  • 5:30 if the bot played elsewhere (not unreasonable because this is HastyBot) and you drew P instead of E you would've had PRAN(K)ING for 230 points. Almost a miracle draw!

    • That would've been awesome! The rare triple-quadruple haha

    • There are many more -ing bingos that could fit there. The bot isn't likely to hit a bingo there, while Mack only needed an N to be in striking distance of a 200+ play. So it might just be a great strategical decision.

    • Thanks! Maybe so, I'm confident not bingoing has to be correct but still hard to know exactly what would've happened -- after EVERY it was definitely unwinnable

  • 23:34 Any consideration for B4 EARN here? You already have the case L for LEARN and there are 3 Ys unseen for a big play from the quadruple word score square. As it turns out, Hasty did have one of them, but it wouldn't have had anything good with it.

    @JDHinten@JDHinten15 күн бұрын
    • Interesting! If not for the 3 Ys unseen then it's a great idea, or if I were down more I'd almost certainly risk it, but I feel like it's a close enough game I don't need to take that chance (if Hasty hits a huge play with a Y to the quad it's pretty dire at that point), could be convinced otherwise though

  • What about a scrabble variant where only words without vowels are valid, and there are only consonants, and a surplus of blanks in the bag? You haven’t done a variant in a bit

    @nimblerogue@nimblerogue15 күн бұрын
    • That would be fun! Might have to change up the distribution a bit though since then some tiles would be completely unplayable

  • I know there's no reason TO switch to this as a competitive standard, but are there some big reason why NOT to switch to it? I know basically nothing about scrabble, but im a game designer so im curious what sort of problems occur when you change the ruleset like this

    @morganlak4337@morganlak433715 күн бұрын
    • That's a very fair question -- operationally I think the biggest drawback is games would take a lot longer, so you'd need to give people more than the 25 min currently allotted for standard tournament games. This would mean less rounds per tournament, which isn't ideal in a game like Scrabble where you want a lot of rounds to even out the luck factor. In terms of the actual gameplay of Giant Scrabble, there's nothing wrong with it per se that makes it a bad candidate for competitive play, though I do think the strategy is significantly different (in particular bingos are devalued relative to scoring plays because of the heavy bonus squares in the middle of the board). So it would require a major overhaul of how players approach the game.

  • Honestly, 1019-1015 on a giant board is amateur stuff. I once saw a 1210-1210 game in regular Scrabble. Jokes aside, maybe give yourself 25 minutes on Giant Scrabble next time? More tiles, more turns, more time, makes sense to me. It would be fun to see less rushed endgames
