Two decades after streaming music piracy threatened the music industry, and after concerns about AI prolonged Hollywood strikes, a number of artists and music labels are embracing AI tools that replicate and manipulate artists' voices. CNBC's Sr. Media & Tech Reporter Julia Boorstin joins 'Squawk Box' with a look at how AI is impacting the music industry.
Guardrails? This is a tide we're dealing with. Good luck with guard rails.
I love how they just quickly push past the one woman coming to realize "How is this going to help smaller artists? Seems like it's only going to benefit the top artists?!". Props to her trying to bring a point we should be talking about, but wont.
Hope these broadcasters realize that the combination of sora like models and GPT audio will render them obsolete. Pretty simple to create the broadcast without real people
people are already using it to create scam videos using even the prime minister of canada to scam people 🤣🤣🤣🤣
AI is going after low end, easily replicated work, including entertainment. Modern music and films are so unoriginal, they are prime for disruption....
For now, yes,, but obviously the AI will only get better. Eventually, we'll have new AI Beatles and Mozart songs.
Until AI is better, faster, cheaper and safer than all human labour... then everything gets disrupted.
@@TheHonestBroker But, they won't be "Beatles" or "Mozart", they will just be regurgitated composites of their past work. Thats it. Boring after the novelty wares off.
This is the end of NEW ARTISTS. The current ones will win a ton of money with royalties, but new artists will not be necessary anymore.
This kinda thing cannot be stopped. It reminds me of when the Internet itself was taking off. Sure, the music industry will try to get out ahead, but eventually it won't matter. Free Open Source versions of these softwares will out compete them. And it will be a great thing for what the average individual will be able to create. Although, the bigger picture is, the idea that people need to have a traditional job, just to survive, needs to go the way of the dinosaurs.
True but unfortunately I don't think the rich and powerful would be ready to give up a system in which they found success in even though it means the common man suffers
It has to because AI and robots will simply be cheaper than all human labour. We need a new social contract ASAP!
Tell me what people are supposed to do when they have no hobby or job?
@@Iusedtohavemojo What exactly do you think would prevent people from having a hobby? Just because the things I do for a hobby, can be done better by other people or even large companies, doesn't stop me from doing them. Also, our definition of what a "job" is, must change. There's a lot of work to be done in communities that typically wasn't considered a real job, and certainly wasn't paid, so most people couldn't put any time into that. Maybe people will be able to focus more on those "jobs".
I enjoy how main stream media is a year behind AI
K-Pop idol factories and production houses will save a lot of money with AI music creation. The Pandora's box has been opened and there will be a lot of poor/ unemployed young people due to AI taking jobs
It's really fascinating to watch these minds, and those in the industry, try to process what is happening. They keep trying to make the new tech fit into old ideas like royalities, "stars" and even a music "industry" when clearly all those things are being washed away before our very eyes. At least one presenter could understand the concept of custom made music populating our individual playlists. The next step is to realise "artists" will be created by individuals on their home computer.
She was the only one that seemed to exhibit genuine concern while the others played it off in their classic talking head goof-ball monotony. CNBC at its finest. 😏
In the future they might introduce some sort of microprofits, similar to what they did for sampling.
@Interdimensionaltravelagent I have a friend who is a musician and singer, so I certainly hope something like that could occur. And then I saw a demo of Suno . . .
Why wait for KZhead when you can create AI music with Suno V3 right now?
😂🙈 suno ai is the biggest W
I'm already creating music in Suno, but TBH V3 has been a total fustercluck. Not nearly as good as V2 or V3 Alpha in terms of voice clarity, instruments, etc. I have a channel on KZhead called Urban Decay Union where I publish Suno songs (most of them with my own lyrics).
I gave it a shot and tried to use it and it created multiple copies and said i was out of credits. i wanted to see how it sounded before i finshed creating my song about lunch and having a sandwhich 🤣🤣. It could have gone better but maybe if in future they do a better job and get a better free trial system so you can hear what you are trying to create before they cut you off. i went looking for a similar program but could not find anything with ai voice like that to use so i could create my own silliy songs for entertainment.
@@rickystarduster Ham and cheese ham and cheese with a little mustard please Just a squeeze, if you please Can’t wait to eat my ham and cheese 😁
Dream track apparently uses real artist voices. Suno voices are very good but generic
Bring back Blinda Carlisle, The Carpenters, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey (in her prime), Britney Spears (in her prime), Debbie Gibson (in her prime), Tears for Fears, John Lennon, Olivia Newton John, Sheena Easton, Irene Cara, Roxette!, Laura Branigan, Rita Coolidge, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Faye Wong, Judy & Mary, Van Halen, Heart, Billy Ocean, Phil Collins, Men without Hats, *NSYNC, Amy Grant, Kim Carnes, Pat Benatar, Kool & the Gang, Tracy Huang, Peter Cetera, Maroon 5, and many, many, many, many more (just some on top of my head). I'D PAY to LISTEM TO THEM again, again, and again, NEW SONGS composed by A.I indistinguishable from original singers in their PRIME.
