As an Avs fan you change goalies and nothing changes in that series. Colorado outplayed the defence and forwards in Winnipeg's zone. Can't blame the goalie when any other goalie would let in the same goals
That got outplayed in every aspect of the game. Goal tending, offense, defense, special teams, and coaching. People can make arguments about who the better team is but I don't think there's even a conversation about who's mentally stronger
All to blame? No. But he certainly shoulders some of it. The Hellebuyck can do no wrong attitude has to change. We had another starting backup we could have used in games 4 and 5. Hellebuycks not a playoff goalie. Stats tell the truth - he collapsed along with the rest of the team. The best of the best can find ways to win. IE Roy, Brodeur, Hasek, etc.
Hellebuyck allowed quite a few ugly goals but I agree with you that by no means was he the ONLY reason the Jets find their season done after 5 playoff games and almost 30 goals (28 [24 excluding empty netters]) allowed. The segment on the Jets starts 19:45 into the broader OverDrive segment.

I was so tired of Jets fans all season trying to make a case that the Jets were such a deep team and not one that just has an all world goaltender that carries the team. Now we see if the goalie has a few off games, there's just nothing else there, the defense sucks and the offense can't generate anything.
The team is deep, defense might be mediocre instead of great but the problem is the god awful coach that every Dallas fan tried to warn Jets fans about. What kind of coach says during playoffs that he'd rather lose than change the way team does things? Bednar said Avalanche had to change their forecheck against Jets but their coach keep doing things the same exact way out of stubbornness and throws players under the bus (see Vegas last year).
@@benteke6948 I don't know that you can say the team is deep and then say the defence is mediocre. I'm not sure you can blame this on the coach, though I'm sure he has a role to play, the players didn't bring enough effort when it was required.
Not a jets fan but they did have 6 players score over 20 goals and they are in fact one of the most sound defensive teams in the league.
@@ozzydo2314 You're looking at the regular season, they had players that played well at various times when the games didn't matter as much. Truly sound defensive teams don't usually give up 28 goals in 5 games when they matter most. Feels more like they relied heavily on a world class goaltender that faltered for 5 games and exposed the weaknesses.

It wasn't all on hellebuck. What happened was Colorado took hellebucks eyes away and Winnipegs D was too small to clear the front of the net out. Colorado knows how to take a goalies eyes away.
Hellebuck has 3 of 4 last playoffs where his save percentage was below 900. Terrible. He is not a playoff goaltender. Sucks they are glued to a long contract. That’s is terrible. He is a nice guy but that contract will hurt them. They need some scoring power. They could make a trade for Marner for some good defensive players to the leafs.

Cujo belfour potvin all were great goaltenders and that’s why we won in the playoffs. We never had such goaltender who can steal a game. Woll is the closest thing we got now. He can grow into that. We need to slowly improve the defence but with good goaltending we can cover up the mistakes with defence.
I would honestly say Reimer almost carried us in 2013 to the second round I mean that team was not very good and we had good goaltending for the most part and look where it got us… we shouldn’t have made it past 5 games
@@twinesniper8247reimer got shafted by the Leafs. That 2013 team shouldn’t have been in the playoffs and he got them there. Then the entire team collapses and he got the blame and they replaced him with Bernier
There's no sugar coating, Samsonov is streaky. The goals he's allowed in these playoffs were suspect. Yes, he played well in game 2 but you need a goalie to play well for 16 games to win the prize. By this percentage, Samsonov will give you 1 good game for every 3 bad or average games; that's just not good enough.

A full team effort, depth players and a solid goaltending performance got them the win last night, and if their big boys continue to play and produce they'll get another win. The PP has to start converting and the PK has to be better, or that's going to be the end of them. Also we've see enough of Domi already to know that it's time to resign Max to 4m per × 5yrs already. He's not afraid to go to the greasy area's and dig out the puck, and he's a great set-up guy who can play center or on the wing, anywhere from the first line to the third. Give him his 4 million per year, on a 5 year deal, get it done already. Go Leafs Go
There is no hindsight. I said to play WOLL before game 1. He had better numbers in his last 2 games than Sammy going into the playoffs and is the overall better goalie.

