    • I’m buying one but I’m not sure about size. What does 42 mm mean? Is that the thickness of the shank? I have some 18 inch thick pieces of wood to cut

  • I bought one of these to split very short (6" long) oak "logs" into kindling size for my pizza oven. Works fine for this sort of stuff, but be aware of this: the bit screws onto the shank, so you cannot back it out if it gets stuck in a larger log!

      @rollzolo@rollzolo Жыл бұрын
    • @@rollzolo Here's a follow-up-heads-up. Hope it's not too late. I must have had the perfect log to test it on, because NOTHING else in my woodpile will split with this. Not coarse grained logs, not fine grained. The splitter jams in the wood so bad I have to get a pipe wrench on it. That is IF you can hold on to your piece. My 1/2 drill with a side handle will jam and rip your arm off before it will split anything. My 1/2 hammer drill won't even split most of the stuff I have. I've tried end-splitting, side splitting, side splitting a 1/2 log. Forget it. This looks good on paper, but sucks in reality.

    • @@FisherCatProductions All depends on the machine used - works best on a slow RPM high torque machine. With the the SDS bit, use it with the hammer function on. Generally you want it to turn so slow that you could basically grip it with your bare hands without it burning your skin off. At that speed you wont need to worry about it ripping your arm off either just focus on driving through. If the torque isn't good enough try using an impact wrench instead.

      @picketf@picketf10 ай бұрын
    • @@picketf I already tried my high-torque, slow RPM hammer drill. It will bury itself then twist the wood out from under my feet. If I could anchor it to the garage floor it would spin ME around. Worthless POS on most of various species of firewood I have.

  • I used a 1/2" Milwaukee hammer drill. The bit got stuck in the wood, pulled the drill out of my hand and spun around the power cord on the bit and shorted out the drill. These bits will only work under the strictest parameters. Even the stars have to be in perfect alignment for this to work as intended. Not recommended.

    • Even an SDS hammer drill, which is what this bit is meant for won't split any logs. It will just have more force which will break your bones quicker than a regular cordless drill.
