@@WetWattz I can't believe this is the standard we're thrusted upon by these corporations. We shouldn't be complacent to their greed.
Here is the pattern : 1- Buy any numbers of studios 2-Instruct them to make a game, hopefully a licenced one 3-Gave them a (very) low budget and impossible deadlines 4- Watch them fail 5- Then shut them down
4 - They somehow make a good game 5 - Shut them down anyway

That's why nobody cares about the opinion of these rich executives

In game ads should be a criminal offense if its not a free to play. Imagine spending $60-70 on a product just to get ads
I am okay with ad in video game. Ad, not ads. Just one. They get one slot for the lifetime of the game and that’s it. 😂
@@duckisduckcluck2258Why would you allow ads?

Nothing but good news.
Very good... Was hoping for more though. Damnit!
Yep. It could've easily been a good game, but they went a different route.
Yeah the funny thing is they would just blame the developer after that bad management and just shut down the studio
Bye!
Forget EVERY EA game if they release ads in their games. That's it. I'm done.
I've been done for years
Is there not ads in every sports game already?
Luckly I don't think I play any EA games currently so I'm good. But I've got a feeling the FIFA playerbase is not going to care if they add ads.
@@atomicfatman5000 I would have to agree
Changing nothing over the last 10 years because they make billions from Ultimate team didn't do it for you?
The bit about ads followed directly by an ad deserves a chef's kiss
In game ads... Jeez that brought back some memories... Battlefield 2142 - a company literally called IGA, In Game Advertising, partnered with EA to place ads in 2142. It was a PR disaster and never made it to the live game once it launched. You may remember seeing billboards with Jeeps on them in the game - those were the "placeholders" that became permanent once the whole thing was thankfully abandoned. It absolutely grinds my gears that the fools who have failed upwards in these studios cannot even see their own past failures...
Ads, games as service, DLC, loot boxes… I’ll just start reading physical books again.
Check out the Shanara series. The 1st one, even though it's a NYTS, is bad. It's rough and not great. It was written in the 70s and it shows. But By GOD does the author improve in the 2000s. To an insane degree.
Right. Games and streaming have gone to shit.
Nah, books are filled with YA Novels that someone had written in like 3 weeks with incoherent story. Next books gonna be written by AI
Ps2 emulator has been my savior... rebeat every tony hawk but proving ground... was a blast
Never should've stopped.
ADs inside of games that buyers pay $70+ for is new low, even by EA standards
Ea always hit records with new lows, but they have too much brainless people stil that still spend in they garbage
FF XV did it, but the in-gamr ad was pretty much foretold by the game having comical commercials with Cup Noodle before release. Then, the mission related to Cup Noodle is played up for jokes and laughs. And depending on which route you choose within that mission, you can net yourself one of the legendary weapons in the game (the mission itself doesn't directly give it to you, but it puts you in its vicinity). The game also has a lot of real-world brands, like Coleman for the camping gear the characters use. I wouldn't want the Cup Noodle ad to be a common kind of thing in games, but it was an interesting way to go about it.
Yeah but it could add immersion in battlefield. As in if it takes place in modern era. They could have guns and optics with brand names. so it would show up as Sig Sauer mcx spear with sig tango 6t
Don't forget that some games may have a physical disc available, but as they require an internet subscription, the game companies can shut them down on a whim and leave their customers with $70+ drink coasters. That was why I am glad I immediately returned my copy of Overwatch. No matter how much bread you add to that excellent game, in the end, Overwatch was still a poop sandwich for one day becoming unplayable. 💩💩🤬
Not a new low...criminal. Stop downplaying this Shit
If any games company interupts my game time with ads, I will not play their game. To hell with that.
Sims 4 already has ads galore in it. When you're on the title screen there's at least 4 boxes telling you to buy expansions. There's then a tab to view all the expansions you can buy. NOW they've added a button in-game adding a shopping trolley next to your buttons to switch game mode so you can see more expansions you can buy. And before people kicked up a stink about it, it used to pulse. It would continuously grow and shrink to bring your attention to it. Sims 4 has: 15 Expansion packs 12 Game packs 20 Stuff packs 29 Kits That's 76 DLCs. And they've just announced MORE
Imagine playing the sequel to Jedi Survivor in Corusant, and suddenly you see "HEINZ KETCHUP" on a flying vehicle.
Very immersion breaking, but at least it doesn't take control away from me
@@anthonyfernandez82 Good point. Now the camera control is taken away from you and the camera then directs your attention to the Hein Ketchup mobile as it passes you before returning the camera back to your control.
@@KeanuChristif it's done right (depending on the game) it could actually add to the immersion. Imagine playing an open-world game set in a real-world location that actually has real-world products and billboard advertising. No more fake made-up cola drinks and restaurants.

