Yesterday I had to say goodbye to my best friend. Maple passed away peacefully during the night, while I held her in my arms. We have spent every moment together for over 12 years, doing everything together. I adopted her from a rescue shelter and the first time we met she tackled me, leaping into my arms, wagging her tail so hard and with a smiling face full of love. We went on so many adventures together, and she was always there for me with her unconditional love through difficult times. Music helped to soothe and comfort her, especially when she was feeling anxious during thunderstorms and fireworks so I would play for her to help calm her down. She would lay beside me with her head in my lap and listen to the guitar until she fell asleep. I feel so lucky to have had her in my life, the bond we shared is indescribable and my heart is aching.
There are a lot of videos that I filmed with Maple which I never posted on KZhead, or videos I didn't finish editing, that I might release in the future. I hope that some of the moments we shared together over the years have helped to bring some joy or comfort to you. Thank you for the love and support you have shown us.

Had no idea who this dog was 10 minutes ago and now I'm bawling my face off. My kitty is getting older and I know he won't be around forever... I'm just dreading the first day I wake up and my little tuxedo boy isn't there to greet me when I get up. I'll be a wreck because he's helped me get through some dark times. My family lost our dog a year and two weeks ago today. We had rescued him when I was ten years old and basically had him my entire adult life. My folks had just gotten back from their anniversary vacation the night before and he had been so happy to see them. That was the last time I got to see him as he had to be rushed to the hospital the next day before I woke up. It hurt. It still hurts. But the fact that it hurts so much makes me happy because it means he knew how much my family loved him. but I just wish I'd gotten to see him one more time...

My dog of 15 years just passed away as I watched her take her last breath. God it hurts. Yes she lived long for a large dog but it still feels much too short… yes she had a beautiful life but there could have been more beauty. At least she’s now giving company to my dad… I guess that’s good.

@@shahiiragi615 I felt that pain too when I had to put my girl down...but looking back on it now, my desire to keep her alive longer, maybe prolonged her suffering a few weeks more than I should have. Luckily I have a strong wife, and she got through to me to just let the circle of life happen. My only regret is that I wasn't strong enough and I was selfish, because I wanted her around forever. It's life. I still kick myself for those last two weeks. That beats me up more now than her passing.

My dog is being put down tomorrow. This brings me some comfort in this difficult and emotional time. She’s been there for me when I was sad. She’s brightened my day by wagging with joy in the window whenever I got home from school. She helped my family overcome the grief of losing a brother years ago. I had no idea how much the love of a dog could change you until I first met her as a puppy to now when I’m nearing my 20th birthday. Watching her age and get sicker in her final months was so painful, but I will be at peace once I know she’s in heaven safe and sound. The thing about losing a beloved pet is that it never gets any easier. I’ll trust that god will help me pull through and I will be able to find love and companionship in a pet of my own someday. Regardless, she was my childhood dog, and I will forever be thankful that she changed my life for the better. I love you, Aubrey. Be a good girl up in heaven, will you?

I have a depressive personality and often fixate on the fact that I won't have my dog forever. But I'm realizing that this worry is robbing me of the current moment, when I have him. I'm trying to be better about accepting death as part of life and knowing not to take what I have now for granted OR treating it as this fragile thing and fixating on when it ends. When the day comes I'll want to know that I was truly present with my best friend.

My puppy of 14 years crossed Rainbow Bridge today…Buddy was a great friend and always loved us unconditionally. I hope he felt the same way. His suffering is over and we hope he waits for us at the door like he always does. Rest in peace little puppy. You will be missed.

I’ve been Going through something pretty messed up the past year. But maples love always brings a smile to my face. Those few seconds I get to smile again always force me into a state of gratitude and unconditional love. Ty for those few seconds I get before I go back to my life.
