"Accepting death isn't surrender. Flowers are only flowers because they fall"
Mariko in shogun is one of the most iconic performance of all time. Anna Sawai has done an amazing and wonderful work on her role. For me, Mariko is the MVP of the show so far. Shogun episode 9 - Crimson Sky is one of the greatest episode in television history. What an astonishing show! She totally deserves an Emmy!
The redemption arc of Mariko has one of the best I've ever watched. Incredible character and one of my favorite. I've tried to cover the story of Mariko in this video and gave my best for this. I hope that you will enjoy and love this video.
Thank you for watching!

    • For some reason, this line from Shogun reminded me of Game of Thrones -- when Ned Stark said, "The only time a man can be brave, is when he is afraid." What a surprising & terrific show Shogun has been.

    • Tadaoki Hosokawa, the husband of Garasha Hosokawa, who was the model for Mariko, is the model for Buntaro. Mariko's son is also a real person. In historical fact, after Garasha died in an explosion, it was Garasha's husband who picked up her bones and held mass for her as a Christian every year on the anniversary of her death, and after her husband stopped holding mass, it was Garasha's son who tried to continue the mass. I'm sure both Buntaro and his son will realize Mariko's greatness after she passes away😢

I n the first war he experienced, he got over Imagawa who had more than 20times number of soldiers. So, he was very realistic and did not like Buddahnism as he see them hindering his drastic sosial change. Hence, he had killed great numbers of Buddahlist while Mitsuhide saw it with regret while he was following him.

  • THIS EPISODE 9 IS STUPID!!! IT MAKES NO SENSE AND THE WRITERS DID NOT RESEARCH!! FLAWS: 1) Mariko was tasked to A) rescue Toranaga's Wife, Consort and New Son, and escort them from the castle. B) if refused to leave, that proves all the "royals" are prisoners. Her "Suicide" was to Embarrass Ishido and the Court. 2) Since Ishido relented to release Mariko and the others, HER DUTY WAS TO GET THEM TO Toranaga, letting herself be killed was BREAKING THE PLEDGE to Toranaga!! MAKE NO SENSE, ESPECIALLY since she just found Love with Blackthorne!! 3) THERE IS NO HISTORY OF WOMEN OF ROYALITY COMMITING SEPPUKU! Mariko was a "Lady", ie Royalty, and NOT A SAMURAI! QUOTE: The custom known as "seppuku," which specifically refers to ritual suicide by disembowelment, was reserved for men of the samurai class in feudal Japan. Samurai women had different methods, which traditionally involved either slashing their own throat or stabbing themselves in the heart.Apr 16, 2024" AGAIN, MARIKO WAS NOT A SAMURAI, She Was Royality, "Lady"!!! The Character that Markio is BASED ON, NEVER HAD CONTACT WITH BLACKTHORNE, DID NOT COMMIT SUICIDE OF ANY KIND, was actually killed by her servant as she about to be captured.!! PS, the ACTUAL "Translator" that Toranaga assigned in the REAL story was a JAPANESE MAN, NOT A WOMAN!! The Writing in the Hulu Fantasy Shogun is Bullshit and Full or Flaws and Historical Inaccuracies! Blackthorne's REAL Character "Adams" Actually MARRIED his Japanese Consort assigned by Toranaga and they had two children.

  • I liek the effort man, but this is WAY too long and doesn't feel structured. Jumps all over the place, the inspiring quotes come at the wrong times and don't impact well. Would be better if it was 5 minutes shorter, concise, & put the best moments in order, to feel the growth of the character to her final inspiring defiance, culminating in redemption through sacrifice. This felt like there was no build up at all.

  • This wannabe-blackthorne looks to soft and to fleshy for his role. A constant hunger for "real food" was one of the topics in the book.
