  • Actually if they can still cough, you encourage them to cough it up. If the airway is completely closed, then you do the thing. I had to do cpr, rb, and hm at my school for two years and the best way to make sure the person is safe is to try and let them do it themselves first and if the airway closes, you can then do the hm without causing as much harm.
