I think just bc he was scared b4 and couldn't check it they should try again

    • Rocky. I had a female malamute when I lived in Pacific Grove, California on the pacific ocean. Every time I opened the door she would run past me and out the door. Some times I wouldn't get her back for 3 days! It was so stressful. Finally I realized she needed way more space than I could provide for my beautiful Kiska. I reached out to a family who lived in Carmel Valley. They had acres of land and as hard it was to give her up I knew it was the right thing for her. I took her to this family and even though it was hard I knew she would be way happier with them. 😢😂❤

    • @@DougFox-hm1qz maybe u shouldnt open the door wide if u know your dog has potential of running rt out. I had a dog like this & I would have to check if he was behind me when I would open it & open it slowly so he wouldn't get out. I would not want my dog escaping, let alone getting hit by a car. I would loose it if my dog went missing days if it could have been avoided.

  • I have a Maine Coon cat who had been adopted and returned twice because she didn't let humans near once out of the shelter. I didn't care. I'd adopted her as a companion for my elderly male that was grieving himself to death after we lost his litter mate. She bonded with him in short order. For 3 years she wouldn't let me near her. I just let her do her thing except for vet visits. Then we lost the old male. About a week later my beautiful girl jumped up on the couch beside me. Since that day she's been the most loving cat of my 30+ years of being owned by cats. It's been SO worth the wait.

  • My wife and I rescued a dog from our local shelter who took to my wife immediately. She wanted this dog but when we got home it was obvious she didn’t like men. We assumed it was because she was mistreated in some way. One day when my wife was not home I went to pet the dog and he bit me, not deep but just broke the skin. I didn’t mistreat her just let her know it wasn’t right. It took about 4 or 5 months but she now comes up to me and lets me pet her and give her treats with no problem. I would like to spend about ten minutes in a locked room with the guy who did this to her. She’s not with us any longer because of cancer but the last part of her life was great, no stress and a big backyard. It actually makes me feel good to have helped this dog and love her.

    • I used to foster and rehabilitate chihuahuas… but due to illness had to stop…. With the tiny dog I always told adopters to use the 12 12 12 method…. They need more time for acclimation to their new home…. Little dogs can be stubborn and resent authority……. It’s ok for you to loosen the reins, because they will see you as their leader…. For knowing what they need… which is a smile, a hug and lots of kisses-all given freely with no judgement….i was never a foster fail, but being a foster strengthened me to always want to rescue…. I have a half chi, half miniature pincher right now….quesa looks like a min pin, but has a chihuahua heart and soul…. Smart as a whip, but incredibly stubborn… I focused on her good parts, and ignored her naughty side…. Took 3 years for her to decide what kind of dog she was going to be…. But I decided to love my little goofball no matter what-and I’m glad I did!!!!

      @cheryldumas953@cheryldumas9534 ай бұрын
    • @@cheryldumas953 I don't think little dogs are stubborn or rejecting authority. I think they're just scared because they're so small and weak, and people tend to just pick them up and force things on them as its so easy to do with a small dog (no one would do that to a large dog that was obviously unhappy with it for fear of getting bitten). They become reactive and handler aggressive from the constant lack of respect of their personal space they experience. I've also seen people laughing as their chihuahua guards bones from them (while the dog is snarling with teeth out and hackles up) no one would laugh when a large dog does this, they take it seriously and start training immediately.

Ppl kinda do that to all smaller animals and even people in general too, u can see it with children or even with ppl who have dwarfism. It's so weird how ppl think easy to pick up = automatically comfortable with it and being babied.

    • Great Pyrenees can be an excellent breed for specific living situations, but I caution people to do their research and not jump on the Pyrenees bandwagon just because the breed is popular right now. They're true sheepdogs, so the night-time patrolling/barking, hole digging, and massive amounts of shedding can really be too much for a lot of people. The amount of leaves and dirt alone mine brings in from outside on her fur requires quite a bit more vacuuming and sweeping each week!

  • We adopted a red-and-white border collie (~4 years old) in 2012. Unfortunately, we very nearly returned him after a couple of weeks because among other things, he wasn't quite housebroken. Eleven years on, we are so very glad we hung in there with him. He has been the best dog anyone could have asked for - loyal, obedient, calm, goofy, sweet - we are so lucky to have found him. He gave my husband something to live for during some dark times; he has quite literally been a lifesaver. He is now in the twilight of his life; his hips are bad, he's developed mild dementia, and he doesn't see very well. But he still loves riding in the car, ice cubes, and herding the cat, so we will gladly continue to take care of our precious boy until it is time to say goodbye.

  • I worked for a vet by junior and senior years of high school and a 2 y/o female malamute came in to be euthanized because she was "unsuitable" to show (a big breeder didn't want her any more). The vet worked out a deal for me to adopt her as long as I got her spayed. She was just as much a love-bug as Sonic, so I think this may be more a trait of the breed. Even sitting in a chair, she would start off with a head in the lap, then progress with one paw, then another and before you knew it, the entire fur ball would be in your lap soaking up the attention. Such a beautiful and loving animal.

  • Just like how a dog in a shelter is not the same dog as when they get out, meeting a dog in a shelter is not the same as taking them home. It can be sad for a dog to be returned, but it's also somewhat understandable. I would rather have a dog get returned than stay in a house that they don't fit in, with people who they don't fit with. And better returned than dumped. These people went through the effort of adopting a rescue dog, I am sure they were just as sad that it wasn't going to work out.

  • I grew up with Huskys, my father had a sleddog team. My mother remembers a time when we had more than 30 dogs. They are all goofs. There was no snow for a long time, so since he couldn't race them most of them had to be sold. but one went to my grandfather, and another we kept. The one my grandfather had lived until the ripe age of 22 (very old for a husky), the one we kept made it until 16. We also had cats, pretty sure by the end since he was with them all the time he thought he too was a cat. 90 pounds trying to climb in your lap like a cat. I am so happy for Sonic, that he went to a family who will know to give him enough exercise and attention.

I did not see you respond to his comment, but noticed immediately you started sitting beside the dog. You still use your technique of not looking some of them directly in the eye to begin with, but you have been sitting beside the pups. I love this. I love in life that we can adapt and change and make things safer for all. When someone gets the attitude of knowing it all and refusing to adapt, sometimes unnecessary events happen. Thank you for all you do, and always learning and growing.

Alcohol and felony drug history, her dogs are everything to her and every one suffers because she can't give them up. You think she is bad because they are so neglected. But they were thrown away by others first. Not spayed or neutered. The little elderly dog had puppies by a pitcross, suffered no vet care during delivery of oversized pups, had to go through their deaths she couldn't feed them. Can't tell you how awful it all is. All dogs supposed to be surrendered to the shelter and no enforcement over weeks

She became the sweetest, most loving dog I've ever known, but she didn't start that way. SHe was basically terrified. I think she had been returned to the breeder, but we loved her to pieces.
