  • Now you just need to do What Could Have Been for Ghostbusters 2, and the circle will be complete. Dan Aykroyd had some really out there ideas like the team going to Scotland

    @Omar-wq9dz@Omar-wq9dzАй бұрын
    • How is going to Scotland a "really out there idea" when we're talking about a movie where they literally capture ghosts?

    • @@user-zj1rk4ec1u neither have I. this is the first i'm seeing and learning about this. the only sequel idea I recall hearing coming up through the 2010s was something about this Manhelltan story, where they end up getting sent to Hell and encounter this distorted corrupted version of NYC...I might be mixing some of this up with a fanfiction pitch watched on KZhead years ago. But I think they might've used some stuff from the Manhelltan idea for that Ghostbusters video game for X-box or something.

    • Honestly there’s such a great movie they shot for 2 but watered it far too down for kids like me at the time. The extra dialogue scenes, esp in the beginning really make it more a comedy, plus would’ve been great to see Louis Tully chasing Slimer throughout the movie before the bus joke. Would’ve been nice to see Hardemeyer get sucked into the goo in his fit of rage but the best horror moment would be the freshly possessed Ray going nuts behind the wheel. You only really get a reaction shot from Murray & a fast corner taking in the montage, all that survives other than what was printed in the picture books & novelization

  • Another great “What If”. I remember reading in Cinefex magazine when Aykroyd told the effects wizards about the ghost then named “Onionhead”. He had not told anyone he had added this for his friend Belushi, and when described, someone said, “Hey sounds like Bluto in Animal House”. Aykroyd said nothing and everyone knew it was, essentially, Belushi’s ghost - which is why he “slimes” Bill Murray as that was originally his part.

  • I read a story that Christopher Lee's agent told him there were two scripts that wanted him. One was some worthless thing Ivan Reitman was pushing but the OTHER was a Stephen Speilburg production sure to be a big hit. So, apparently, Lee's agent talked him out of "Ghostbusters," and into "1941," which wasn't a "flop" so much, but did kind of underperform. In a book on the original premise of the film, they DO mention "Gozer" being a middle aged man, but they implied that he was manifesting as Ivo Shendor. And while they didn't say it, I can't help but wonder if THAT'S where they wanted Christopher Lee? Could you imagine THAT voice saying; "Are YOU a god?"

  • Thanks for the new video. I think a few elements from the early version could be used for a part 3 after Frozen Empire. The main thing that lit an idea bulb was the competitive other Ghostbusters services. I've no idea how the tech would've become that widespread...well, maybe since Mayor Peck seized their old equipment in pt 2, maybe someone who seized the tech took it away and got it to a team to reverse engineer, improve and start their own Ghostbusting group. That's the most I can think of right now. I don't think that's enough to sustain a 90 min movie.

  • You notice how in every movie its kind of the actions of the ghostbusters that create the biggest effects on the world right? Ray made the stay puft, playing outlaw got the containment unit shut off and all the ghosts escape, sleeping on Gozer for 40 years barely stopping it, loose with the experiments letting loose garaka and eventually freeing every ghost again. Well i can see the ghostbusters eventually making a permanent rip in the dimensions and decades later they are outlaws and a dark future dystopia with a bunch of ghostbusting companies hiding ghosts in secret, running from cops just like the original script.

  • Wait, New Jersey isn't an alternate dimension already? With Aykroyd's interest in the paranormal, it would be interesting to see his original concept made into a film - sounds like it would have ended up being a lot more of a horror film than what Ghostbusters became, could have been an interesting story. But I have no doubt it wouldn't have been anywhere as successful. Ghostbusters is a great example of a film being shaped by the creative people on it - Candy would have given us a very different Louis, maybe it would have worked, maybe not. Had they gotten a different director, it wouldn't have been as grounded and Ramis wouldn't have added his work to the script. Belushi instead of Murray would have brought a real different feel to the character. Any of these alone impacted the film but all of them together really changed the film in a positive way. I think any version would have been successful, I don't think any version other than what we got would have been a classic and talked about 40 years later. Going to see the new film tonight, Ghostbusters lives!

  • It's amazing how many changes the movie went through before even reaching production. It was all changed at the script level. And for the better for the most part (though I would've loved to see what it would have looked like if it included Belushi and Murphy). More movie productions should do this, honestly. Apparently, Christopher Nolan does this with his work. He writes and rewrites the movie at the script level. Which is why there are often very few deleted scenes with his movies. What you see on screen is largely what he ends up with. Imagine how much money studios could save if they didn't have to "fix" everything in reshoots and post-production.

  • Aykroyd was going to call it _Ghost Chasers_ - the same name as the films used to parody _Ghostbusters_ in an episode of _The Critic._ I'll let you draw the analogy that the episode had Jary Sherman write the script for the third film that turned out so bad, even he thought it stunk.

    • Not good? Afterlife and Frozen Empire are amazing! They missed the window to give us what could have been those guys are nearly 75/80 years old. They pulled it off quite well I think. When the weirdness of "stranger things kid and Antman" in the movie fade over time they will be classics will stand the time test.

    • @HighFlyingEYE Everybody has their own tastes and all I know it. I don't mean you, unless the shoe fits but I just get the impression too many people don't LET themselves enjoy these movies that get all this hate. They just go into these children's movies expecting to get that same feeling the originals bring but that's impossible because of all the baggage of nostalgia that they associate with it. Movies are meant to stimulate the senses of Visual and Audio and a good story and invoke emotions. But the emotions people are searching for are related to memories that have to do with their life at the time the movie came out which the movie itself has zero to do with. Sometimes you have to let the kid in you watch and remember what about the actual movie you liked back then. Idk the instant hate for every movie that comes out is getting old. They are just as good or bad as any other movie ever made in their respective categories.

    • Ghostbusters 3 was canceled due to high budget for the next movie Bill Murray did not want to come back and because Ghostbusters 2 did not make money as Sony wish. And I heard that the Ghostbusters video game was originally going to be a third movie. But we should be grateful that the gang is back in Ghostbusters afterlife but rest in peace to Harold Remus.

    • @@raedgonzalezspideyfanboy I keep meaning to get a copy of that game on Steam. From the letsplay and edits of the cut scene footage I've seen of that game, it looks pretty good as a game and as a movie....I just didn't get around to finishing it. 😅But glad we have it in existence in our section of the timeline and cosmos. I think what they've done in this Stranger Things style continuation series is not bad. Not sure it has the exact same energy, but i found them to be a decent time. and glad the surviving cast was able to come back for part 2. I hope they give the new cast a little more time to shine in a part 3. Also i hope at one point they give the new series of good DVD/Blu-Ray covers or posters. I sort of had a difficult time remembering the covers as posters...but maybe it's my old age missing well drawn and composed movie posters and movie covers that made you want to pick them off the shelves and I might be asking for too much. (I think this is something more as a like a second wave collectors style thing for those movies, maybe to make them look a little cooler or something, in case the initial sales don't go well or something.)
