That Tincup bottle shot was nuts. That lens seems incredible. Also, would be good to have more discussions about image quality with cameras, in general, that is not about megapixels. Something that you touched on here… I think we have gone down a path where discussions about image quality end up circling back to megapixels. Clearly, colour science, color, separation, tone separation, which this camera seems to have lots of and positive ways, feels more important. There seems to be a price we are paying for all those extra megapixels. Not sure if that is true? Not just about more noise. More about loss of colour separation and banding in image.
The r3 is a beast, I own this camera it is next level .

This was a great review. This guy knows his photography, I could listen to him all day. Having tried both R5 & R3 I gotta say the R3 ergonomics are second to none and bigger lenses balance out so much better on R3. I didn't have time to check out things like Eye-control AF but yeah the smart controller is definitely a game changer. Overall the whole R3 experience is a joy and makes the R5 feel a little cramped and prosumer-ish.

Great content ~ picking up a used 2000 shutter count R3 in two days. Have most RF lenses as I’ve been shooting with the R5 the past two years! South Africa trip March 2024 so my setup: R3 ~ RF100-500 R5 ~ RF 28-70 RF 2X Extender Tripod Monopod for low angles if I can’t leave the vehicle
In the first week I had the R3 I hated it and was leaning toward returning it. But, as I learned more about it and the new tech (previously used a 1Dx MII), the more comfortable I got. It was just bad timing because I was in the middle of basketball season. One huge drawback is it is not compatible with the lighting system/transmitter I have used for years and can no longer shoot high-speed sync. I also don't like the blackout in the viewfinder when I'm firing away. It's a great camera tho. I enjoy how much lighter and smaller it is than the Mark II. I did quickly lose my hot shoe cover, so keep an eye on those!
The R3 is a a little monster…an OVERPRICED little monster but still! 😊
You want to be careful with that spray around your lenses 😉Some repellents can strip the protective coatings on your lenses creating irreversible damage.

This was a really good review. I never thought about the Canon R3 being a one-off camera. But then again from everything I've listened to this camera possibly may have been originally the R1 but because it didn't quite shine bright enough up against a Sony they made it into a R3 so now I can of kind of believe it will be just a one-off camera. I have been using this camera since January of 2023 and I have nothing but excellent things to say about it. Note I only use it to shoot sports. I've shot baseball all year starting back in late February all the way up until the end of October. It has not failed. I shoot up to four games a day with nearly 3,000 frames per game. I have paired this camera with the RF 1200mm f/8.0 lens and my EF 400mm f/2.8 and my EF 70-200mm f/2 8. If this is going to be just a one-off camera well they did a great job and maybe I won't need to buy the R1. Maybe I'll just buy a couple of more R3's and call it a day. It's funny I don't see very many reviews about this camera that often. But I will tell you this much it was worth every penny I paid for it.
That's a story that's been going around social media, but totally untrue. Anyone who knows Canon has always known that the R1 would be released for the 2024 Olympics. That's been their pattern for releasing flagship cameras for a long time now. The 1dx iii was released for the 2020 Olympics. It's scheduled four year run is coming to a close, so time for the R1. Trust me. It was the plan all along.
How is it lightroom? I like opening up shadows a lot and bringing back highlights.
Image quality comparison to the Sony a7iv uncompressed raw would be great!’😊
I wonder what a pro photographer would really rate the R3 camera. Just really curious on their opinion you know.

@@summitbid specs and megapikles funny mindset of an amature thinking. I was thinking more on journalistic work and not the consumer level. Guess you really don't know what "pro" means. Working Pro on a journalistic stand point is different to your type of consumer pro. Like this review which is basically just a consumer pro review nothing of actual real world usage.

What is the difference between the r3 and the r5? Besides the 20 megapixels
Speed of shutter, rolling shutter, dynamic range in video, battery life, overheating management
The R3 has better color science better lowlight, no over heating issues, generally faster not just in fps but also start up time and in the menus. better ergonomics. Honestly, it would be a great topic for a video in the future, I use both regularly!
The R3’s stacked sensor is the main advantage it has. Faster redoubt speed means you can use the electronic shutter, even for fast action. Rolling shutter is not an effect, but the way the sensor records images. It reads from top to bottom, which is why there can be distortion when panning, or a, for eg, a ball or racquet moves quickly across the frame when using cameras like the R5, R6 etc.
@@summitbid Better color science, really? Is it skin tones or perhaps more accurate AWB? I would love to see a video comparing both. I really want an R3 for the ergonomics and stacked sensor, but the 45MP on the R5 is so clutch for crop work. For video I think the gap in between 6K and 8K is much less important but again a comparison would be interesting. Also Cined lab tests does show much better DR in video in favour of R3. DR in Clog3 kinda sucks so that's a very nice plus.
I just purchase the R3. I have a 5D Mark IV and I think the R3 is the replacement for this camera. The R1 (when it comes out) will replace the 1D.
Interesting thought! I don't Disagree! In terms of resolution it is kinda a 5d mark iv replacement but it does have the agility of the 1d series. I certainly agree that the R1 will be the official replacement, I bet it will have a lot more mega pixels and innovation.
What? The R3 is nothing like the 5d4 in form factor, function, speed etc. they are built for different purposes.

Hahaha, the R3 is not a replacement for the 5D Mk IV. It’s far closer to the 1DX. When the R1 comes out the R3 will make a great second camera.