Avs fan here. I'll give my series opinion on hellebuyck. Game 1: maybe he could've stopped goal 1, should've had goal 3 Game 2: goal 1 shouldnt happen, obviously goal 3 was on him Game 3: maybe goal 1 (poor rebound control) im not sure why he's on the ice for goal 3 but i don't know if it makes a difference Game 4: i think goal 3 is a save he should make (similar to game 1 goal 1) Game 5: goal 2 maybe a poke check to put the puck in the corner but i think thats hindsight Overall i think he cost them game 2 but i don't think the series was on him

The one thing we can learn from last game is that rest of the team can play good given then chance so we can’t keep giving all the main minutes to the superstar. Mix up the lines and balance the time. These guys looked like Florida

No the team is not good enough. BTW, the fact that Joe Wall hadn't played b4 is another Keefe fail. If they lose the series he should be fired. If they win and lose against Florida he should be fired as well. He's made so many mistakes it's unbelievable. Not an NHL calibre coach.

Absolutely not. people that dont understand why the regular season stats dont matter in the post season should learn from this series. Playoff hockey means there is no room 5 on 5. The avs were suffocating them offensively. Special teams and defense are crucial. Without those key components on lock you are leaving your goalie up to dry and exhausting the hell out of your defense. Simple as that. When you have a coach that rather play close to his chest than leave it all out on the line this is what you get. Bowness had every opportunity to get with his coaching staff and change the penalty kill all season long, as it didnt just suddenly start to be bad, it always has been.
Leafs mental state is bad at home because of the pressure to win and rude remarks by fans during games when they fall behind. Fans need to support the team and team needs to stay away from media. They should not watch tv at all

If Hellebuyck had a 3.0 GAA, I suspect the series is still 4-1 Avalanche.
Hellebuyck could have played better, but he's not the blame for the loss. The team in front failed him. They were constantly getting caved in because they couldn't manage the puck and kept losing battles. The number of high danger chances they kept giving up was shockingly bad. You keep giving up high danger chances, it will not matter who the goalie is, the puck is going into the net. In Game 4, there was a stretch in the first period where the Jets were outshot 13-1. The score could have been 10-1 if it wasn't for Hellebuyck. The Avs players just kept pushing the Jets' players off the puck like it was child's play.
Noodles is covering for hellebuck. The guy sucked. He is to blame. Number 1 reason is him. It’s unacceptable. 3 of 4 last playoff years he has had less than 890 save percentage. Not possible to win with that kind of save percentage in playoffs.
He is the vezna regular season but he is not a playoff goaltender

Noodles - listen to statistician Steve Valiquette on why Woll should have started from beginning and Samsonov is too inconsistent to be a playoff goalie AT ALL...Better yet - have him on the show to explain it to you..Woll got more difficult starts than Woll when he came back - but Keefe should have already known Woll was the guy - the only consistent high -level guy you have - and your job was to get Woll ready for playoffs.

There is no way lefts would have been down 3-1 if Woll was in net. Samsonov was not good even last season. Save percentage below 890. Not acceptable. Caps gave up on him for the same reason. He has never stolen any games.

The answer to your video title is YES. Not 100% obviously, but certainly a good chunk. Hot goalies win cups for teams every season. Helle-overated never will.
Kuemper was never "hot" when avs won the cup 2 years ago, made crucial saves at the right times and avs just outscored everyone they played against

i am and avs fan but it was men against boys, hayes and odog always blame goalies, goalies cant make saves all the time, the team defense sucked, the avs destroyed the defensive game of the jets if the jets kept them more out side and trapped the neutral zone it would have been closer, hayes and odog saying that makar shot cant go in i would bet any money that that shot gos in on any goaile i was a seeing i shot and the release angle was crazy, if the team infront of the goalie sucks the goalie is gonna suck also and the jets sucked that series
Noodles in the goalies union 😏🤣, everytime I defend a netminder I always got u a goalie and u in the goalie union 😏, yes Hellerbuyck didn’t play as consistent and as good as he has in the past or can but he still made some outstanding saves and was unlucky on a few goals but bcoz he never stole a game and he is getting the Vezina again this year he is going to get the most criticism the buck 😜 stopped with him so to speak 😏 but his team didn’t really help him the Jets had depth they had I think 12 players who had double digit goals, the better D & far better netminder or was it that they just lost to the SC champs again 🤔 crazy series didn’t the Jets totally outplay AVs in regular season beating them 7-0, I’m not convinced with Georgiev I need to see him against Vegas to make my mind up Avs can beat Oilers, Panthers or Canes, imagine playing NY in SC finals going back to play his former team I got a sneaky feeling it could be a repeat of the 96 SC finals, but Georgiev is no Patrick Roy & but SB is probably as good if not better than the Beezer!
