  • Hello from a Montenegrin! I’m so happy you visited Montenegro! It is my home country and my family owns a small summer home across the bay from the old town. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that kitten lady would visit! Welcome and I hope you had a wonderful stay

    • @@kmkm8691 Kotor, Tivat and Herceg Novi are what you are looking for. The fjords crash right into sea and little medieval towns pop up all around the coast. It looks like Norway met the Mediterranean. There is so much clear weather and sun, it would be an enormous contrast to UK. People here are nice and friendly, but our government and infrastructure is a little underdeveloped. Do some research, but i believe you would love it!

    • Stray cat in this warm climate breed very fast. Since an average female cats produces two to three dozens of kittens in their life time, about 95% of kittens die miserable death. It's a vicious cycle with constant death and suffering.

    • There's actually several cat islands in Japan, but they're mostly populated by older people who don't want to leave (in fact, most of Japan's population is elderly). The younger generations have gone to the mainland for jobs. There are a few young people now starting to populate them, but still, donations are how they are able to best care for the cats. Many of the cats there don't look so good because they're not getting the donations they need. People are happy to play with the cats, and that's fine, but the residents just don't have the funding they really need to make a dent in the care and sterilizing really needed. Last I heard, I think Japan's government might be helping out now, but don't quote me on that.

  • The people of Malta also have a similar attitude to cats. In Floriana, there is a designated "Cat Cafe" area by the city walls approved by the council. The cats have shelter, are fed by the locals and receive veterinary care. Else where, strays are fed and shelters are left out for them.

  • Finally! A place where cats are appreciated and loved universally. Cats are such useful, smart and precious creatures and I wish the entire world had this same view. Millions and millions of kitties struggle, across the world, daily, just to survive and it is heartbreaking. I seen something this morning online, while I was getting ready for work, about an animal shelter that found a tiny kitten w it's nose, and most of it's mouth, superglued shut and left to die in the street. I cried and still can not get that image out of my head, the shelter is going the full distance to find and prosecute the villain, that is if there is one decent person out there that would turn them in or a miracle happens. This world is full of cruelty and inhumanity and it's so satisfying to see a video like this that reinforces my belief that there are ppl out there like me that would and/or does dedicate their lives to ensure the survival of this underappreciated species that I love more than life itself. My day revolves around these innocent beauties and I will die with that same agenda being the top priority of my existence, other than working so that I may continue w this labor of love that I find so soothing to the soul, not to mention it makes me feel like I can atone a little for the atrocities that evil people have committed against them.

  • Old San Juan in Puerto Rico is also a City of Cats. Not only that they're all over the place but they have a dedicated building as a Shelter.

  • I think that a lot of people watching this are getting the idea that Kotor is some kind of magical haven for cats. I've never been there but my family is from the Balkans and the older generations at least don't really believe that cats need things like indoor homes and vet visits and proper nutrition. Cats are often considered similar to wild animals that can and should fend for themselves, like squirrels or raccoons. As nice as the shop keepers are, I doubt that they are feeding more than 6300 cats on a daily basis or getting them medical aid when they are sick or injured. This is a bad situation, not a cat utopia.

    • I agree. It's awesome to see cats as a part of a city, but I don't think that most of them are probably getting adequate medical care and are living the easiest of lives. Living outside is hard on cats and will dramatically shorten their lifespan regardless of where they live outside.

    • Whilst what you say is undoubtedly true, it’s important that the younger generation see spay neuter projects like Kotor Kitties are making a difference, and support sterilisation as a long term solution.

  • Cats have saved mankind on countless occasions. It's reason why when one meets a cat they ought to owe the cat a debt of gratitude.

  • I live in Cyprus and we too have a large cat population , most of them are strays . Legend has it that Cyprus was known as the island of snakes and an historical figure whom I thought was the Queen of Sheba bring a ship laden with cats to counter the snake population .
