I’m hitting you with the ten best tropes in paranormal fiction! That’s right! We’re talking fantasy religions, folklore, and 1,000 year old vampires trying to learn how to say “Yeet!” The 10th point may not be rocket science, but what paranormal fiction is complete without it? 😈

Some people want sexy werewolves, Jenna wants scary werewolves. But, I want a werewolf... that’s a good boi.
Remus Lupin was a good boy
Me too. Me too.
A good boi who knows how to be scary
Scott from Monster Prom. He is best boy. Literally acts like a puppy.
How about sexy, scary good boi werewolves?
"I wanna hear a centuries-old vampire say yeet." Add that to the list of best Jenna quotes ever!
*Write that down! Write that down!*
Socially Acceptable Pi *tries to grab my pencil, but realizes my hands are lobster claws*
Heck, even I don't know how to use "yeet."
@@watchinglearner Yeet is for distance when throwing something. Not to be confused with Kobe, which is for accuracy when throwing something.
I have vampires though they are not really centuries old, then again I don't remember it's been so long since I spoke to them
"BUT JENNA!" lmao
Domagoj Čović why?
"The human incarnation of a puppy-dog" Quick! Someone draw butters as an adorable human child!
Hinata from Haikyu
@Cory Salter The last name of the Haikyu main character is Hinata. Shoyo Hinata.
I, too, want to hear a centuries old vampire say "yeet"
Jaxx Centuries-old vampire after drinking a person: “This bitch empty. YEET.”
@@vanyavanilla7108 Bruh
Lmao just imagine a crusty ass ancient deity trying to be cool and modern. The absolute embodiment of "how do you do fellow kids"
@@corenlavolpe6143 oh my god I need to write a villain like that :'D
@@rach3092 that would be phenomenal
Heh, damn right monsters are sexed up nowadays. Technically speaking, Dracula was originally envisioned as a grody old man with a very UNSEXY case of Vampirism.
His brides were sensual, though
@@taylor_green_9 Totally! The scene where the protagonist first saw them, it was just so good.
I haven't read Dracula but he was a real person, not a vampire, just a regular dude who put people on spikes while they were alive. His name was Vlad the Impaler.
@@lordodysseus I hate to pull a "Well, actually", but the truth is that when it comes to Dracula the vampire, it's clear that Bram Stoker just took the name "Dracula" and little else. Plus, Vlad the Impaler wasn't the only Dracula, as it means "Son of the Dragon", as his father was part of the Dracul "Order of the Dragon", which included multiple dudes who presumably had sons of their own.
@@lordodysseus There was indeed a real-life Valachian prince called Vlad the Impaler, on whom Bram Stoker based his fictional character Count Dracula. However, the fictional Dracula is an actual, undead vampire who drinks human blood and has magical powers
I feel like Jenna is more interested in hell than the prospect of demons.
Her secret hidden sex dungeon is called "Hell"
holy hell
I love it when the centuries old paranormal is getting schooled about their own race and isn’t having any of it-the snotty brat is preaching about how silver will stop the monster only to be killed by the monster creature who says a salty “well, you’re obviously the expert.”
I like that too, and also when the monester smirk and say that they made that thing up so when humans come try to kill them use everything that is ineffective that the supernaturals themselves made mortal think it's true so they won't be killed easily for mispreperation and the humans would get off the supernaturals back(true blood style)
Ky kisaky Thing is, word of mouth would get out that it doesn’t actually work and that’d most likely spread easier then a monster’s disinformation campaign.
@@j2dragon109 they can kill the people who spread the real information(it reminds me with "upholding the masquerade" concept), or they go on mind controlling spree to get everyoje to think the false informations and spread it.
Ky kisaky Masquerades rarely actually make sense though. And honestly if they can mind control *everyone* without any counters then they don’t really need to lie do they? It helps sure, but it probably wouldn’t be worth the effort, they’re already so much more powerful then humans. Also anyone spreading true information is likely capable of killing the monsters if their information is worth a dam. Still, superstitions would probably prop up, specially if the monster is rare. If they are not though, humans would figure out weakness. I mean, the ones who don’t die and the ones who do (even if it’s just by chance) won’t.
