In a crime-ridden neighborhood deep in the heart of Brazil, a young woman named Flordelis rose up to become a singer, a wealthy pastor of six mega-churches, and a politician… Most noteworthy, however, was becoming a mother to 55 children. But behind the scenes of this saintly woman was a life of scandal, corruption, and strange love affairs that would give way to a scandalous downfall. This is the story of how an evangelical empire of a powerful woman once hailed as The Mother of The Nation came crumbling down.

    • unfortunately it happens a lot, although statistically it's men who kill their estranged wives or have them killed rather than get a divorce because in the toxic masculinity mindset, getting divorced means you're less of a man. not true, but yanno. a fair to decent amount of women will do it as well, but that's usually because of money (can't afford a divorce/life insurance) or custody of children. it's why when someone is murdered, police always look at the spouse or significant other first, especially if there were problems in the relationship.

  • As an adoptee into a big family with lots of adoptees, this really makes me sick. I made a video once ranting about people who adopt gaggles of us because it’s OBVIOUSLY a red flag, we don’t get the care we need, and we are basically accessories of our hero complex fueled parents. There needs to be more of a stigma against people who do this stuff because it’s obviously not actually for the kids after a certain point.

    • I'm also very sorry you had to go through something so awful. I decided a very long time ago that I'm never having children, because I'm too selfish and impatient, I'd ruin their childhoods and possibly cause traumas. People are very cavalier about having kids and it's infuriating to me. Being a parent is a huge responsibility and I would like to see compulsory psych tests implemented on anyone who wishes to reproduce or adopt, otherwise we will never end this terrible cycle. Way too many people who shouldn't even dream of being parents end up having kids and those poor kids suffer as a result.

      @sirbuffalo@sirbuffalo Жыл бұрын
    • I'm sorry you had that experience. My parents adopted 12. They had 2 of their own before. A whopping 14 kids. I don't know how they did it honestly. They didn't want the biological brothers and sisters separated by the system. The first 5 were adopted then me and 3 brothers and 3 sisters. We honestly couldn't have had a more loving family. I thank God everyday for my parents. We wanted for nothing and I can't remember a time either of my parents weren't there if I needed a cuddle or talk about something.

It's open-list proportional representation: the state (province) of Rio de Janeiro gets a number of deputies proportional to its population. Then those seats are divided among the parties proportional to their votes on the state. Party A got X% of votes, they get around X% of seats, Party B got Y% of votes, they get around Y% of seats, etc. She was elected through the Social Democratic Party (despite the name, it's a centrist big-tent party).

  • The worst of it for me, is the evil of brainwashing children away from their families🥺 I can't imagine how shattered those families must've been losing their kids to this crazy woman. And I guess they wouldn't have had the courage to call her out or expose her to the authorities, because they would be religious people and wouldn't want to make God angry or whatever. This doc really made me feel upset! She ruined the lives of all those kids to serve her own stupid ego

  • A day before I watched your documentary on this woman, I was telling my daughter how I've seen so many true stories of deeply religious people choosing murder of their spouses over divorce, due to the shame. She was very surprised when I told her this. When I watched this yesterday, I had never heard of this woman from Brazil. Boy, she checked all the boxes of evil behavior as a well-known pastor. I was afraid to watch this documentary because it said that she married her son, and I wasn't sure I wanted to see that. It was still evil what she did by marrying a young man she pretended to adopt, but at least it wasn't a blood-related son since she did have children with her husband that she ended up murdering. I told my daughter about this story and I plan to forward this documentary to her. People, if you are unhappy with your spouse and it's not going to work out, don't murder them. A divorce is a much better choice.

  • I grew up AOG. Being abused as a child I had C-PTSD. It would manifest as anxiety, nightmares, and feelings like I was seeing things. I wasn't even 5 when it started. My pastors were convinced it was me seeing into the spirit realm and would encourage me to do things that triggered me so I could see more demons and angels and pass on that knowledge. It made the C-PTSD worse. And that is the least horrible thing I faced growing up AOG. Not all pastors were bad, four churches (and 4 pastors) across 2 states, 1 of them was a normal loving and rational person. AOG itself may not be considered a cult, but the way Pentecostals are, the way we are taught, the charismatic notions we carry, the deep dives into demons and angels, we prime ourselves for cults to branch within and off of our church. Change needs to happen if the AOG wants to continue without hurting people, as Jesus wouldn't want people being hurt.

I’m always Leary of people when they say “ The lord told me, or The Lord spoke to me” because now you have a private interpretation coming from who knows where. It’s basically feeding off peoples ignorance of the Bible and their hopes n desires of getting out of a negative spiritual, financial, and psychological lifestyle. It’s like when a girl or guy is being led along in a relationship. Everything is good until you start questioning where are we going with this? All of it is one sided n selfish it’s not love it’s controlling n manipulative it only benefits the one person. They only do things you like to keep you around for the moment then they’ll change their plan and move on to the next person. It’s very sociolpathic.

    • Tongues is a legitimate thing, it's through tongues that the event of Pentecost happened with the Apostles. It doesn't work like how you see in those types of churches. Anyone purposely encouraging folks to speak in tongues like that is a fraud. St. Paul told the first churches that no one should speak in tongues in church if no legitimate translation could be provided, and no more than two or three should talk in tongues each waiting his turn. It wasn't expected that tongues would be even remotely common but a miracle with a purpose. Legitimate tongues isn't random gibberish or weird chanting. It's speaking in a legitimate language without knowing it prior in order to provide a message about the gospel to someone in his native language, or a language he suddenly was given knowledge of through the gift of the understanding of tongues, and to serve as a miracle. The sermon of Pentecost was to convert unbelievers who all spoke different languages and to speak to them all in one tongue. We don't see tongues happen on that scale again after that in scripture. Whatever those Pentecost folks in the video are doing with the shaking and gibberish doesn't sound like biblical tongues.

  • This is an absolutely brilliant presentation, well done. I like following the investigations into the scandals of so-called religious leaders but I wasn't sure I really wanted to spend 40 minutes on this case that I've never heard of. Thought I'd just peek a bit, but instead, found myself riveted from beginning to end. Not only that, I've spent another couple of hours digging through other sources, and it appears everything discussed in this video checks out. No sensationalism, simply the facts. If only all KZhead videos were of this professional and truthful calibre! Immediately subscribed. 👍👍

  • This video does a very good at showing how much these religions dominate and exploit the poorest regions of the country. I’m from Rio too but from a upper middle-class Portuguese Catholic family, so had never even heard of flordelis until she started being investigated for her husbands death and it broke the news. Yet, despite not being known much in my circle, she was an elected politician with a cult to personality kind of following. This is soooo common in Brazil, we even have a wing in congress called the “evangelical wing”, full of people like her, who promote lots of conservative and moralist stuff, while doing everything they preach against behind doors.
