  • It's quite easy to get troll armor before Bronze if you are reasonably adept at kiting. With Eikthyr's forsaken power kiting success can be increased, but there is also a creative way to use it to get trolls for their hides. Most Black forests border a mountain zone. I will run along the border of a mountain zone listening for wolves. When I hear them, I know they spawn close to the Black forest zone. I then go and find a troll and agro him to follow me to the border. I lead him into the mountain zone and listen for the wolf howls. Then I click the forsaken run buff and take him to the wolves. Watch your health, as you likely won't have frost protection yet, but the border is close, so hook up the troll and wolf and head back to the forest. The wolves will switch to the troll if you run around him. If unlucky the troll dispatches the wolf in one blow, but two wolves can decimate a troll (avoid trolls with bats!). Even if the troll survives, it will have lost a lot of health. I have even let the troll return, found another wolf and dragged the troll to him. It's fun, and I can start getting hide armor wearing rags. There are tricks to root armor as well. Abominations will chase you quite far, though they can also stop and return, so be patient. Build four campfires spread out on a grassy meadow that adjoins a swamp. Agro the abomination and kite him through the fires. I find it cuts the time to kill him way down. My latest save I discovered a surtling spawn with the fire jet in a pond of water. This meant that the surtlings would die as soon as they spawned. I then dragged an abomination over to the fire jet, and he was dead in under two minutes with no fight, only kiting in circles. It pays to think out of the box early game! The root helmet is super important for the Bonemass fight, and the root chest is super important in the plains. No more deathsquitos one shotting you with the root chest piece. After the swamp, I mix and match armors now.

  • The Eitr-weave armor should on top of the faster Eitr regeneration add 100 base Eitr - so you are not completely useless anymore when your food buffs are running out. As food stats are running out so fast this tweak would make playing a mage a less tedious experience.

  • Might be worth noting that the magic helm provides only 20% eitr vs the body and legs that give 40% eitr. If you're itching for a little extra def or you want more movement speed. You can swap out the help with a carapace helm or Fenrir helm. for only minimum mana reg loss. Also, if your going into the mountains and don't wanna make mead. You can potentially spot silver ore from the sides of mountains. After acquiring silver, I prefer to make a lox cape > a wolf cape. As acquiring a wolf trophy can be a pain. You noted the root torso, which is great, but the serpents shield also provides pierce resistance if you wanna go that route instead. It'll allow you to maximize blocking by allowing you to absorb more damage by having higher defense potentially. The resistance from the serpents shield AND the root armor DO stack. It's the only resistance in the game that does. So you could make pierce damage do virtually nothing if you combine the two. Only other thing I'll mention about armor, is if you plan on blocking, it isn't based on the weight of your armor, but rather the damage you take. This means that anything that reduces damage received (such as pierce resistance) can surpass even the heaviest of armors. However, do to heavy armors having higher defense respectfully, they're typically the best choice for blocking and parrying. This also means that on higher difficulties. Blocking and defense become steadily more and more useless, as enemies start dealing such an excess of damage, that even a character fully kitted out can't handle basic enemies in there respective area. (Which imo, should be something that is changed... like granting the player a passive poise increase on higher difficulties) Defense also reduces damage from elemental attacks as well. Be weary tho, DoT effects can stack. So standing in Yagluth's AoE and shaman fireballs, even with max def, will shred you.

    • Thank you for your thoughtful and informative response! I appreciate these so much as I find I always learn something from experienced Valheim players like yourself. Really cool point about the stacking pierce resistance with the serpent shield and harnesk. I didn't know that. The thing that keeps me from using that shield is the -15% movement speed. I can't stand being bogged down. That said, to your point about the Eitr Helm, you can easily swap that out for more something like the Fenris hood for a little speed boost. I feel your comment on DOT effects. I've found they are often how I die when I'm not paying enough attention. Anyhow, thanks for the comment! Hope to hear from you again in the future!

With padded armor for example, why didn't they just make you farm the hell out of black iron in the Plains? • Bronze armor is such a disappointment in my opinion: you venture out in the black forest to get materials for it - you're bound to stumble on a troll or two. Not only you're wasting precious bronze on useless gear pieces, instead of crafting tools with it, it also has movement penalty along with having just 6 more armor compared to troll hide set (fully upgraded), and you also get +15 levels of sneak with the latter ...like, what the hell? They should also buff the troll armor, its not easy to kill enough trolls to max it and you'd be better off skipping it, the bonus is negligible and fun fact: you can trap a troll by digging a hole underneath it (you might not survive) and then just stay out of its sight and sneak around. • If you're playing with other people you don't need armor until the Mountains probably. Weapons/shield and food will carry you until the Mountains. In Swamp you can avoid and parry/block everything until Bonemass. Bonemass gives that DR Eikthyr and that thing is busted if you know what you're doing, it's based on armor, but you don't need that much, you can stay in light armor and use the Bonemass power and be fine. Mountains introduces straight up tanks and very fast, numerous enemies. The Drakes do frost damage and you really don't wanna be blocking their attacks early on, they can easily get you locked down and have you killed by something else. Mountains will drain your stamina faster than you can blink your eyeballs. I would up my armor here until I get the Silver weapons. If your stealth is really good, you can stealth around the mountain tops, but if you mine anything it will draw monsters.

