  • This all looks great but as a qualified electrician, the major issue I can see here is interconnecting the supply 'L' terminals. This is not an issue if the two lights being controlled are on the same lighting circuit but this is often not the case. What is the correct way of connecting these where for example an upstairs and downstairs lighting circuit are present at the same switch (typical hallway / landing arrangement)? Can this even be done with these switches? Such lighting circuits are often supplied on separate sides of a split load RCD protected board and switching both a landing light and hallway light from the same supply live (line) conductor is liable to cause an imbalance on the RCD and cause it to trip. Can you clarify please?

  • I currently have in one conduit a 2gang and 1gang traditional switch. Do I forget the ground wire combine the 2 live wires and combine the 3 neutral wires?

  • I bought the same type of smart switch but in white color and wondering to know if you can disable the blue background light or do any modification to do that, as it becomes very bright to stay ON all the time in a bedroom. Thanks

    • @@kebladj yeah YOU do not have ANY neutral's in switches in UK lighting circuit all neutrals are all on ceiling rose and the fact that there is only one live (L) means that when you connect the live from down stairs rcbo and then connect the upstairs live it trips every time because there is only one L terminal and a two way terminal the neutrals are split between two rcbo's and it will always trip because you are using the live from both rcbo's and the neutrals are all connected in the ceiling rose so it will trip every time because you are using two diff lives from upstairs and down stairs circuit breaker and the rcbo's do not accept diff live via common ground or split neutrals via common live as it is split across the two 6A rcbo breakers thus instantly tripping Well after 2-5secs it trips !!!!!!! I HAVE PHYSICALLY SPENT 5hrs playing with every combo of wires now it works but only when you switch one way on at bottom (FIRST) and then switch upstairs 2way on otherwise it switches off upstairs after 3-4 secs???? unless bottom light is energised first!!!! any help is appreciated.

    • @@kebladj Are you running lights from separate circuits? Is this tripping your MCB or RCD device?

    • @@MWSRD I'm a qualified electrician and not convinced this is suitable for controlling two circuits on separate sides of a split load RCD consumer unit (or separate RCBO's). You are correct about the imbalance. I think your only solution to getting yours working will be to get in your loft and disconnect your landing light from your upstairs lighting circuit so it can be controlled via the downstairs circuit. This way, you can link the two 'L' terminals as the video shows (permanent live (line) from your downstairs lighting circuit) but of course you then have the problem of getting a neutral feed to the landing luminaire from the downstairs lighting circuit! Have you tried not linking the 'L' terminals at all but instead using the downstairs supply line (live) for the downstairs switch and the upstairs line (live) for the one on the landing? This is the only simple solution I can see to this issue but not sure it would work as the details of how loads are being switched is not very clear with this product. The one way you could potentially solve this would be to separate your double switches into 2x single switches. You'd have to cut in extra back boxes adjacent to each existing one and link cables through from the sides. This way you could have two 1g 2w switches for your downstairs light (L terminals linked via the permanent L feed to the downstairs switch) and the same arrangement for the upstairs lighting circuit.

  • There are better blue tooth three way switches out there. Less wiring.
