    • loving that floor. Did I see little spacers put down as they are laid, that are then removed when grouting goes in? If so that demystifies a lot. I am endlessly fascinated to learn everything, for when my won opportunity arises. :) ( I typo'd won. I meant "own" but am leaving "won" as a kind of happy magnetizer. 😍

  • This is one of the best channels on life in Portugal for two reasons. First, you actually interact and have developed relationships with the Portuguese people around you. So many other channels in Portugal show no relationship with the country and the people. Which beggars the question: Why Portugal?? Portugal is an amazing country not just because of it's gorgeous geography and well-preserved history but mostly because of it's wonderful people. More of that ought to be highlighted in Life-In-Portugal videos, in my opinion. The second reason is you demonstrate how having children does not interfere with life, but actually enhances it. The modern ethos is that one can't have children until everything is built, created, put together and grown. Not so. Most of us wouldn't be here if our ancestors thought that way and children derive enormous benefit from spending time with their parents watching them build things. Overall, your inspiration to viewers is not just taking an overgrown dilapidated farm, rebuilding it and living sustainably, the true inspiration for viewers is watching a real family work together in a beautiful country with a foreign language and marvelous people. Can't wait for that episode when you produce your first jug of vinho tinto and invite all your Portuguese neighbors and friends to join you in raising a glass!

    • Agree with your sentiments regarding the Newbys but there are other channels where hosts interact with friends and neighbours. Helping them with their projects, working together and sharing when they can. Luke and Sarah Off Grid and Project Portugal are two.

  • Your channel is one of the best story tellers on KZhead. I've been pondering why. I think part of the answer is that you interweave your individual thoughts and experiences with those that bring you into collaborative moments with compromises thrown in as needed. It works marvelously well.

Continued this after she was born until she could read on her own and then she would read to me. She turned her passion for reading into a career and is now a PhD Candidate at only 25 years old. Crusoe especially after missing your last chicken and duck will be great at helping with raising them. He’s sounding like a much bigger boy btw - His vocabulary and pronunciations sound great! Also the tiny house looks amazing - the skylights is such a game changer and agree they should be above the windows - makes the room look so much bigger. • All my nieces and nephews were read to from babyhood. Today, I'm happy to say, all are readers. Projects: "Life is what happens while you're working at your coming together!" Or, my favorite, "If you want to hear God laugh, tell him you've got plans!" A flagstone floor would be useful, and better yet, it's movable when you decide the green house would be better "over there". Don't you sometimes wish you really could flip a switch and work at fast foreward? What a time saver that would be! You're both doing marvelously well! Can you hear us cheering you on? Go Newbys!!!!!

A luv of books & reading is so important to instill when our babes are young - keep up the great work. Brilliant job John, with the skylight - it's going to look awesome in the Tiny House. Tara - so will the Greenhouse too - those kits are always made to do your head in - I can't wait to see it completely - bugger the rain interrupted the progress - but you'll get there, of course in the end. But he persevered and it turned out great! He put pine needles down in the isles and they made such a nice carpet! Nice to kneel in and smelled so good when the sun warmed them! 🥰 I am so glad to see the wonderful values you are teaching your children. Nature is tops, working with family and neighbors, reading to them and learning to love good wholesome food! With the reading, we actually read above their age some. It was amazing how fast they learned They are both good readers and learners. 😊

  • Tara, you are looking amazing. John, you are sooo lucky that a) that skylight fitted 1st time and b) that you got it in before the rain. I think having the sky lights in line with the windows is the right idea. It will make it look very professionally done. The 1 skylight and paint on the walls have made it look much bigger. I have to admit i am not an instruction reader.(i call them destructions as that is what they appear like). The green uoyse will definitely be worth it. Little Sawyer gas got his dad's strawberry blond hair. I adored how Crusoe was so concerned about Lola's "baby's head being wet. I think he will grow up to be a gentleman who will respect women and who will have learnt from his dad how to treat women correctly. He and Sawyer (and any further babies you may have) are also going to grow up knowing the joy of reading. I loved reading to my niece, and she in turn reads with her sons. Lovely video again See you Wednesday. X

Your skylight is tremendous and the greenhouse will be too, although I thought it would be bigger, chicken coup is next as John funny acted out behind you Tara, nice that your friends from the UK came to help at an opportune time and brought a little friend for Crusoe too, Crusoe and Lola joy to see them playing. All goes well on the Newby farm. Planting you tomatoes next. See you next Wednesday 🇵🇹🏡👏👍🤗🙏💖🌺🦋☺️

  • I`ll be honest, at first, I wasn`t paying much attention to your channel as I was following too many similar "life in Portugal" channels. Now, a few months later, yous is one of the few I watch, and for many reasons. First, you`re in the north. Most are in central Portugal and since I`m from Porto and know Amarante fairly well (dated a chick from there and cracked my head in the river as a kid just to point a few memories xD ). Second, you have kids. A family. You show the struggles, how it is possible to combine all. You interactions with locals and wanting to be much more active within the community and not get stuck in your own bubble like many. You clearly don`t make KZhead videos just for the money (don`t blame you if you do a bit as it is fair). You remind me a lot of one of my favorite channels - Farmer For Life. If not familiar, check them out. You can learn a lot about farming. I also follow Life by Living and ditched a few, specially one that I got very disappointed with their "grandeur" and money-driven "off grid" luxury life. Keep being real, humble, funny, inspiring and an example to your boys. They will grow up with such good values. By the way, not sure if you do but try to also get Crusoe involved with other children from the community as it will help him develop his portuguese, which will make it a lot easier when school time arrives. Maybe getting him on pre-school will get him the best of both worlds and will free you two up for a few hours.

    • Hi César, wow thank you for such a lovely comment. We are so appreciate of your support. Putting Crusoe in a pre-school would be great, they only accept kids from the age of 3. So we will definitely look at that next year as we agree with you, it is such a great way for him to learn the language. We have also asked Joao to speak to Crusoe in Portuguese when he is with him, so that he can start learning a little bit. Thanks so much for watching friend ❤️🇵🇹

  • Try to grow "coração-de-boi" tomatoes. Typical of your region (North Portugal) and are simple the best ever. Just available and worth to buy during summer (grown organically), when you can buy them in local markets directly from the producers/farmers. They are always more expensive than other varieties, but are totally worth every single cent.

  • Hello little family, surely you didn't do all that in the tiny house in just one day? If you lived in time lapse world I'd understand, but real time? Crusoe is showing himself to be extraordinarily clever with speech, understanding the world around him, and recognition, understanding humour is a sure sign of a clever young Newby, it shows just how important good parenting is and you two have certainly proven that, it is a real pleasure to be given this opportunity of sharing your journey, just wait until Sawyer gets in on the act, we know nothing of his personality or progress except his gorgeous face that lights up when he smiles which he seems to do readily. See you next time, bravo to the camera people and the editors. Cheers!!🥰💞💕👍💪
