    • True, the issue is that sometimes they're wooden or some other material than the track and the spikes don't dig into those boards like the rubber track; so it slips. They can hyper-extend knees terribly!

    • Like with a lot of these sports, athletes actually did use to do stuff like that, but then it was banned because apparently these sports are meant to always remain as boring as possible.

  • This had me crying laughing seeing it live but in retrospect, this might be the future of long jump. Maybe they've been doing it wrong all these years 💀. Really glad McLeod was alright tho 🙏🏿

    • The technique where you basically do a front flip/land on your hands and roll of is literally forbidden and will get you disqualified, because of the danger it poses for the athletes, so no it’s probably not the future, which is for the better

  • Long jumps can be dangerous..I remember one of my teammates breaking his wrist, long jumping in primary school back in Jamaica. Paul Francis (Racers Track club) and brother of Steven Francis, was also my class mate at Dunrobin Primary School.

    • It used to be aluminium, now it's a hardened synthetic material that's less slippery. The thin strip in the middle that shows whether they've fouled used to be clay; it's now plasticene.

  • long jumpers have to actively avoid rolling forward which is why doing a front flip is beneficial but it got banned due to safety concerns