I dont know. Ive kind of got that S&P song in my head now :XX
it is the age of everyone being the artist and dj.
Sounds exciting'DreamTrack' seems very impressive 💯
Wait for Google to release something in five years, or use Suno today 🤔
Google has one, too. I forgot the name. Just Google it.
"Today's music ain't got the same soul, I like that old time rock n' roll" - Bob Seger
"Julia Boorstin" is an anagram for "Journalist Bio", "Bijou Tar Loins", or if you prefer, "joos Built Iran". o/
On the creator side, what I’ve seen is AI drums, AI synthesizers, AI mixing tools. The best use I’ve seen so far, is mixing plug-ins that were developed with AI assistance, although the other things are interesting
Suno makes prettg amazing full songs and its so easy to use ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Human replacement has just begun...
Gingers on the desk!! That red dress is smashing.
Creating an album in a day... warp speed 👍❤️
Soulless. There’s no one behind the voice
soullessness doesn't matter. As long as it sounds catchy, it's good as pop songs...😁😁😁
They can tranquil tryst. They can sing like sirens. Allure tone is melancholic to seductive. I wanna hear that pitch.
sMV has lots of examples of fun pop music.
Where’s Andrew? Did he quit?
AI is about as much creative fun as pressing the demo button on a keyboard. Learn an instrument, understand the deeper beauty of music-it will be one of the most rewarding things life has to offer you. A gift for life. Peace out.
You can already make your own songs on Suno, I wonder where that is legally.
Oh please.
Suno is the way to go
How Ai is transforming the music industry - Negatively.
Its always sad when artistry dies in the hands of new technology
Grimes will split royalties with them? Ok Grimes you can have 8%, how does that sound.
@RealCharlieHufft what exactly did she do other than let an A.I. duplicate her vocal signature. The other party did 92% of the work.
True Story: Several famous singers back in the 80's thought their careers were gonna be ruined by getting replaced by trained Parrot technology that was advancing by leaps and bounds at the time. I still have a bootleg cassette of a Parrot Madonna performance Live from The Budokan I got from some guy in Taiwan.
Like the Gorillaz, the most popular artists of the future won't be real people, they will be some AI fantasy band. Impersonating well-known aritists is almost already obsolete from conception.
Sadly you're correct except the Gorillaz are real people. 😊
@@mrr5835 Of course, but like Albarn's character-band
I gave my friend permission to clone my voice on a website so it doesn't bother me. I get a laugh out of it. They used a karaoke backing track on a 30 to 40 year old country song and put me with a musician no longer alive and I got a laugh out of it.
Count me out. Nice invention doe
human creativity R.I.P
im glad my gen never had that
2:09 this is AI
Suno doesn’t need famous vox. There’s already 10+ song creation app/ services- do some research.
music fx is the best
Lol, please. AI music has been out for a while...in fact, most people have been using A.I. for many things. I love that A.I. music helps you bring things into a better spectrum. Most people who hate A.I. are insecure because they feel like they are being replaced when all they need to do is learn how to be innovative. A.I. was made by humans...and thinking it will "replace" them screams..."I watch too much Sci-Fi"..) The most powerful instrument is the brain (well, at least for some people...😑)....
Drake kendrick diss track brought me here…….anyone else
what's crazy is that anybody thinks that music is good
Check out suno AI. It IS honestly good
Have you listened to AI covers? They're the best, I listened to one of Frank Sinatra singing in Japanese.
“Good” music isn’t that hard to make on a fundemental basis. There’s a lot of tricks artists use over and over again to create “earworms” and catchy tunes. It’s easy to replicate, once you know the tricks. It hasn’t taken AI much time to master them.
earworms are the opposite of good music @@bobbykanae
Wharever happens in the world, musicians get the biggest hit. Internet, corona, AI…
It should be mandated by law, that any media content containing AI generated sound, picture or text should be clearly labeled for the user.
You don't think song writers won't use AI and take credits for them?
And should not generate income or royalties. There needs to be a limit. Like 25%+, no royalties.
Why? If this were the 90s, would you have argued all images edited with photoshop should have been labeled?
Just label what is man-madeinstead, like a quality certification.
@@NikoKun In a word, YES.
