It’s really hard to kill cockroaches. Stamping on them, chopping off their head and even flushing them down the toilet won’t work. Much like cryptocurrency-an industry which, despite some recent setbacks, seems able to bounce back when you least expect it.

  • The United States as we know it is no more. All signs point to 2024 being a year of significant economic hardship for the entire nation. Put your cash to use straight away to increase its value. I was aware that I needed to invest. I had no idea how quickly a few thousand dollars a month would go up. Though it is. Since 2020, I've made about $600,000.

    • I wholeheartedly concur; I'm 60 years old, just retired, and have about $1,250,000 in non-retirement assets. Compared to the whole value of my portfolio during the last three years, I have no debt and a very little amount of money in retirement accounts. To be completely honest, the information provided by invt-advisors can only be ignored but not neglected. Simply undertake research to choose a trustworthy one.

    • Certainly, there are a handful of experts in the field. I've experimented with a few over the past years, but I've stuck with ‘’AILEEN GERTRUDE TIPPY” for about five years now, and her performance has been consistently impressive.She’s quite known in her field, look-her up.

  • The only way it can fail is if the value drops to zero, and a lot of people believe crypto is worth more than zero. Absolutely true, but doesn't that describe fiat currency as well?

    • If the government demands taxes to be paid in its currency, the value will never drop to zero as there will always be a demand.

    • @@gavingavinchan Technically true, because the government is coercing demand, so there is a way that government can force a currency to be worth something. But the actual value of fiat currencies in the real world is not driven by this. I mean, if we want to express totally unrealistic scenarios, yes, but all the people could move away, making government mandates irrelevant. That's also a highly unrealistic possibility. And if one looks at historic cases of extreme hyperinflation, like Zimbabwe hyperinflation in 2008 or the Hungarian hyperinflation of 1946, enforced demand through taxes did not keep those fiat currencies from failing.

    • @@jrhoadley The real value of fiat currency is definitely driven by the economics of the parent country. If the country's economic state or monetary policy fails then the currency will fail as well. Crypto has no such backing and is thus purely speculative.

  • I’m surprised to see the Economist started on such a wrong footing! The illicit activities involving crypto currencies are small by comparison to fiat currencies and the banking system. This video sounded like the Economist is the part of the establishment who feared their business being eroded by crypto. Not the kind of neutral stance I used to see from this newspaper!

  • I respect and hold the economist in high regards but this video is more comedy then proper journalism. Absolutely no facts just opinions and just being biased. Every asset in the world is priced according to their demand. Yes I do agree there are a lot of shitcoins and one should not invest all their money into it. But please do some research and investigation in the industry itself. You’re sounding like someone who says who needs a mobile phone because we have phone booths or I just pass by. Yes western world it might be less interesting as we have an proper banking system, also not perfect. But as long as their are more people with mobile phones then bank accounts in this world, crypto has a purpose. Especially in areas where people don’t have that much freedom or technology. For example crypto coin Celo where the Gates foundation is involved in/was with the goal to design a digital/mobile payment system for rural Africa. Also saying crypto is for criminals ain’t correct either as transactions can be traced on the blockchain and with KYC its more transparent than cash. There are always loopholes in every system. Book I recommend to read is: Our money is broken by the brothers Slagter. Is crypto/blockchain technology the next dominant thing probably not, does it has a purpose definitely.

  • My advice to everyone is this: if you want to grow big this year especially in your finances. Be willing to take risks. Saving is great but taking risks puts you on a pedestal where you wouldnt have to worry about savings as you do now. Thanks to Liliana Pena, my port folio is doing really great and im proud of the decisions i made last year.