@@j2dragon109 they made it in the lore about the first and second cities whenever the vampires try to unlive with humans in the light everything burns, it happens enough times that the inquisition is the reason why you don't find a lot of vampires who are older than 500 years, almost all elders are below 400 years because of the inquisition + not all vampires can erase memories and a lot of the ones who do couldn't care less if the hunans found about about the vampires they only want to stop gehena(lasombra), or sell drugs do incest and control zombies and spirits to block the sun forever(giovanni), so not a lot of options to mind control people out of it and dominate can get you so far in the memory, sometimes you can't erase far enough ir the humans can block it using anti-vampire faith or some other sh*t that hunters use.
I prefer paranormal grounded in the paranormal of the real world. Like actual paranormal events or photographs. Things like ghosts, miracles, cryptozoologie or vision of the future. Superstition that reasonable people can believe. I also love those tropes.
I want a mug with Jenna's face on it saying "you gonna murder". xD
same
Why are vampires paranormal? I thought they were supernatural. Every time I hear the word paranormal, I think of ghosts.
I can see where you are coming from but this is my interpretation of paranormal and supernatural. Supernatural I always interpret as things that aren't part of the regular normality particularly things related to horror, but for me it means as well things that are horror related before death so stuff like cryptids (The Mothman), serial killers, cults, creatures, demons (potentially by different interpretations), witchcraft ectara. Paranormal is things after the regular normality of death hence the prefix para (Ancient Greek) meaning above and beyond so above death so stuff like zombies, ghosts. So for me if we go by the interpretation of vampires being considered undead it would fall under paranormal. but this is just my interpretation I'm glad other people can have their own ones as well.
Undead are undead
Guys, paranormal means that which we cannot explain CURRENTLY, it's all possible that during the ancient times, thunder and lightning could be considered paranormal. Supernatural, on the other hand, is that which defines our known laws of nature and physics; Zombies are supernatural because they violate death, telekinesis is supernatural because it breaks physics. Etc, etc.
If you want a not-the-worst one of #paranormal Vampire instead of classic, try `The Blackwater Vampire´ (probably at 110% playback speed). Enjoy, or ignore.
Jenna is my biggest inspiration. I'm still learning (I'm 13) but I don't let that stop me from writing a book. Jenna's videos are the biggest help possible. Long live the cyborg queen!
good luck with the book!
Franziska is awesome good luck!
Good luck! And don't let people put you down. :)
Same!! 14 here and my writing has DRASTICALLY improved since I discovered Jenna's channel! Good luck to you :)
afootineachworld I relate to that on an otherworldly level
Ooooooooh paranormal fiction vid, niiiiiiiice. I literally just finished a killer book called Miracle Maiden, and immediately started thinking of it the moment you brought out number 1. The MC gets haunted galore, and this gets explored in page 1, so the book is reaaaaaally firing from the getgo. The haunting speaks to her every night as she sleeps, begging her to open her eyes, always asking her if she’s ready to die. Had a lucid dream that I was the Mc and it was happening to me and actually had a panic attack a few days ago. My first nightmare in forever. 😂 Number 2 reminds me of the book too because it heavily explores the MC getting away from her upbringing, and her parents destructive beliefs. She was heavily abused and so it’s no wonder she hates the beliefs. “He protec” the Antagonist of the story is LITERALLY the MC’s savior at the same time(you’d really have to read it yourself to understand, I can’t explain well😂🤣), which makes for one of the most interesting dynamics to a book I’ve ever seen. It’s something you have to experience for yourself, but their relationship gets super deep. Seriously I love horror and need to find more great ones to read, I can hardly ever find ones I’m into. 😂
Corey Blowers id have a panic attack if that dream happened to me too lmfao
Oh nice, who’s it by?
Izstrella It’s by an author named “Lait Yumemi” on Amazon. I’m not familiar with the author but really enjoyed the book regardless.
As someone currently writing a paranormal book, this was perfect timing (as always) and I was extremely pleased by how many aspects of my story made it onto the list
I love it when you show a different side of something or change someone's expectations. Like pacifist demons or psychotic angels. For example I am writing a story about a realm of angels. These angels were never human, they were born as angels. They have no higher deity, angels themselves are kind of like their own demi-gods. But there is this one angel who believes there is a higher deity, and the only way to get to them is through the sun, so he sacrifices the Prince (aka the angel who protects the sun) to try and get to them, but when he sacrifices him and nothing happens, he realizes he was wrong all along. So yeah, cultist angels!
