You really need to make a better video than this; something more in depth. EG. Many people believe that climate change is a hoax. So we ask the question: Does Climate Change affect the rich and powerful. Yes, it does. It affects every creature on the planet. Then Climate change is not a conspiracy theory. It doesn't work so well in that instance; not if you know that climate change is real. The truth is that a dedicated conspiracy theorist will turn every argument you make their way. Cancer cure suppression would affect everyone, of course, but the conspiracy theorist would just turn that argument around and say that the rich/powerful person that died of cancer was just not a part of the inner circle of rich and powerful, or some such nonsense. I don't have the ultimate fool-proof way to detect bullshit, and this video, though excellent as usual, doesn't offer the right answer to this dilemma.

@Kurzgesagt - In a Nutshell this video needs to be unlisted - there are no sources attached and the overall info quality of this video is inferior to what you're aiming to achieve in your current videos I played this today to my dad, hoping to see an overview of the general scientific consensus on conspiracy theories. I did this blindly, without pre-watching the video - after seeing your update video about you taking care of the quality of all of the videos available on your channel, I thought I can trust you about the content quality - the hell was I wrong! plz fix we'd be glad to receive a new video that would cover this topic more thoroughly and deeply, though

Ok, it seems like everyone is taking this one waaaay too seriously. This video is not supposed to be a well researched science video. It was a light-hearted bonus video we did for fun, with a bit of social commentary. Please relax everyone. It is kind of nice to see that we have set a standard for ourselves that makes it hard to make just for fun videos without real substance. But we still would like to do that from time to time because it is kind of relaxing. Maybe we should have seen it coming - "real" videos again next year.

The most interesting thing is not to reveal a conspiracy theory but to find its origin and to understand, how this came up, why people believe in it, what is wrong with it and what is right. This is how one can learn and develop tolerance for people "thinking differently".

Wanted to release the virus into a bat colony in China. And then spray an aerosolized vaccine onto the bats for testing. It's not a clone if your genetic material creates or is used in the making of a new/separate species. You could say some of his DNA was cloned perhaps, as I mean technically each of our cells is a general clone of all of the other cells containing DNA within us, except with slight deviations and differences between them due to the nature of DNA replication and maintenance.

I follow the pirate's rule: "Three can keep a secret if two are dead." The more people who must keep their mouths shut for it to be true, the less likely it is to be possible, ESPECIALLY when those who have to keep quiet are the victims and not the perpetrators.
A conspiracy doesn't have to be a secret to be a conspiracy. If conspiracy theories are correct, everyone knows about them, no one just wants to do anything about them.

This has been one of my central reasons for debunking a lot of stuff too. If more than like a dozen people need to maintain a lie, chances are it's a bullshit conspiracy.
@@Swampsong117 that's not what makes a conspiracy good or not. You can do a lot of things and finish goals under everyone's noses and still win, per se. A conspiracy succeeds when it meets its goals, not whether it is kept secret or not. Besides, most people who know of a significant conspiracy can't stop them or won't. If COVID is a conspiracy, all the conspiracy theorists can do is mouth off on the internet and do videos and do small scale riots, but they can't stop governments. (Just an example, I don't actually think COVID is a conspiracy, at least in the normal sense). And the things that are confirmed conspiracy theory, like the Tuskegee experiments, we call history, not conspiracy.

So i get the logic behind this video, and I really don't want to sound like I am giving credit to all these bogus conspiracy theories, but this feels like a really bad way of accepting/denying information. It basically comes down to an idea that "the rich are in the know, and the poor never are". Truth is, rich and VERY powerful people fall for, or even create/perpetuate bogus conspiracies all the time. Rich people are still people. Like I said, I am sure there is some truth to this, rich people have more connections and thus more access to information. But it also encourages that people should "do what rich people do" and "believe what rich people believe" simply because they are rich.
Exactly! For example, many rich people would totally ignore an apocalypse, similiar to how global warming is ignored. I think it comes down to two things: 1. Denial. An apocalypse is scary. 2. Depending on how the world ends, they might be the least or last effected. Like with Global warming. I don't think the world would end *soon* but there's no rich people radar to tell us that
It's just another way of asking "Who benefits?" Generally, the answer _would be_ the rich, so Kurzgesagt just skipped to that part. If the goal is to make money, then the perpetrator obviously will sell to the rich. If the goal is not to make money, then it's in that category of "doesn't work for this premise". Your hypothesis reads too much into it.