I avoid a one-fits-all approach and customize my loadout for the mission. Sometimes I like full Fenris and Eikthyr with all stamina foods to forage for mushrooms or hunt hogs. Sometimes I go all Eitr weave to hunt hares with the Staff of Embers and accompany with Queen power. Sometimes a job requires full carapace and Bonemass. I do think its important to pair your power with your armor. Good video though!

  • I play valheim like a sociopath, the way i play leaves me incapable of playing alone, as i have so much gear on my person that i simply cant carry any drops, wood etc I was going to comment just what i have above, but i feel like itd be a lot more fun to walk you through what i carry the general idea is to become a literal raid boss and exploit the fact that eitr is essentially a second stamina system for armor i carry a feather cape, a full set of fenris armor, a root mark/chestplate and the eitr weave robes, i try not to use teleporters too much so i find myself in the swamps a lot, hence the root pieces, i will typically be running around with the fenris hood, legs and eitr weave robes on, because my characters name is a shadow wizard money gang reference so i want to look like a shadow wizard for weapons i will carry the fire and frost staffs, i usually use the frost staff to slow things down but it melts creatures weak to frost making it unnecessary to carry a frostner (even though i still do, its too good not to) and the fire staff is very strong against things weak to fire, like, very strong, something about hailing fire on your enemies even when theyre not weak to it feels powerful, and for that reason i also carry bile bombs, though if im honest theyre more of a novelty to pull out when im showing someone my playstyle i use the draugr fang as a bow and run poison arrows (i made an ungodly amount of them this one time, ive been using poison arrows for like 50 hours of gameplay please help me) for small melees i have the frostner and the mistwalker, but i also have the fenris claw - fist weapon thingies, i did some testing and full fenris with those is still stronger than skol and hati I have a himmenwaffle or whatever its called, that one lightning atgeir, atgeirs are very good and ive always had one on me from as far back as the black forest, i tend to only use its mouse3 ability i have the demolisher because fuck you and everything around you, jokes aside these things are insane, ive had hammers since the plains biome and never went anywhere without one, doing the hildrs request mission where you go into a crypt was so easy, i lured the boss to a door, closed the door and just pummelled the ground until it died, they stagger most enemies too which is invaluable purely for style points i have the crystal battleaxe, i could substitute krom but theres something wizardy about a crystal battleaxe, even the animations, but the mouse3 ability is why i have it, it strikes alarmingly fast, like seriously if you have one or can craft one, go and make one, eat some stamina food and just, marvel at how fast the mouse3 can be spammed, staggering an enemy and slamming them with the mouse3 of the crystal battleaxe is one of the fastest time to kills ive seen from a melee weapon (sidenote i just went to check a clip to see what else i had, turns out i also carry krom and couldnt part ways with it, but honestly i dont use it. if you want to accommodate krom you have to be good at dodging, parrying, have full stamina food and full fenris armor, its a lot of investment just to play the big sword, but i do it sometimes) for food i always have at least two stamina foods, mushroom omelette and salad, i have a lot of yggdrasil porridge so thats what i use as my eitr food currently, but im aware seeker aspic is better so im making a bunch of it soon i have a wisp though i dont always carry it, and a belt though i dont always carry it i have poison resists, frost resists, stamina and health potions, but finally what makes this build so busted in my opinion the staff of protection and the dead raiser, i have both of these maxed, so i can summon 3 dead, but its really the protection staff that makes them strong looking at this still of my inventory, i could just about squeeze an arbelist in there (make no mistake its a crazy strong weapon if your bow skill isnt high and it drains your stamina too much i hope you found some enjoyment in this read and maybe try out a similar crazy raid boss playstyle because of it, its genuinely very refreshing and had me trying out all the weapons i never crafted

  • Well, I'm personally not really comfortable using a two or even three biomes old armor sets and I find combining the different pieces dumb (you look like a clown). Valheim would definitely benefit from having more options. The heavy armors progress straightforwardly but the light armors are currently very weird. They barely increase your armor and buff random things you don't want. Why would I want Eitr-Weave if I'm not a mage?

    @LungDrago@LungDrago4 ай бұрын
    • Good points. Combining different armor sets look like trash! And yeah, you really give up a lot by not having heavy armor. The game could do with better variety. Maybe that can come in the Ashlands update

    • Yeah it is. its something I have to improve. For instance, you'll probably notice it louder in your right ear and you'll get popping/cracking ocassionally. I believe I've solved the balance issue so future videos won't have that problem. The popping/cracking is harder for me to work out but I am very focused on minimizing it. All that said, thanks for pointing it out. I don't have a good 'ear' for this stuff so it helps when people flag things I otherwise don't notice.

      @12463trf@12463trfАй бұрын
    • @@12463trf using iron to build with is soooooo resource heavy. Game desperately needs some rebalancing. What I don’t get is that you need 20 pieces of iron bars to make anything with, and those mats weigh like 200 lbs. then the pants you made only weigh like 3 lbs. Either lower the requirement, the weight of the bars, or both. It’s just too much.

    • @@googleisadick re-tuning could def be something to look into I agree! I also had another idea as I was trying to sleep, what if iron ore nodes could spawn rarely anywhere buried in the world? 1: this would make iron much more plentiful 2: actually finding them without wishbone would be near impossible, so balance wouldn't be really screwed.. 3:there would be a reason to maybe not use megingjord 99% of the time.
