  • These are terrific tips. You may have mentioned this already but always throw in your crossbody/carryon one of those little packable nylon grocery bags that fold to the size of like a deck of cards, so if you have to suddenly gate check your carryon suitcase, you can quickly stuff that little nylon grocery bag with anything in your suitcase you don't want away from you in the belly of the beast (medications, spare set of clothes, etc).

  • Great tips. I always pack a spare set of clothes in my personal item, including pants. After having a drink spilled in my lap inflight I added spare pants to my personal item packing list. I’m glad I did, when it happened again on a long haul flight I was able to easily change.

  • Absolutley DO NOT wear that passport bag string around your neck! It can and will be cut on the train in India, the pocket pulled up, and the whole thing stolen! If you fall asleep, this will be a very foolish thing to wear. Wear a pocket that attaches to your bra straps and can be worn under your shirt. RFID safe and zippered.

  • I debated buying the seat/tray cover. It’s a fantastic idea. Last minute I bought a slim seat travel pouch. Throw some essentials in there. You can put it in the seat pocket. I had room to keep it next to me. Turned out it was good I had it. Way home I was next to a mom with 2 young young kids. I’m normally extremely helpful, but I wasn’t too keen on the situation. Few deceitful things. I kept quiet, but I couldn’t access my tray table bc the lap baby’s head was blocking it. (Head or feet were in my lap the entire time.). I could get to my essentials bc I had this slim pouch next to me. Just another idea.

  • I love that tray table cover to organize all my in-flight essentials, if I have a seat in front of me. But I often pay extra to get a bulkhead seat, which means no seat in front and just the tiny magazine rack stapled to the bulkhead. Also, everything has to go in the overhead compartment instead of the floor in front of me. In that case, I find that 3 zipped tablet case you were talking about a year or two ago to be ideal for my in flight comfort essentials and a thin paperback. I move the in flight magazines to the overhead bin to make room for it. Everything else, like snacks, can fit in the pockets of my 17 pocket travel vest. If flying in warm weather, instead of a T shirt, I pack 3 or 4 translucent gauzy tops that slip over top of the tank I wear as part of my in flight outfit. They fold down in no more space than a large silk scarf. That way, I get a lot of outfits in a very small space. BTW, those boxes of very tiny Lindt chocolate bars are perfect for in flight snacks 🙂 I would always wear something that allows me to put valuables in my pockets if I have to leave my seat - I never leave valuables unattended, however nice my seat mate might seem! I got that purse hook on your recommendation, btw, and have had so many positive comments from people. I use it mostly to keep my purse off the table during our church soup suppers/Bible studies, so it doesn't get someone's soup spilled on it. Those Vera Bradley purses are hard to clean! I definitely recommend carrying individually wrapped alcohol wipes for your tray table, arm rest, and head rest (people forget about the head rest, but trust me, some of the folks I've encountered on planes, you do NOT want to be resting your hair where they've had theirs for several hours! That can be a great way to catch head lice. Ick!) Individually wrapped ones are much easier to deal with than resealing packages while you and everyone else on the plane are trying to get settled, and a box will last you a long time. A tip to making the getting everything settled and sanitized process go more quickly is to tuck a doggie waste bag into the cuff of your sleeve prior to boarding, then it is handy to whip out to put in your used wipe, and to gather up any other waste during the flight.

  • Lori, love your videos. I wish I could justify the national park packing cubes, I have two sets already from Tripped. A couple of things that I have found useful when traveling, one is the Gravel travel blanket. I am a colder sleeper, this blanket is very warm and very light weight. It has pockets for your feet, a snap that you can snap up around your neck. It also has a zip pocket that is next to your body when your feet are in the pockets. The blanket can also be folded into the pocket for a pillow. When I slept on my flight to Scotland I placed my passport and wallet in the pocket so it is next to my body. Gravel is a small relatively new business. The two gentleman started the company because they couldn’t find a toiletries bag they liked. Medicines for travel, I ordered small pill bottles from Amazon, and asked my pharmacy to print off labels of my prescriptions. Then take only the number of doses for the trip plus two extra doses. The small bottles took up much less room than the one size my pharmacy uses.

  • That tray cover with the POCKETS is my big must-have. I need my glasses, water, wipes, devices/cords/earbuds, maybe snacks, at hand, and the airplane seat pockets will not hold them. And you can’t really get into your bags easily. I don’t care about the tray cover itself, but the pockets are great.

  • Hi! Leaving for London in a few weeks and taking so many of your ideas with! What my pharmacist did for me is print out the sticky bottle labels so I can put it on little baggies with the meds in them. Then pop the meds in their strip when I get to my destination. I pack a 2 day supply in a small bag for the flight. I have those compression bags, courtesy of watching one of the first videos you did, they work great! I tell everyone to watch your tips as they are so good!

  • I’ve been watching your packing videos since 2017 (usually to travel to London for multiple weeks ) my 1st us to uk trip was a nightmare bc I packed a giant suitcase (2 week trip ) that was lost (of course) I ended up having to buy a days worth of clothing in Oxford ( UK) I was so tired of lugging this huge suitcase I donated almost all my clothes to bring back gifts etc) The net summer I found your channel ~ WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I was planning and now am proud to say I have a travel capsule wardrobe I keep near my carry on ( even my travel pro carry on was bc of your recommendation) I’m going to visit my son in NYC in 3weeks so I’m back to ask Laurie what she’d pack You’re the best thing to happen to my traveling . • I have the same backpack and compression cubes and they all are great -- high quality and nice looking as well. Many thanks for all your wonderful tips and hacks. For the airplane seat back pocket I use one of my thick vinyl zip-lock bags (meant for food to eliminate the single use plastic bags) -- it's large enough for my iPad mini and also can hold my phone, chewing gum, notebook, pens, small water bottle... whatever I might need for my 10+ hour flight to Europe. It keeps my things from getting lost in the deep pocket and getting dirty from... whatever!!! And I can wash it if necessary as well.

  • Because of your channel, I have started packing extra clothes in a packing cube. I can cram it at the bottom of my personal bag and it takes up very little room. I also pack travel size skincare including some cotton balls, Qtips, and makeup remover wipes, because I don’t want to be without those, either. I never know with the airlines anymore if my luggage will arrive at my destination!

  • I did use an airplane tray cover for my long flights to/from Japan, the little hooks work great, I used a small crossbody to hold cards and passport for convenience and suggest the forward sleeping blowup pillow instead of neck pillow because it's a more natural position so your back will not hurt. I did like the travel hanging bag you recommended and used the clear removable section for essentials in my crossbody.. I ended up rolling my clothing, the packing cubes made it too bulky and it was easier to fill in gaps with smaller items. I only brought one pair of shoes that I had to throw out and buy a pair of Hoka in Japan because you walk everywhere and a lot of stairs. Noise canceling headphones and sleep mask a must. Water bottle and snacks in personal item as well. Hand wipes to clean your plane area must bring. I used the eyeglass wipes not the peeps. Agree that you need face/hand lotion, eye drops and lip moisturizer. I did have to put my cross body in my carry on.

  • All great tips and I'll have to check out that cup holder. The best tip you said is to really consider if you truly need that item you are packing. I've really helped myself from over packing by taking the time to see if what is needed vs wanted, and if I have something that has multiple uses so to reduce the amount of items packed.
