After a lengthy hiatus, Giant Scrabble is back per popular request! Will Mack or HastyBot prevail in today's epic battle of 200 tiles and 421 squares? It's sure to be a banger so you won't want to miss it!
Note: to play this variant yourself on woogles.io, go to the settings gear next to your profile, then hit "Secret Features" and enable variants. Then select ZOMGwords when creating a new game!
Matzoh on the last day of Passover is crazy
That`s what I was thinking!
Yeah and I even got the rare H hook on it!
Fitting that the bot plays MATZOT on the last day of Passover. Nice game!
Thanks, and indeed!
OH SNAP! I found SILK almost immediately. This is like the 2nd time in my year of watching Scrabble content that I've outpaced one of you to a good play.
Nice! Keep it up!
Awesome video! I’d also love to see more of the chaotic 19x19 variant! In the meantime, I made a slight change to the tile distribution: Ax15 Bx3 Cx4 Dx6 Ex18 Fx3 Gx5 Hx3 Ix14 Jx2 Kx2 Lx7 Mx4 Nx9 Ox13 Px3 Qx2 Rx9 Sx7 Tx9 Ux6 Vx3 Wx3 Xx2 Yx3 Zx2 ?x3
5:30 if the bot played elsewhere (not unreasonable because this is HastyBot) and you drew P instead of E you would've had PRAN(K)ING for 230 points. Almost a miracle draw!
That would've been awesome! The rare triple-quadruple haha
There are many more -ing bingos that could fit there. The bot isn't likely to hit a bingo there, while Mack only needed an N to be in striking distance of a 200+ play. So it might just be a great strategical decision.
the board is so big that its giving me a curvy optical illusion
I love super scrabble. I finally tracked down a physical copy of it last year after playing it many years ago when it came out
That's awesome! Yeah it's so cool to see games end with over 1000 points each
WOW what a game!!! i’m positive you would’ve won that endgame with more time🙏🙏
Thanks! Maybe so, I'm confident not bingoing has to be correct but still hard to know exactly what would've happened -- after EVERY it was definitely unwinnable
Can we get giant scrabble with 9-tile racks?
I'd love to but I don't think it's supported on either Woogles or Quackle, unfortunately :(
@@mackmeller Get another expert and do it in-person
Absolutely love giant Scrabble!
Thanks, me too!
A game of over 2000 points is a tie before counting up the leftover tiles... wow
Necrosed was a great find!
Thanks! I likely shouldn't have bingoed as I explain in the video, but was still happy to find it for sure -- always tricky with 2 blanks
All I want out of giant Scrabble is to play PIZZAZZ as it's an unplayable 7 in normal Scrabble.
Someone once stuck their opponent with both Q's in a giant scrabble endgame!!
It's not about whether you win or lose, it's about the 1000s you made along the way
"Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat"
Yeah does sting a bit to lose with over 1000 points though!
I think giant Scrabble would be better with 8 tiles on the rack and 60 points for a bingo.
Yeah that would be super fun, unfortunately I don't think it's supported on either Woogles or Quackle though
BIG SCRABBLE requires BIG SPOILER BLOCKER PHAT BLOCKER
Is it just me or does it look like the board is bulging in the middle when there's nothing on it?
Is is possible to play giant scrabble using a larger rack of 8 or 9 in Quackle?
I wish, but I don't think so sadly
Idea of blitz giant scrabble?
That would be quite something! Even 5 minutes on that big a board would be pretty intense
23:34 Any consideration for B4 EARN here? You already have the case L for LEARN and there are 3 Ys unseen for a big play from the quadruple word score square. As it turns out, Hasty did have one of them, but it wouldn't have had anything good with it.
Interesting! If not for the 3 Ys unseen then it's a great idea, or if I were down more I'd almost certainly risk it, but I feel like it's a close enough game I don't need to take that chance (if Hasty hits a huge play with a Y to the quad it's pretty dire at that point), could be convinced otherwise though
What about a scrabble variant where only words without vowels are valid, and there are only consonants, and a surplus of blanks in the bag? You haven’t done a variant in a bit
That would be fun! Might have to change up the distribution a bit though since then some tiles would be completely unplayable
I know there's no reason TO switch to this as a competitive standard, but are there some big reason why NOT to switch to it? I know basically nothing about scrabble, but im a game designer so im curious what sort of problems occur when you change the ruleset like this
That's a very fair question -- operationally I think the biggest drawback is games would take a lot longer, so you'd need to give people more than the 25 min currently allotted for standard tournament games. This would mean less rounds per tournament, which isn't ideal in a game like Scrabble where you want a lot of rounds to even out the luck factor. In terms of the actual gameplay of Giant Scrabble, there's nothing wrong with it per se that makes it a bad candidate for competitive play, though I do think the strategy is significantly different (in particular bingos are devalued relative to scoring plays because of the heavy bonus squares in the middle of the board). So it would require a major overhaul of how players approach the game.
25:38 where?
VARENYKY from the V if it were elsewhere
Honestly, 1019-1015 on a giant board is amateur stuff. I once saw a 1210-1210 game in regular Scrabble. Jokes aside, maybe give yourself 25 minutes on Giant Scrabble next time? More tiles, more turns, more time, makes sense to me. It would be fun to see less rushed endgames
Hahaha :)... and yeah agreed, will definitely up the time next go around
Subbed due to the other guy promoting you. Watched 2 videos. Playing against bots is lame af. sorry man.
REDEAL/REDEALS/REDEALT*** being phony is so bizarre to me
They are all playable words, at least in Collins, not sure about NWL
Was puzzled by that comment too. Weird
I really enjoyed watching this game. Giant Scrabble is fun..! More of this for sure. Still want to see a modified tile game with maximum number of blanks.. any chance??
@@marksmith2975 Check this out! kzhead.info/sun/q89udLORaZ5rl68/bejne.html Quackle won't allow more than 39 blanks, unfortunately
