I hope you enjoy this long and chatty junk journal made out of and old book tutorial. This book was literally headed to the trash at my local Friends of the Library Used Bookstore. So it was fun to breathe new life into the cover and upcycle it into a creative style junk journal. I also show how to make easy no sew journal pockets, how to seal a journal cover, how to apply metal hardware, and how I create a rounded lace spine.
I have an easy, removable journal charm tutorial coming very soon! Be sure to save this video to come right back to where we leave off🍄
If you have any questions please leave them in the comments below:)
I created this handmade, upcycled journal from and old book to use as my new personal junk journal. The theme is butterflies and mushrooms. The pages are all vintage except the cardstock I used to create pockets🍄

  • What a gorgeous journal. I love the way you put the View Master on the edge as a spinning tab. The vintage ribbon tabs are fantastic, too. Love the cover and the great combination of papers you've tucked inside.

It’s easy to get lost down a “rabbit hole” while scrolling but I have subscribed to your channel and turned on notifications so I know when you’re on or when you’ve posted a new video! Thank you!

  • Wow, the time flew by quickly. I watched while eating a salad and I couldn’t look away. For me the most important part was the part you were hesitating to include. To watch you try to figure out how to decorate the cover, was so valuable to me. I got into junk journaling to try to overcome perfectionism. It’s helping. But what I haven’t’ tackled yet is developing my own process. To watch you play around a bit was extremely educational. Now to find your removable charm tutorial….thank you!

I have located a hard cover book that I wish to turn into an Ephemera Journal and was unsure the best way to go about what was needed to assemble it and what supplies would work best for durability and function. Thanks again for spending your time to put this project together.

  • I don't understand how anyone could ever throw away a book! 🤦🏽‍♀️ I just took a truckload of books from my grandparents house. My sister said to take them to goodwill... no way. There are books from the late 1800's in there, and as 'new' as the late 1980's. There were books published from 1901-1926 and books that my grandfather had when he was in elementary school in Scotland. Some of them, I know I absolutely won't be able to tear apart for journaling... but throwing out a book seems so absurd to me. 🥺

  • An alternative to Mod Podge is Heat and Bond iron-on fusible interfacing. I use this with fabric and book covers, chipboard, and cardstock. It grips really well and is so smooth when ironed down. You can even get into the gaps between the spine and covers and fuse a real hinge.

And it was a extremely pleasant video to have on as I'm currently working on a journal... and I have no particular plan at all, whatever calls to me as I make it, well, then that's the direction I continue or switch my trajectory. I enjoy making journals like this, it's very therapeutic. I LOVE that viewmaster tab! And to not just staple it in, but use a brad so it can spin! Love, love, love it! • I followed your tutorial step-by-step the only issues I had was making the card stock pockets my paper started to be wavy I had to put them underneath something until the paper was dry to straighten them out my book was bigger than my card stock so I had to start all over again with another board a smaller one. But all in all it was a very good tutorial thank you very much for sharing
