Air War in Ukraine - Black Weekend for Russian Air Force (DCS World)

2022 ж. 10 Нау.
78 214 Рет қаралды

In three days, losses of Russian aircraft seem to have increased. Concrete evidence was presented by the Ukrainian side for at least four fixed wing aircraft and three helicopters. Does this mean that Russians are increasing the tempo of their operations? Or are they just applying inadequate tactics, using their most advanced fighter-bombers such as Su-34 as bomb trucks.
But, Russians are still launching a large number of cruise and ballistic missiles. And they also claim a large number of Ukrainian aircraft shot down by their forces.
In this video, you will be able to see how some of these shootdowns might have looked like.

  • The aircraft shot down over Kharkiv turned out to be a Su-34. Photos of a wreckage with registration number RF-95070 appeared and one crewmember was captured. He said he belonged to 47th Aviation Regiment form Voronezh. The weapon used for the shootdown is believed to be SA-11 Buk. Which is exactly what was used for this reenactment.

Thanks again, for the unbiased recreation of the events. The only thing that looked bad was the famous video of the mi24 being shot down. The actual shot was from the right side of the helicopter and not infront of the helicopter, but I understand the limitations of the map and the simulator.

  • Something I’ve noticed about the Ruusky air war; They aren’t using multi capable air mission ‘packages’, as we Americans do, such as Wild Weasels in 1st to defeat AA radar, plenty of high & low escorts of bombers, etc. It’s just one, or a couple, aircraft going in. 1 aircraft, no forward jamming/ destruction of any kind of AA, & they just get a loss of pilot(s), mission critical fail. They can’t keep THAT up for very long. Their ground forces war machine is doing much, much worst, too. NATO is pouring in ~17,000 AA Personal Missiles, no idea how many anti-ANYTHING on the ground, but in both cases, they’re utterly swamping the Ruusky forces. It could be down to Ruusky artillery in a few weeks? And if the Ukes can go on the rapid offense, the Ruuskies will end up losing any artillery they’ve got in-country. ☠️🇺🇦🤞

    • Russian Air Force is quite different from USAF. They are much less independent and seen more as a support service for their ground forces. Therefore, they lack many of the capabilities that top Western powers have. They could probably not win a war on airpower alone, or mostly on airpower. Some might say they've done so in Syria, but there were more factors in play there (such as Iran's involvement). But even if Russians take all the major cities, there will be resistance and it could easily become another Afghanistan.

      @showtime112@showtime1122 жыл бұрын
    • @@showtime112 Yup. The Russians are very strange in their use of their air power as opposed to NATO nations or the US. In fact, if you read the US Army Manual called “Opposing Force Tactics” they go into great detail as to how the Russians actually primarily use helicopters for CAS instead of fixed wing assets. Which is much different than we would do in the US. The keep their helicopters 15-20 minutes flight time away from the front lines. And must be ready for takeoff within 5 minutes. They place much more emphasis on helicopters. Explains a lot of what Wev seen in Ukraine

One Ukrainian pilot did not survive the engagement, the other did RTB. Shocking the transports were not escorted. Or maybe the Ukrainian pilots used terrain masking to make surprise attacks. Obviously, more details will emerge after the war. Antonov Airport being close to Kyiv and in range of Belarus, was obviously strategic. I'm interested in how it was defended. The Ukrainians deployed manpads. What about mobile SAMs? Larger fixed SAM? Shilkas? ADA? How many Ukrainian infantry defended the airfield, a company? A Ka-52 was shot down over Hostomel on day 1. He expended at least 4 Vikhr laser missiles. What he targeted I don't know. Russia's Mi-8s looked slow and vulnerable, I'm surprised more were not shot down.

  • Russian former fighter-bomber pilot gave answer why Russia use so many non-guided bombs(sorry for using Google Translator) "Let me explain why our beautiful planes fly with cast iron(it names of non-guided bombs). The accuracy of modern sighting systems of our aircraft allows us to bomb with a conventional bomb with an accuracy quite comparable to the accuracy of guided weapons. At the same time, of course, the explosion power and the damage area of 4-10 FAB-500 is unattainable by any guided bomb on the planet. Plus, if the target is large in size, or as the military says - areal, then you will not get enough guided missiles on it. The same factory or warehouses, for example. At the same time, the holy JDAM, which we call KAB-500S, as well as, in principle, any guided weapon with known guidance systems can be interfered with, and it is impossible to interfere with cast iron. Well, the same JDAM and X-25 also need to be dragged into the enemy's air defense zone, as well as cast iron. And all guided weapons on the ground, which can be operated from afar, are called cruise missiles and gliding bombs, it costs a little less than an airplane and it's pointless and useless and very expensive to fuck up some tank column with them. Well, of course, if it's not nuclear. In order to eliminate collateral damage, yes. Can try. You can try to fuck into the battery of the MLRS "Grad" with a tiny KAB-25, and the detonation of the package of this MLRS will blow the block around. So everything is right there with our suspension. But, of course, the best option is when ammunition is selected individually and creatively for each target." P.s. i can give link of his channel in Telegram, but only if author of channel let me. It has a lot of interesting information, but only on Russian