If rich/powerful people ignore it that means climate change is not real.
A lot of things - and climate change is a prime example - do not affect rich people in any comparable way to poor or even normal people.

If you were rich and old, you would not really have to care about climate change, because it won´t affect you that much in your own lifetime. Climate change is more likely to affect upcoming generations, who rich people living in the now don´t really have to care about. Besides, even if they were affected, they would in the first place have the money to move in a bunker, buy enough water for a lifetime, buy coolers, own waterplantages whatsoever. So they would not be affected that much at all, because they are still rich and can buy safety. Another thing, imagine you were rich and had the possibility to use that money for climate change purposes. Why would you use your own money whilst all the other people don´t give a damn? It would not feel fair. So there are a lot of reasons not to care about climate change when you´re rich if it does actually exist.
@@heinzrich also saying climate change isn´t real is just ignorant. There are enough data and pictures that proof that climate change is real. For example.. just look at pictures of glaciers all around the world and how they shrank in the last 100 years. It´s absolutely clear and visible.
Most of those conspiracies revolve around rich people trying to harm regular people but people who believe in such theories forget that rich people rely on regular people for money and that the more people there are, the more rich people can grow their income.

All you need to debunk most conspiracies is a good grasp of how to critically think and how logic works. The rest largely takes care of itself.
Yeah, like the "cure for cancer". cancers are incredibly diverse, you could almost say each of them is unique. Assuming there can be a single cure for all cancers isn't much less ridiculous than expecting a pill that can cure every disease.
Rather disappointing video. Not here to say any of the theory's are / are not true but the reasoning in this video was unintelligent and short sighted.

They haven't roasted anyone but themselves. The only thing this video deserves is a facepalm. Now don't get me wrong, i am as far from a conspiracy nut as you can get (hell i even made a website debunking trump's electoral fraud claims through mathematical evidence, complete with an election simulation written in JS), but the whole "do rich people...?" argument is absolute inane nonsense that you can tear down in about 30 seconds. Kurzgesagt's team is good at making animations, and that's the end of it. When it comes to critical thinking and analysis you're better of going to the nearest pub and chat with the drunkest bar pillar you can find, than listen to Kurzgesagt.

Sounds pretty conspiratorial to me- but the biggest problem is many of the conspiracy theories talked about are about reptilians, which subconsciously primes you to dismiss legitimate conspiracy.
The interesting thing about chemtrails is that the US government has actually admitted to, in the past, using airplanes for weather control experiments via chemical dispersion. I don't know if they still do that or not, but it is an interesting little factoid.

Too specific to apply to all things, this one applies to MOST and is good enough, which means you would need a stage-based one, rather than a multiple-filter one.
Which is pretty sad, considering one of the goals of this video was to debunk people "promoting ignorance." The over simplified method in this also promotes ignorance through ease of misuse. On top of that, the general ban on conspiracy is extremely dangerous at every level -- even though there are so many laughably incorrect, and high profile, theories. For instance: politicians not doing what they said they'd do when elected. If there were no conspiracy, that would mean that all the politicians in the world are simply fickle people who tend to change their minds a lot. In reality its much more common that the elected official has other things they want outside the good of the populace, but needed to lie to the populace to achieve those goals. The group with secret, harmful plans in this case may include a large portion of the party, a single politician working with a company, etc. I've been watching Kurzgesagt for a couple hours now, and this has been the only one so far to disappoint. Its an unfortunate black mark, as far as I'm concerned