Pacifist demon: Anthony J.Crowley Psychotic angel: the Archangel Gabriel Good Omens anyone?
I’m totally with you on 4, 7, and 8. Especially 4. I imagine ancient beings adjusting to modern life would be like people moving to a new country without learning the language first.
When it comes to death paranormal fiction needs to establish rules, or at least something so that death has dramatic stakes. Supernatural is infamous for Sam and Dean having an ability to cheat Death that would make Captain Jack Harkness blush. You can’t treat death like it’s a walk to the corner store for a bottle of milk and a newspaper.
Paranorman is literally my favorite just for these reasons. lol!
I dislike boyfriend of the dead. First, she started posting really short filler-esque stuff during the big story, and secondly, the female is literally a psychopath and it's just a joke. Her friends are scared of her. She tortures sentient zombies without any kind of remorse. While it was played for laughs at first, it became impossible to ignore once it was torturing a child. It was like the authors excuse was "but she doesn't know it's a child." But we knew. So we couldn't treat it like the same old joke. Which meant her violent nature was now just who she was.
Jenna, do you have any advice on writing characters with PTSD? How do you incorporate the effect of their past trauma without; One, beating the reader over the head with the information, or--Two, making the PTSD feel like a throw away fact about your character?
The Magnus Archives podcast has the best paranormal stories I've ever heard, and it ticks off a lot of the boxes here. Not only that but the cases are looping and inter-connected in a clever way. The realism of cassette recordings of an archivist who reads paranormal cases is so good, I wish it gets more clout because it deserves it.
I would quote but im to lazy to go check what she actually said, something about werewolves not being able to not kill people and stuff, I have a character that's half werewolf and when she transforms, she has full control, but kills because now she has an excuse and it's fun.
I like it when the main characters know about the monsters and do research. It makes it interesting especially when the monster assumes the characters aren’t as smart as they seem and acts somewhat arrogant. Am I alone here? I might be alone..
hey Jenna, give us your list of your favorite paranormal books, we really do need quality reading content. btw, you're my inspiration❤
Would you do best mystery/detective tropes ?
yesterday i was talking to a friend of mine about mixed martial arts, and he said something i completely disappeared with, and my initial reaction out loud was, “but jennaaaaa...” 🤦🏻♂️
“BUT JENNA” never gets old
I don't think I've ever enjoyed someone talking about death and monsters so much! *lol*
With your comment on animal companions... I get the feeling you already know and read the series, but I think you'll like the Dresden Files! My favourite "Paranormal Fiction" (urban fantasy, to be fair).
4:42 Then you'll love I Am Legend, just recommending my favourite book to the best youtuber.
Demons and religion? I've got you covered with a whole elven pantheon and a character who makes a deal with the elven god of hate and vengeance. Mostly bad things come as a result of it.
That sounds fun ☺
Thanks a lot for this! I'm writing a paranormal mystery book series called "Paranormal Mysteries", and I'm trying to avoid the bad tropes. Your videos helped me a lot. Thanks to you, I now know which tropes to write and which ones to avoid writing down. Thanks a bunch!😊 Good day to you!
Okay, but lowkey, my story has literally every single one of these tropes! I feel so confident now! ^^
I think the bad tropes turned me off of paranormal for a while. Trying to get back into the genre cuz it can get interesting :)
Can I recommend Frozen Charlotte by Alex Bell. It’s a really good paranormal book!
Please do horror tropes next
Jenna you just boosted up my creative juices once again!!!! Thank YOU!!! You have been so much help threw this writer journey!!
Paranormal fiction is always my favorite to write. I always find a way to include it somehow or make it the main plot like with my WIP where a college student gets his soul tied with a kitsune who the gods want dead
Hey, Jenna! I just finished reading Eve: The Awakening and I love it! Keep up the good work!
Jenna Moreci vid for my birthday? I love it! Great vid Jenna!
Hi Jenna! I'm writing a comic book and I'm very inspired by you! I know this isn't about paranormal tropes but I wanted to say that I really love your videos.
This was fun to watch. Thanks for making it Jenna. *thumbs up*
As always your timing is almost uncanny, in the best way! I’m currently working on putting together a paranormal fiction story. Thank you as always! ♥️
love this
Got number 2 in my latest Trilogy. Always great points . Thank you!