    @user-oi2rn6qh2k@user-oi2rn6qh2k2 жыл бұрын
    • Not everything he is saying is inaccurate. CCIP bombing with modern computer calculations is very accurate when using "cast iron" bombs, and indeed, landing 4 to 10 1000lbs bombs on a target is quite destructive. CCIP is more accurate than CCRP but.... you have to release at a lower altitude and this puts you in much higher risk. Where I would disagree with him is that you could be extremely accurate with laser guided munitions, but we know that the soviets(russians) have issue with their guidance pods and don't seem to use JTAC's with designators. Also, one of my favourite video's is from the Iraq war where a JDAM takes out a soviet(russian) supplied GPS jammer. It is actually very difficult to jam GPS signals unless you deploy satellite interference to all the satellites in the network that are visible to the JDAM.... also, once the JDAM has the spot of impact downloaded to it before launch, it may not need to get updates after launch...as it would know the target co-ordinate and the launch co-ordinate so would know where it was and where it has to go without continued updates.

    • Russia has equivalent precision guided laser guided & GPS guided missiles & bombs but mostly limited to newer 4.5th generation and newer fighter bombers. Unfortunately, Russia have only numbers of them in smaller hundreds of less that have proper air to ground search and destroy avionics & electronics comparable to US F-16V, F/A-18E & F-15EX. The Su-25, Su-24 that often shot down relied on unguided rockets & bombs mostly having to engage ground targets below 2nm at low altitude vulnerable to SAM & AAA. Without FLIR targeting pod like LANTIRN/SNIPER and satellite tactical view GPS display, datalink for spotting & designating ground targets further away to launch air to ground guided missiles/bombs.

And stingers locked on to their heat signature which was their engine, that means flares arent really effective. Also, sensors make no sense if russian air force wants to waste its jets in ukraine like this, no sensor can help the pilots in that situation. Missiles can hit the plane in 3-4 seconds. Solution: dont fly at low altitudes 😂 but russian planes have to fly at low altitudes because they dont have enough guided bombs for ground targets, they are using unguided bombs.

  • There are lots of operational flaws in Russian offensive. Why do Russians head-on attack cities with BMPs, MT-LBs, T-72s without any kind of support - why do they fly in low altitude, they know there are manpads still in Ukranian forces - why do they create unprotected convoys, Ukranian planes can't fly, but there are still Bayraktar drones and they are deadly. Lots of questions to ask.

    @aeweweard@aeweweard2 жыл бұрын
    • LOL, the do not. They moved first to grab as much land as possible in biggest advancement in human history. No one did anything even close. Once they did the deep strike - their doctrine, things did calmed down. Up north they had issues as they troop quality was low & they apparently got orders so late they were as surprised as Ukrainian side. Once they did big grab they use artillery to destroy defenses and move in with infantry supported by armor. Convoys are frequently protected by helicopters same as in US. But these cannot protect against enemy's artillery. There are almost no drones left on Ukrainian side - besides once Russians got their air defenses up they moped drones off - see that 40 mile convoy? No drone touched it. Planes fly low for 3 reasons, a) Ukraine inherited lots of weapons from Soviet Union and not all these AA systems were suppressed or destroyed yet. b) Russians are cheap bastards and use dumb bombs. c) Su-25 are support aircraft, they are meant to fly low same as A-10s, only few Su-25s were upgraded to fly above 6000m.

    • @@tomk3732 Fair points. I know there is a huge propaganda in the West against Russia. And I agree, even NATO couldn't capture land this fast in 2003 in Iraq, so Russians outpace NATO by substantial margin. SU-25s, they are close support aircraft, they have to fly low. But what about those Mi-24 and Su-35? They just gave kills to Ukranians.

      @aeweweard@aeweweard2 жыл бұрын
    • @@tomk3732 Also, it is obvious that the Russians are trying to pinpoint targets, reduce civilian casulties. • I barely notice how good DCS looks when I’m flying anymore, which is a shame. It’s gone from a ‘meh/ok/workmanlike’ looking environment early last year to possibly the best sim. And even if you include MSFS, which does look great from the air and in spots that have been manually tweaked, DCS looks just as good these days, and more consistently. There’s more things to do than fly in DCS as well, including the CA ground stuff. I’m appreciating your work documenting the war, although I do understand that there’s some guesswork, as there must be considering the FoW. But despite the horror and arsehole nature of the Russian regime, I have hope that we can pull something positive out of this whole mess… as long as Russian Hitler doesn’t kill us all. And yes, Godwin’s Law is dead. Putin’s parallels with the Austrian turd are striking. The probably both had/have choads. There’s something missing there, anyway.

We know that many soviet(russian) pilots have had reduced flying time in recent years...and that lack of training will hurt you eventually. What we also don't know is the level of maintenance and supply of spares...if there are logistic problems with every thing else, there could also be problems on that front too.
