It really does not seem like Twitch itself has had a battle with nudity etc. To me, it feels like viewers and sponsors working their ass off to make Twitch realize this is not acceptable for a site such as theirs, and twitch plugging their ears for as long as they can, untill they start losing money and have to make a statement.

I think what’s been the most frustrating of all for me was how artists got fucked over in the process. The reason the meta was introduced in the first place was for artistic nudity and even then it was pretty stringent about no genitals. And of course the new innovations of bad actors PLUS the lack of (or I guess now, DELAYED) moderation on Twitch led everything to spiral down. Idk I feel like these “new” features should’ve already existed on the platform. Lud’s absolute right that it’s very much a “Catch Me If You Can” situation lmfao.

Twitch has to REALLY enforce that shit, or it wont be the end. Even then, it's insane that that content is on the same website as normal gaming streams. I was thinking about this before I watched the video, and I feel like the only way they could get rid of that content is banning advertising for other websites on their platform. That would come with its own issues, though, like sponsored streams being banned. I think it's just something that has to be accepted as a norm on twitch now.

@@fart63 Yeah I get your point. The problem is where do you draw the line? Sure those who are naked on the stream are definitely producing sexual content. But what if, for example, a female streamer simply wears something slightly explicit while doing normal content(like that piano girl). Do we enforce some dress code for female streamers? That would be unfair to them, right? Cuz male streamers would have more freedom in terms of dress code. So let's say we enforce the same dress code to all genders. But that would create a new problem: now some types of content revolving around cosplays would not be allowed on Twitch (for example male streamers wearing cat maid costumes), which are perfectly normal content but wouldn't be allowed under the dress code. This is a made-up example but the gist is it's just hard to draw the line.

Finally something good from this entire saga. My personal view is that Twitch has transformed ages ago (just to the people still somehow thinking it's a gaming platform despite all the categories completely unrelated to gaming), but it got out of control and turned into a alternative soft corn streaming website on some channels. Am I wrong? I feel like the blurred thumbo is gonna increase viewership (by a small % at least). I feel like if you're a coomer searching for something to goon to, a blurred image that can be unblurred by one click isn't gonna stop you. And once you do open the stream to see if it's sometime you're interested in, the streamer has more control in making sure you stay. Honestly the unskippable ad at the beginning is a bigger deterrent. I can't imagine someone deciding what to watch, seeing one thumbnail that's unblurred but slightly suggestive and one that is blurred and more suggestive, and that forcing the decision towards the unblurred streamer.

Fact of the matter is i still open up their site and majority of the content on the browse page is still "18+..." And all sorts of sexual content. Nothing has changed and its just become the popular thing now to try and get away with it in whatever way they can. Ir feels like it will be a while until this meta actually dies

Twitch has to REALLY enforce that shit, or it wont be the end. Even then, it's insane that that content is on the same website as normal gaming streams. I was thinking about this before I watched the video, and I feel like the only way they could get rid of that content is banning advertising for other websites on their platform. That would come with its own issues, though, like sponsored streams being banned. I think it's just something that has to be accepted as a norm on twitch now.

It's a super tough question: How do you make sure explicit content won't be seen by unwanted audiences, especially underaged folks, while allowing the maximum amount of freedom of expression, when it's hard to define what is explicit or not in the first place, when you have to do all of these moderations in real-time(cuz they're live streams).
I think the clear option is just not feeling the need to allow the maximum amount of freedom and personal expression. This is not something that’s necessary for a media platform to run.

@@fart63 Yeah I get your point. The problem is where do you draw the line? Sure those who are naked on the stream are definitely producing sexual content. But what if, for example, a female streamer simply wears something slightly explicit while doing normal content(like that piano girl). Do we enforce some dress code for female streamers? That would be unfair to them, right? Cuz male streamers would have more freedom in terms of dress code. So let's say we enforce the same dress code to all genders. But that would create a new problem: now some types of content revolving around cosplays would not be allowed on Twitch (for example male streamers wearing cat maid costumes), which are perfectly normal content but wouldn't be allowed under the dress code. This is a made-up example but the gist is it's just hard to draw the line.

Finally something good from this entire saga. My personal view is that Twitch has transformed ages ago (just to the people still somehow thinking it's a gaming platform despite all the categories completely unrelated to gaming), but it got out of control and turned into a alternative soft corn streaming website on some channels. And these "some channels" started to become a larger proportion, just mixed in with everything else.

Am I wrong? I feel like the blurred thumbo is gonna increase viewership (by a small % at least). I feel like if you're a coomer searching for something to goon to, a blurred image that can be unblurred by one click isn't gonna stop you. And once you do open the stream to see if it's sometime you're interested in, the streamer has more control in making sure you stay. Honestly the unskippable ad at the beginning is a bigger deterrent. I can't imagine someone deciding what to watch, seeing one thumbnail that's unblurred but slightly suggestive and one that is blurred and more suggestive, and that forcing the decision towards the unblurred streamer.

Thank fucking god In the past I could keep adult content off my twitch home page as long as I stay logged in, but ever since the twitch meta started theyve been creeping into my recommended even though I have never once interacted with any of those channels Itd be nice too if they wipe the clips from the twitch meta off the site too so they no longer get autoplayed when Im just chilling watching smash clips or something

This is what pissed me off when the Hot tub meta was happening and people were saying maybe we should have less sexual content on twitch and everyone called you an incel for saying that, now look at twitch. I literally only open twitch on the following tab to avoid this. Just out of curiosity after watching this video I went to the Just Chatting tab and I kid you not 9 out of the top 15 streams in there were of sexual nature. Twitch just straight up does not care to / does not know how to moderate their website.