Ai music is a fun, but if you genuinely enjoy it, you need an IQ test. A simple pop song with three chords in 4/4 should be something Ai can handle. Ai cannot write a complex piece of music that can create a purposefully made emotive response. That why Ai music is garage.
Music was already fake. Artists charge ridiculous prices for tickets to shows that aren't even played live. So-called studio recordings use a lot of computer trickery. Something to be said for someone who can just pick up an instrument and play. Shouldn't even need electricity.
This just makes it faker. A corporate computer imitating the heart and soul of a person.
Ai is turning music into a soulless entity
Oh they receive a few millions less? Should I care? If in a society Taylor Swift gets a billion dollar for singing and a teacher has to struggle, there is something fundamentally wrong! AI or no AI.
It’s AI or Die!!!!
Most of the money artists make is through live performances; ai can't do that yet.
uhmm what about Hatsune Miku Live? kzhead.info/sun/ncylZcWeg3eBl6c/bejne.html
Because the artists voice is the only important thing!? 😡🤦
Real musicians and real artists will always be needed. AI will never replace that now maybe in the next 100 years.
They were never needed in the first place
The music industry is in trouble because of Suno V3.
It’s going to be a Wild West, Web 2.0 is a Wild West still. All the AI generated music will do is further empower corporations and people with a lot of money in the first place. It takes a fortune to gain access to these services - it’ll cost a fortune in services instead of gear…then you’ll be left with no talent once the services are taken away. It’ll be good for those with talent and vision but Disney supposedly has that and is failing miserably right now. The only chance anyone has is making a REALLY stunning piece of work, with or without AI. Still up in the air about it… bottom line is Capitalism is going to struggle to adapt.
All of it sounds lifeless if people into lifeless Art go for it
$LMWR
I am not wondering why. All modern mainstream "music" sounds like a c r a p.
I cant wait till AI is the only famous person ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
AI wont replace the best. AI is more skilled than average and above average creators, but it's not better than the best. It's just not, and it never will be because it "cant" be. AI will impress all untrained ears and eyes. But anyone legitimately the best can outperform an AI.
Umg no! U m g whyyyy????
No ones using it. Don't force them. Go away.
When will AI pick stocks for us?😂
Tik-tokisation of Music Industry.
Guardrails lfmao
Pretty soon, we can choose AI-generated news anchors to tell us news and jocke on the morning shows. So maybe George Clooney will tell us about the stock market, and Taylor Swift will tell us about the situation in Gaza. 🤣🤣
Suno is better
every song it makes sounds the same
@@dortmall Most of the songs you create don't sound as good or catchy as you would like but there is a handful that actually sound really good. I've messed around with suno AI and have a few that I really like that I would consider close to professional but you have to go through hundreds of creations to get them sometimes. And it does seem easier to get better sounding songs determined on what style of song and lyrics you have. If its a Country music song I seem to get far better results but If its a Heavy Metal song it takes far longer or that's been the case for me anyways.
🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈
By disrupt, you mean destroy. AI will destroy all of the creative arts and leave humanity poorer. All so that a few rich people can get even richer for a short while.
Better start learning some real skills people.
What skills ? Like learning to paint it takes only decades of training what AI can do in seconds... this is happening and it will get ugly before it gets better for humans
Not everyone can do time wasting passionless jobs that's why they do what they love like music or singing, but now it's getting hard
@@NotKZhead-cp3qg 99.99% of people don't have the ability to create any kind of music that people would want to listen to or let alone pay for, so AI should help at least a small few of them cobble together something that resembles music, even if it has no real emotion or substance to it, but that is already the case in most music today.
Find sump'm else to do. When your time is up, it's up. The world never needed musicians.
This is so corny. I hope music producers only use this as an idea machine or inspiration, not a real song that you publish. Or for us normies, a bunch of meme music content
I hope music producers don't use it as all
AI will make everything exciting for 5 years and worthless after we get over the initial thrill.
Not even 5 years, a few months ...
BAAAAAARRRRRFFFFFFFFFF 🤮
Awful simply awful
What garbage our world is becoming. I dont want f^%$# ai music. this sucks.
Lets be honest though how much modern day music made by human artist is actually good? Same goes with movies and video games. Most music I like is from the past from the 80's to early 2000's I can't even name most modern songs If I tried.
AI sounds like garbage.
🤓🤡💩
So does most music coming out these days...
You probably think it always will too. 🤡
@@BitBlink walk to the nearest mirror and take a good look at yourself 🤡

No respect for music as a cultural expression of human life. Just glossy endless imitations from here on out. Eliminating that pesky creative class that sometimes rises up to challenge the hierarchy
