’t burn it 3 when installing the patch don’t slap it in take of the sticky blue protector plastic underneath plug 4 insert plug and pull on tail once plug is flush with the inside of tire then use the roller start in the middle and work your way out do this 2 to 3 times 5 take plastic wrap on top of plug off and discard 6 use bead seal and it should be fine 7 on plug tail when done cut it flush to tire tread don’t pull on it then cut or it will leak And there you go it’s pretty easy to to
He didn’t even do it the lazy way. Mark by valve stem to avoid re blancing
As a boy who worked at his fathers tyre shop for 5 years, I approve this comment
You shouldn't do that, you're adding weight with that patch so you have to rebalance it

As a toilet cleaner, I'll say he did an awesome job. 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Woodys can do all this in 1 minute without even removing the wheel 😂
Lmao one tire shop I went to took the tire off before deflating it. (I was about 20 feet away), all you heard was “PSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHTTTTTTTTTTTT”. 😂
I didn't know that Sebastian Vettel was fixing tires in his spare time, trully a great guy
I saw him too lol
So no one noticed how he just stuck his hand in fire-
I did
No we are all blind and dumb. Sorry.
@@808G8GT dude I was being sarcastic- geez no need to be rude
None of us seen it, what's fire
Wow genius
wow, this video like movie. so creative!!
love the shows man
Let's remember, wheels that are not steel, are every other kind of alloy. When placing alloy rim on the dismount machine we should hold the rim from the outermost lip from the back side - or the inboard side of the rim. In doing so we keep from marring or (roughing up) the inner area of the rim with the machine gripping teeth that are made to hold a steel rim, where one would find sticky weights. Doing so improperly will allow corrosion to propagate. More simplified if you're going to hammer on a wheel weight from the inside of the rim, that area should be where you hold it in the machine.
Super late here but i was scrolling for this comment! Immediate fail. Never clamp an alloy wheel from the inside out.
Also, don’t just throw them on the machine like that. It was pretty painful to watch.
I remember going to this one tire store with my dad as a kid, we went there all the time. I got to see how they repair tires and replace them. Sometimes id even stay in the car. It was so cool
Damn I never got to stay in the car. Lucky. They said that it’s dangerous and I do get that but still would be cool
Love this video exactly how we did it at tires plus 😂 even got the fire right the biggest pain was getting part of the rubber in your eye