Jenna you are a hero . Because you really helped me a lot to write my first book .
i always watch your videos i love it, you are my mentor Miss Jenna love you.
Gosh Jenna, I love you and your part-cyborg advice. I've been writing a story about a cinnamon roll being a bridge with interfering grey Gods, in a world with ghosts, dead creatures and death and human monsters all around. I've been struggling to put it in a genre, because there are murders to resolve, a romantic relationship developing and plenty of adventures. This video was perfect and it really helped me realizing that no matter what themes I want to write and show, the story itself was the perfect example of paranormal story. Thanks and keep up the excellent and most of the time hilarious work with your videos. Just sad there was no cute dog in this one 😉😍
I loved this list and I haven't read particularly many supernatural fiction, so it makes me curious of what your spn reading list looks like
If I had a familiar, I would love them to be a hedgehog.
*Thank you.* 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
It's even creepier when the monster is protected. Like the woman and dog in The Omen.
I so wish you'd give a short list of books you reccomend to showcase your favorite or worst tropes list for each video. I always wanna read the books you are talking about in these lists!
6:02 Not so animal, but my familiars come from some badass races, have epic battles with all sorts of villains and... have some kind of plot armor
"that shit gets me pumped" lol subscribed.
I’m happy that like 3 of your tropes are in a book I’m writing
You want to see centuries old paranormal creatures say MODERN Slang... guess you havent seen alot the old paranormal CW shows... do you even Twilight?? An Humans being the bad guys??? That's an easy one, the Underworld Franchise.an number.. 9 I think, "human's are monster fuckers.." I see Jenna is ALSO a Buffy/Angel fan.
This one slayed it!
Love your channel. I write as a hobby and these videos help me explore various ideas and get a better idea of what I wanna do with a story. Keep up the good work!
🤣🤣🤣 oh, man, i love your sense of humor and have subscribed after this vid
Oh I bet you'll love Castlevania then.
And Hotel Transylvania too, probsbly.
I am officially thrilled that the paranormal fiction I'm working on has most of these. (Also great video!)
Same ☺😊
Thanks to paranormal fiction, Jenna doesn't rot in jail for multiple accounts of murder! Thank you authors!
Very interesting video, I also love paranormal fiction and creepy pasta stories too. I’m actually working on turning my first book into a scary creepy pasta series and this video really helped me out with getting started, thanks 🌟😎💕❤️ great job and well done on the video, I absolutely loved and enjoyed it
This is a great video. Thanks for doing it. Now I don't have to wait till next October.
YEET! Jenna, you so silly! Kind of reminds me of this book I saw in the store I work at that had Dr. Frankenstein on the front cover texting on his phone something to the effect of "I should have thought this through more, dude was fugly." I don't remember the name of the book though.
#7 reminded me of when Berserker failed to protect Illya. At least in UBW.
Thank you Jenna! I think these tropes helped to clarify some genre hard mixing I've been sruggling with. 1 demons: so do you have a definition? 2 religion: some of this (existing and invented) positive:check / negative: check 3 folklore: overdosed on this possibly 4 ancient beings in a modern world: in one series 5 monsters: well you could call them that - in their way 6 monsters are humans: yeah in one book big time 7 monster protecter: kind of - ish 8 familiars: this got subverted pretty hard 9 grey characters: pretty much all of them 10 death: yes, yes, and not quite
😂 this was a great video. Honestly I started a horror that seems to be more on the paranormal wavelength lol
This isn't a novel (although it does have a novel adaptation by the author's brother) but a japanese comic, Devilman by Go Nagai, I think it fits with the humans being monsters thing, not just physically but also metaphorically. The main character merges with a demon in order to protect humanity from the demons that are trying to kill all the humans.
Have you read the Summoning/Awakening/Reckoning series? its all paranormal and they happen to be teenagers. But the werewolf transformation is painful, he's not pretty, but he's a good boy (pun). and he tries to protect people because he strong, but things.