Yep, layoffs will happen one way or another. Microsoft proved that.
Unfortunately some people still feel bad for employees losing their job,I mean yeah I get it but we have no choice because these companies are run by complete idiots.

You can’t spell diarrhea without EA
I thought the only way these companies would learn their lesson is to have big failures like this, but they somehow still don't get it.
Because Advertising Specialists are ACTUALLY the ones in charge, NOT game developers! Money men and people who create adds for a living are deciding what happens when making a videogame at the big AAA companies. They’ll only “learn” when they’re out of business because nobody buys their shit.
I'll be boycotting any studios that put ads in games they expect me to pay for. Amazon tried pulling this crap with Prime. Who are any of these to decide for me on my behalf if they're "tasteful" or "thoughtful"?
i personally wouldnt mind real world ads on ingame billboards but then i can imagine that getting out of hand when a game like God of War has a McDonalds ad on the side of a mountain

@@gameranxTVMust make business for them somehow 😅
No, Xbox, that's not how you eliminate the competition.
I wonder how much of it is wanting the IPs without wanting the studios (and of course the studios likely aren't just going to sell them the IPs)
If it’s anything like other industries, the licences have value to their investors. A lot of it is about owning a portfolio of titles, even if they aren’t actively producing anything based off them.
Imagine if they made another good single player game. They'll somehow blame players for Suicide Squad's failures instead of upper management forcing the devs to make it.
Yeah, but the problem is that at the same time Suicide Squad was bombing, all anybody could talk about was how great Helldivers 2 was, which just tells them that the problem is that they spent too much money on Suicide Squad, because Helldivers 2 was also a live service game, but it was cheap to make. So in the future they'll just try to pump out more of this crap, but they'll put less work into it. We'll get a bunch of live service crap games that are worse than Suicide Squad before we get another good Arkham game.
Live Service is a crime in a singleplayer game world. A seperate game thst has nothing to do with anything is okay but not batman and especially not Arkham Batman..
It’s like there was a smear campaign against Suicide Squad for being open about the fact that offline wasn’t ready at launch 🤣🤣
Games used always used have Ads. Penguin bars used to appear in Robocod, you had to collect Chuppa Chups in Zool, Cool spot was Coca-Cola, Superfrog was Vimto I think, Crazy Taxi was KFC, Fila and Tower Records? They were massive features. I also loved the Anti-advert in games rant in this video before rolling straight into the sponsor plug.
Great video! Have a good weekend, Gameranx! Playing Indika and Tales of Kenzera
Something else that sucks about Tango’s shutdown is that those devs were on vacation. It was Golden Week in Japan and that’s a huge holiday there. That’s almost the equivalent of getting fired over the Fourth of July break here in the states. They wanted Japanese devs, but fired them for no reason. They say they need another Hi-Fi Rush, but shut them down. It’s *your* fault you shadow dropped it and released it on game pass so people can pay it for almost free. No one told you to spend $70 BILLION on stupid purchases, Microsoft. You were spread thin? Hire people, you’re worth THREE TRILLION Never had an Xbox and now this would definitely never make me want to support that garbage company. Sony ain’t perfect at all, but Microsoft still managed to one up them in assholery
just my opinion but I think this is a case of pure corporate cannibalism - on one hand they squash smaller studios who actually develop good games to "retire" some of the competition, and on the other they suck and siphon their talent into their mega AAA projects. ofc they'll say bullshit like they can't afford to run these smaller studios [cackles] but saying bullshit as press releases is what they do best.
Seriously, are there no laws for these big companies against what they're doing, buying out their competition and then closing them? It kind of sounds like a monopoly
They are getting some mild scrutiny actually in certain countries and it has passed the attention of higher ups SOMEWHAT but it’s just not ENOUGH of a true monopoly…YET. It might be getting there soon though.
There's like one person in the Us govt. trying todo anything about this stuff and she's the most unanamously disliked person in the government.

