I understand the joke but aren't wireless controllers banned
@@pee9070 idk
Zoats how come
There's a lot that can go wrong with wireless controllers. For example, someone can connect to the switch with a wireless controller and do a match, then forget to unpair the controller. Then they can accidentally or intentionally disrupt the match.
PRO TIP! The gamecube adapter only needs the black usb to be plugged in, the gray one is for the rumble features.

That switchable stick on the PDP controller is sheer genius. Still recall the old thumbstick friction burn from using the GameCube controller back in the day. Thanks for letting me know about this so I can now go and get one.
Please do a re-review of these controllers after one year of use, which ones have lasted this long and which ones stopped working 6 months after purchasing (looking at you,Power-A)

3:40 the grey USB plug is just for rumble you do not need to plug both of them into the switch
And there's an extra USB port on the back
@@ysgatora9287 Most people use that for a wired connection as I am currently using.
If you have a USB hub, you can connect it to the back and connect multiple wired controllers
Correct, the controller adapter functions properly using 1 usb port, meaning you can use 2 adapters on a single switch if you're willing to overlook the rumble which realistically who really cares that much about?
I think the rumble is more important than the controls
Thanks for reviewing these controllers man. Really saved me a lot of time effort for researching these. Love your stuff.
Im fine with the Joycon grip, especially my Power A grip (better for adult hands, since it's wider) but I've really grown accustomed to playing with the SN30 8bitDo controller. The gamecube adapter ONLY requires using the black USB cable, the other is for rumble. So if you have 2 adapters, you can rock 8 gamecube controllers.
Aaron not all heroes wear capes.
although I can't speak to the official Nintendo adapters (either Wii U or Switch) with the mayflash adapter - an extremely popular 3rd party alternative - this isn't true and if you only use one cable then having multiple GC controllers plugged into it will cause their inputs to overlap; e.g on char select screen me and my buddy were both moving the same hand when we tried this.
HalfEatenBurrito that doesn’t happen to me and I have the same adapter...
@@Henry-qt3py how odd, we were attempting to do 8 player smash with 6 joycons and 2 gc controllers when the issue occurred. I assumed it was the adapter's fault because when i plugged the other cable in the issue ceased, however it's possible it was just the system being confused by the sheer number of controllers plugged into it. The switch is impressively powerful but it's still a portable console.
Thanks for your video. I appreciate your work. The controller you mentioned at 9:21 has been the best one for me because of its size/weight/reliability. I bought a PDP Sonic controller, whilst I bought the Mario one for my friend. But I have a bone to pick with PDP. Both of our “A” buttons stick. And mine just happened after 1-2 weeks of playing. So my pretty sonic controller is just sitting around for its looks right now. It was $60 brand new and hard to find. I’m a sonic Mainer so I was so happy to find sonic themed controller and I wasn’t mad that it costed $20 more than my friends Mario controller. But as you said, the “A” button is the focus of the right side of the controller. Not happy at all. Have been trying noninvasive cleaning to fix it. But nothing works, because it’s not dirty. I’ll be calling them up to see what they will do. And I’ll advise if there’s any feedback. Does your “A” button stick from time to time on your Zelda PDP controller?
Love this channel Bob, you and the Team do a Smashing job all round.

I had a feeling there was some input lag here and there; I've been using the Bowser themed Pro Controller for awhile and while I do love it, I think I might go with the Zelda PDP controller as I feel for me personally, especially in competitive setting (if you really wanna get serious that is) that every second matters and the lower response time I feel would make me do better. 8.5 is a huge leap from 7.5. Not only that, but as someone whose used the Gamecube controller since Melee, I love it all around and it has such a nice comfortable feel. I have noticed that switching over to the Pro Controller does give me a rather awkward feel so it makes sense to swap eitherway. But hey, I figured I'd give a different controller a try right? See if it worked or not and it did to a point sure, but, doesn't exactly feel the same.
Hows it been for you so far?
I have the pdp one, and I've been using as my main controller. It's so nice. I really love it! The reason I'm doing this is because my pro controllers left stick is dragging really badly. So it's unusable. And apparently every single pro controller has this problem, so I didn't want to shell out another 70 dollars for a doomed controller. I was using an Xbox one controller with the 8bitdo adapter, but it only stays connected for about 30 minutes and takes longer to connect. A ps4 connects faster and for longer, but it kept making my switch shut down completely. So I'm extremely with my pdp gamecube controller. Plus I main link in smash so it's cool that it has that design. Thank you for reading my novel!
Nothing’s worse than being the one who gets the Wii remote without nunchucks. I’ll take the JoyCon over that torture any day.