I always talk about my (personal) books with my parents. One time I told them “yeah, so basically humans are the worst and they are kind of like the villains” and they gave me judgmental looks. I’m glad I’m not crazy :)
Jenna video!! No sweeter notification to receive 😄😄😄
hi jenna! Your videos really help me, I'm 13 and trying to write my first book :)
I have a character who is literally a Gaelic Wendigo, a human Highlander turned Wendigo from a set of tragic events occurring throughout a week with the cannibalism part of the wendigo's curse included but with him having something removable to keep himself from losing control and going into a feral-like state that would lead to quite the troublesome issue of a Wendigo with an insatiable hunger basically going on a hunt for anything of flesh. The character I'm talking about is in my channel icon and is also the reason for my channels name.
I completely agree about the monsters being monsters. You'd probably like my werewolf novel St. Martin's Moon since the monsters are monsters, but they also the victims, and protective at times, so it hits three of your items. And ghosts, with death on the Moon. Five of your items. Currently revising it for self publication.
The best part about paranormal books is definitely the killing, folklore, and religion relations to culture. Also human monstrosities, obviously.
Ive started to go into the fantasy and horror genres and I always have fun with creating worlds and stories! This was a very helpful video, so thank you so much for giving me some insight
I never thought of my book being paranormal fiction, but it has aspects of most of these tropes… so, good? Demons, actually evil monsters, etc. feeling good about this
Superb
Reacting to the 1th point. I feel that Doom is a game franchise for you.
Another great video, Jenna! Paranormal is my JAM and I love it soooooooo much. Love you, Jenna! Thanks for the amazing content!
I'm such a sucker for human-ghost romances and I hardly ever seen them done well. It's a doomed kind of romance and that just does it for me.
I'm writing a novel about this very thing. It's why I'm watching this video. It's actually based on a true story.
I am so on board with n°7
You should check out "What We Do In the Shadows". It's a hilarious mockumentary about a bunch of vampire roommates.
I used various of those in my book... it makes me laugh XD. Just love paranormal shit!
I live for these videos
Yay I love those books. Love your videos!
Dear Jenna, can you please create videos about mythology? Best n worst tropes, dos and don'ts, how to create mystery, etc. etc.......
Amazing points 👍
I highly recommend that people look up the Dark Shadows storyline Bloodlust. It’s an audio drama miniseries that has at its core a woman who has been victimised by the supernatural who seeks to take direct action to protect herself and the people of Collinsport. The central theme is that human or supernatural, that doesn’t define whether you’re a monster and at times the entirely human characters are worse than the witch, vampire and werewolf characters. While there are romance angles, it is based on a soap opera after all, it’s not sexualised at all
I subscribed as soon as I heard you swear! 😂 What does that say about me? 🤜🏻🤛🏾💯
As long the story doesn't have sparkly vampires, love triangles or shirtless werewolves.
Maria Paz G. Lesme The Twilight hate is soooo old and cringe culture now. Stop it and get over it already.
Preach.
Its a wolf thing
Stephanie Meyer actually gets credit for doing something cool and unique with vampires. Every vampire book ever has that "What about sunlight? Does it hurt you?" Moment. She could've done any cliche fucking thing but she did some random irreverent shit and said they sparkle. It's random and cool and interesting. I'll take vampires who sparkle and authors who explore new shit any day. Also love triangles can be really well done when every author doesn't hammer out the same outcome and personality types. Cassandra Clare always has a snarky bad boy in her love triangles but they always resolve in new and interesting ways anyway.
How bout shirtless vampires, love dodecahedrons, and sparkly werewolves?
In the original Outer Limits, the Humans were often the bad guys, trying to kill the innocent alien/monster/entity. Great show.
Great video! It made me want to start writing immediately

Would love to know what Jenna thinks of the series Lucifer.
I just don't quite understand why wolves and demons are okay but bears aren't....but we are all different! And I enjoy hearing Jenna's preferences and opinions
Is the Savior's Champion available on rolled up parchment scrolls.
Ahh, many people seem to totally dismiss the idea that paranormal is also fantasy... if it isn't, then I don't know what is. After all, paranormal/supernatural creatures don't actually exist...or do they??? 🤣🤣🤣 Also, shifters who can and do change at will rather than full moon-bound werewolves (that don't interest me at all) are the best! The push and pull between their animal instincts and human natures is such an interesting exploration of what makes us what we are. I do agree that I would like to see more supes in non-romance books, _especially in high fantasy_ though and that's coming from an avid romance genre reader. Going to find out your 'worst of paranormal' vid now... bet it includes some of my favs! TFS :)