I actually remember the subway restaurants in Infamous. At the time, I thought they were kind of cool honestly. If it's like product placements like in movies and not actual commercials, I could live with that.
I'm actually glad that the Helldivers 2 community fought Sony back and actually succeeded. I hope it inspires more gaming communities to fight these faceless corporations
Can you imagine if the Minecraft community got as upset with Microsoft for the same exact thing 😂😂 the smearing of Helldivers/Sony was just people crying like babies because Steam fucked up and sold it in regions it shouldn’t have.
EA trying to add ads into their games is the most EA thing that's ever EA'd
My concern is that AAA publishers start to insist on an ads tier at the normal price ($70) or offer a premium no ads version of the game ($90). For all the controversy this would generate we all know it only would take one GTA size game doing it to make it industry standard. If they make it shiny enough we will eat it right up.
and the worst part about it is that there are enough schmucks with poor self control who will pay that extra $20 to make this profitable for the publishers

Fifa and Madden players would absolutely sit through ads in game. Or more likely pay to skip them.

You’re absolutely right about the situational practicality of ads in games. In racing / sports arena / real city games, we generally WANT 1:1 environmental accuracy. The cruel irony is that they can’t always get that and only have a couple companies paying for in-game advertising each title, so we get stuff like Same Two Billboards for Hours and NYC as Specific Energy Drink Hellscape.
They should do the ads like they did in The Truman Show. Mid dialog and we get a "would you like a hot streaming bowl of Bush Beans, new low sodium" Horrible if that would be the future of AAA gaming

Jet moto on ps1 had mountain dew adds on everything. The bikes, ramps, and billboards. Everywhere except the mountains?
I think EA gets away with so much shit because the people who play their games are people not in the gaming space. They can make their sports games just absolute dogshit but those consuming it will still eat it up.
I'm glad Jake wears such unique shirts. It makes scrubbing past adds waaaaaaaay easier
The dynamic add, I think that Trackmania 2020 already has this. A lot of the tracks have Billboards, with both adds for other tracks but in competitions also for other things. I get it, when most players are free players.
I played a game set in Akihabara and it had real world AD'S on the advert screen and it made sense as that is exactly what happens in Akihabara however they were only ones appropriate for Akihabara and not say advertising coke, Nike or something that would not be on screens in Akihabara.
I love bit where Jake followed the complaint about ads in a game with an ad in a video. That’s just where we’re headed, folks. Companies make less money on initial purchases, so they seek income in other places, in EVERY place. That means, “Can we sell ads here?” We as gamers aren’t customers, we’re the product. The advertisers are the customers.
Are you paying to watch this video?
@@Nova3482 Fair enough point. No I am not, and I get that adding space for an advertiser in a free video is WILDLY different than adding an ad within a fully priced game, I was only pointing out something that I found funny.
@@Fit_and_Found But seriously think about this. Put yourself in their shoes. Let's say you own a business. Maybe you own a gas station. And you're doing okay. You're making enough money to get by. Some months can be a little tight. And then some company comes in and offers to pay you $1000 a month if they can put an ad for their product on your front door. Do you tell them no? What's the downside? Why not take that extra money for basically nothing? You have something valuable, in that you have an area that a lot of people frequent, and people are willing to pay money for access to that resource. You personally have no use for that space. Anybody who sees it is already coming to your store, so it does nothing for you to advertise there. It's only valuable to others. Should you waste that resource and refuse because... well, I can't really even think of a justification for it. Just because. Because a bunch of anonymous keyboard warriors would claim to be so offended by the idea of ads that they will never shop at your store again, when in reality they probable would never even notice, and probably aren't even your customers in the first place.