I got that same PDP controller, as I prefer wired controllers. A few problems I had with it were that the joystick area is huge compared to the other controllers. You have to move the stick roughly 50% further to fully tilt. Also, the most glaring problem, after about a month of playing with it, tilting the left stick to the right to walk, made me instead... attack left... And taping left made me walk slowly. I'm not rough with my controllers at all, and that thing broke almost immediately. I'm using the wireless controller now and have had no issues. 👍

Great job, purchased the one you recommended due to my pro controller directional stick not working well after 4 months of hard play. I first thought it was simply due to me or my thumb or something. However, the new controller proves this is no way the case. It is smoot and works well. While the pro controller does not any more. The only thing I don't like is it is noisy yep noisy...the buttons and make loud clicking noises etc. just like the game cube controller but not as bad. Also but the sticks the top part comes off and during some aggressive play mine popped off in the middle of the match ...going to have to super glue or something. Thanks for the review!
I picked a GameCube remote from hori today and it feels great. Took some time to get used to but with this remote I can use certain characters better!
The OG GameCube controller will start your shield right when you press it, don’t have to press all the way down so travel time won’t matter on smash.
Yeah, those shoulder triggers don't poll strictly at 1 or 0, instead traveling between 1 and 0 based on how far you push down.
Thats where i noticed that this guy has no idea what he is talking about
It's less about the travel for activation as much as it's annoying to have a button travel so far that you have to use so often. It's very much usable. It just has no real use in a fighting game.
Analog triggers with a Digital button in the bottom, Games can (and sometimes did in the gamecube days) map both to different functions.
If you do press it all the way down the buffer can keep it pressed after you release it
Yo Wulff Den, nice video! Just fyi: you just need to plug the black cable from the Wii U/Switch Gamecube Adapter into the Switch Dock. The grey one is for the rumble only. So you are able to plug in 2 Adapters to have 8 player Gamecube controller matches. ;)
I love this friggin channel.
the gamecube's bumper travel time is not really an issue in smash, because if you have your smash basics nailed down, you won't really be playing purely reacting to your oponent, you usually shield preemptively, you try to read. the best controller is really the one the player feels the best with, i really recommend the pro controller cuz it's super confortable in general, but the big issue with it is that the plastic it has wears down really fucking fast on the left joystick (specially if you play smash pretty often) , and the dust that comes off gets into the stick's sensor, making it drift really badly with time. the gamecube one is really good for smash but it might not feel as good as as using a pro controller in other games. good vid
Satisfye grip helps a lot in portable mode as far as the right joystick goes. The buttons are still somewhat annoying but at least I'm not cramping my thumb trying to flick the analog stick to do a special.
I have the same grip and it's awesome!
Keep in mind you don’t need use the two USBs for the switch adapter. The grey one just turns on the rumble, which isn’t always needed

I've cleaned the controller and tried dissembling it and everything but no luck. I'm just glad I got it for 30 bucks on Black Friday instead of MSRP

I have the powerA controller and I love it. ONE major problem though is i went to a tournament and it was a major pain to connect it every time I switched stations. It also kept connecting to the other console and I had to start taking the batteries out so that i would not interrupt the other players. I went back to the cord.
I have one and the L stick rubber has started to rub off after just several hours of use. I may have to return it or get a replacement.
It plays just like the Pro controller. Actually the switch thinks that it is a pro controller and not a game cube controller. @Griff -

