The late, great Erik Bruhn + (without whose professional influence, Nureyev would not have acquired his polish) Regretfully, very little artistry from Bruhn's peak performances are available on film - so his memory is more easily eclipsed by those who followed in his footsteps...

Для всех танцовщиков приходит время уйти со сцены. Но можно просто жить. Когда я смотрю на Рудольфа, мне становится грустно. Будто это цветок, который увял раньше времени.

So great to see that when they do tandem leaps, he is in the air for a lot longer than her, then he quickly makes up for it by hurrying to do it again. Check out his air time during those leaps! Who could possibly match him!

I think the Soloviev/Sizova version of this is much better, inspite of the poor quality recording.

Probably because they had the right coaching. Ulanova and Dudinskaya greatly admired Bournonville and invited Hans Brenaa, ballet master of the Royal Theatre, to Russia to teach. Nureyev on the other hand always wanted to change the steps/add extra tricks and didn't care for style, which would drive Brenaa up the wall, as he was always fighting to preserve the Bournonville ballets exactly as they had been passed on to him.

If you look at the 1962 Nureyev/Maria Tallchief version of this PDD, Rudi is quite excellent. He had just been studying in Denmark with Vera Volkova and Bruhn and was very sincere in studying Bournonville. Sadly, he moved on from that too quickly. Soloviev, a brilliant dancer, was no great Bournonville stylist either. Unfortunately, this version of Flower Festival is from later in Rudi's performance life of endless touring where he was able to mess around with everything and no one held him to a high standard. And, yes, it's a mess.

Why?! In this video has a good technic. His style isn't perfect but he has a great musicality and a great sense of the space. He was a peasant who love dance and one day he became a dancer. Nureyev is a symbolic character. He is a hero. Exploited by Americans. But a Hero. A Hero of your generation. PS My favorite dancer is Peter Schaufuss but I like so much Nureyev style. He is always happy when he dances.

he is awful in this russians can't dance danish style (l am not fan of danish style but here is clear he is not suited ) btw unfortunatly l am old enought to have seen many times nureyev at his time and he was good till half 70's later he was often awful till being unwatchable since early 80's despite he still could fool not expert audiences because his name and fame ,he danced really too much and didn't listen the precious advice of tamara karsavina to dancers LEAVE THE STAGE BEFORE THE STAGE LEAVES YOU .sorry but true

После танца Малахова на это действо не возможно смотреть. Нурееву не хватало академизма, чистоты. Это моё мнение, при нём и останусь, даже не оппонируйте.