The only issue is that they try recreating that success without the love that Larian poured into BG3.
I'm going to call it right now. With the ultrafast storage we have today, load screens are virtually non-existant. I see greedy publishers putting artificial loading screens back into games with ads on them.
There were Subway [Sandwich Shops] in Infamous 2. Only distracting bc I don't remember literally any other real brands being around in the city besides that.
Boy oh boy has the industry been eating itself lately.
I remember EA patching some faulty advertising signs in f1 while me and my friend couldn't finish a co-op season because of the bugs.
I just got let go yesterday as a 3D artist for a marketing agency. I’ve been making my own games for years and landed a job utilizing the 3D skills gained from game dev. The company I worked for has cut 10% of their staff and I was unfortunately in the minority. And yep, was due to budget cuts and a need for year over year financial growth.
Tango games shutting down is so much pain to me . We'll never get evil within 3.
Depends on what kinds of ads we're talking about. Ads dont have to be bad. People think of intrusive pop-ups when think of ads, but it could be a lot more benign, like the billboard saying Coca-Cola instead of some made up soda. I wouldnt really care about that, and if it gives them money then alright, fine by me.
“Thoughtful ways of insertion” is a phrase I never thought I would hear
Rainbow six Vegas 1 or 2 (can’t remember which one) had billboard ads. (Only on I remember was in the casino map) the ad was Axe/Lynx
People need to not buy ANY EA game if that's the case in order to protest ads on a game!! Now that's ridiculous I might end up putting my controller down if it takes off
Ads in paid games? Seems like a slippery slope that’ll lead to paying $70 to just see Star Wars themed Manscaped ads… or worse yet, paying MORE money to not see them, yikes.

If I bought a game on my Xbox, and it's available in the Windows store, I can download & play the PC version. So, that's a big plus for going PC -vs- another console.
That is the most illogical thing I've ever seen commented. Xbox is by far the better console and best value console particularly with a Gamepass subscription. Not having much in the way of first party titles isn't a big deal in these crossplatform times, even PS exclusives are on PC which is why I haven't touched my PS5 in a year and it's not like there are many of those, an entire console purchase isn't worth like 4 games
I remember Mark Hamill saying, quite clearly, that he wouldn't play Joker anymore since Kevin Conroy was no longer with us.
Videogames are about having fun, but lately... the past 3 years lately... they've been making me incredibly jaded. Especially now that other sectors, such as car companies, coming with things like subscription services, day 1 DLC, microtransactions, something that was started in the gaming industry.
At this rate the future for games is gonna suck
"At this rate the future is gonna suck" Here I fixed it for you

Why? Sure, a lot of the major studios are crumbling under their own stupidity, but more and more non-AAA titles are making it big in light of that, and some studios like fromsoft and Capcom are on top of the world right now, even if Capcom has their own issues. Studios will either shape up or crumble, and there will always be up-and-comers more than ready to take their place and fill their niche.
100% we are literally seeing the downfall of so many things in real time
@@BoyBlunder66 we don't need more ads there so annoying
IRL advertisements in-game is nothing new to EA. EA already attempted this in 2006 with Battlefield 2142.
Yeah I remember adds on billboard’s in Bad Company.
As usual Grape Mandingo back with another one!!! Keep it up buster
The original crazy-taxi had real-world locations, KFC, Pizza Hut etc. They had to remove those locations from the game for legal reasons. Ads in games (if done right) could be a way to add real world locations back into games. I wouldn't mind seeing a Popeye's instead of a Cluckin' Bell in a GTA game 😂