Got to look for mine haha! This should have been brought back instead. I enjoy the Pro Controller but need to button remap
Yeah that's what I've been using too, hasn't done me wrong yet
Do you still need the GameCube controller adapter for the switch to make the wavebird work? I have a wavebird but want to know for sure it works with the GameCube controller adapter before I buy :)
@@Paratrooper9 yeah you do need it
Yep the wavebird is still the best in my opinion. I like the build and look of it. Been using it for 15+ years and still going strong. I actually ordered another one recently just in case 20 years after I bought it, it dies on me.
I actually use the HORI one for CTR, and even though Y to brake feels a bit strange, it works just fine playing with the d-pad and switched trigger buttons.
a note to anyone watching currently: the pdp controller is both ridiculously priced in most cases and also, when notched in the downright/downleft notch, in ultimate specifically, it will walk forward as opposed to the normal GCC which makes you crouch and still inputs a downward angled f-tilt when you press A. i also had this problem on multiple Power A wired controllers after about a month or two of heavy use each. never had this issue with any OEM controller
I just like it when you talk , ur really funny ,thanks
Small correction about the OG GCC shoulders. It registers the input after a certain analog value. You don't need to bottom out for the digital click. This means that you aren't actually hindered for using it. You don't need both USB ports for the adapter. The gray is only used for rumble which most people who want the GCC turn off anyway. You can also remap controls in Smash (the rare time Nintendo handles controls right) so the whole shoulder flip-flop on 3rd party controllers or Joycons doesn't matter. There is also a cheaper 3rd party GCC adapter by Mayflash that works just as well and works on PC out of the box. And small note, wired Pro Controller is even slower than wireless Pro Controller. Likely just a design defect but interesting nonetheless. Just mentioning since it's an option and wired isn't always faster (not that you said it was).
On your first point though about the OG GCC shoulders registering input after a certain analog value: do you feel as if the long travel on those buttons aren't still an issue when you consider the fact that people don't consciously do half presses and then let off the shoulder button to reduce time spent if needed to press again soon after? I feel like if you need to be free for your next input as soon as possible when playing competitively, you would probably do best with a controller where you can confirm an input with little travel and muscle memory than trying to compromise one for other.
@NPC #9258813 In smash, your shield goes light or harder based on the pressure/travel of the shoulder. Timing (how long included), density and angle of your shield actually matters, especially in advanced/pro play. So U actually lose functionality and this exactly why you would see pros only use the original design.
@@YaKillaCJ Actually light and heavy shields are gone, those are only in melee. In brawl, 4, and ultimate, the shield is the same regardless. Making analog triggers even more useless
@@soulseer5789 with the new controllers, there is no analog input, its been replaced with digital. i feel they kept the controller the same throughout for the purpose of ease of use for old and new smash players.
@@KingDrixx In all reality, due to the buffering and how inputs work in Ultimate, pressing shield for too long doesn't really matter. What matters is just the time to the input. Shield doesn't have any downsides for pressing too long like a jump or attack could. That said, if you remap the trigger to something else, it'll likely hinder you. I tried L to Jump, it sucked where it's better on the Pro. But this video doesn't seem like it was made with the knowledge that you can remap.
Retro Fighters has a new GameCube controller coming out this year, and I'm on the waitlist for that, so we'll see how it is. They have both staggered and parallel variants.
I play with two combined PoweA wired controllers. I put three counterweights (they have metal conterweights in them) in the left side, and took a sander to the rigbt joustick to make an efficient C stick.
For the game cube controller adapter you don’t need the grey USB port, that one is supposedly for vibration, so you can take it off and it would still work.
Imagine Spending $25 for a GameCube Controller -Brought to you by the JoyCon Grip Gang
Joe ********** it’s actually $24.99
@@sultanalowais5822 My bad, have a nice day.
Yeah but will be 100$ in a few months
what about $70 for the pro controller
Jokes on you I already had a game cube
You said that wasn’t a scientific approach but it was. You took a very scientific approach with the tools available. Props.
Mapping your y button to grab is a great way to be able to do it without shielding accidentally
