AVOID These Guys in Luxor, Egypt 🇪🇬

AVOID These Guys in Luxor, Egypt! I loved my entire time in Egypt, but for some reason during my time in Luxor I ran into so many touts, that it really made my entire trip there feel like it was never going to end. I was constantly followed and no matter how many times I said No, they wouldn't take no for an answer. I really hope this changes, but sadly I don't think it will.

  • Let's hope that one day they actually do something about the touts or else I agree people will in fact stop coming to Egypt sadly. For all you saying "why are you so kind to them".... I'm not, just smart. I'm not about to talk 💩 to someone, in their own country, by myself, where I don't even know the language... just think about how fast your life can change anywhere like that if you happen to do it to the wrong person... move smart. 🙏🏻

    • The poverty has done this to them..people in this area have large families. Food is expensive..so is rent..people are fighting to survive. My bro wemt in 2007..he experienced none of this. Good to have some compassion and understanding. Ruling elite doesnt care..neither about the tourists or the poor.

  • Chris: Here are my tips for dealing with the touts. 1) Wear a headset and pretend you are on a call. 2) Speak to the tout in a language they do not know. I usually speak Thai in the middle east. 3) This is my favorite. Ask to borrow some money from them. I do have to remind myself how deep the poverty is for people to be so insistent. I am loving your Egypt series Chris!

  • It was very entertaining watching your interaction with the two shopkeepers. It was pretty fun. The only way that I think you could avoid being harassed for buggy rides, camel rides, tours, etc. is being on a tour but it does take away some of the fun when you want to be alone but in your other video you talked about how they were just trying to make a living and then you see what it’s like. Once you get a rest after rest after harassed gets old after a while quick even as patient as you are you got tired of it. I like your videos very much. I just wish for someone wanting to go over there that you would talk to little bit more about the logistics like how you got from point a to point B you start your day especially if you wanted to do a little bit of this on your own without the tour, the logistics is very useful, very helpful for someone wanting to navigate the tour on their own

It is utterly preposterous that these local vendors assume every tourist is an naive newcomer to the country with sly smiles exploiting tourists’ lack of knowledge about local prices and taking advantage of any opportunity to make a profit through cunning tactics employed by some of them. These behavior should not be tolerated in this country. However, I strongly believe that Egypt is an extraordinary country with a rich culture, awe-inspiring history, and delightful weather. In certain places of the world niceness is associated with weakness. Also be aware the touts would never behave this way with an Arab tourist. Arabs would never tolerate such behavior. You got to harden your heart. Great video Chris except for the touts.

During a visit to Luxor and the Valley of the Kings, the keeper of the tombs made us jump over some fence to take a picture of us in the tomb, and then he asked for money for it, and when some tourists came by, he pretended to yell at us for breaking the rules. They are unbelievable. I come from Serbia, which is not a much richer country than Egypt, we are not the rich West... It's funny to me.

  • First, Chris, you are very patient, congratulations! Egypt can be a real nice experience, depending on where you go and how you behave. It use to be agreable in the pure local places, in remote areas where the tourists never go. But of course it can take time to be accepted and it doesn't fit with a tourist program. taking enough time is the key. Bettrer go slowly and taste one area, and come back later as possible to see other places. The real backpackers life is disappearing, the "bourgeois" take all the place... Remember cameras and photos non stop is not ageable for people in most countries. Better stay simple, it will open all the doors. In fact it kills the real contact. I tell you that, I travelled all my life with low budget.

I generally say “no thanks” “no” and then ignore them - sadly. Starting up a conversation with a “hello” generally is construed as an invitation to solicit relentlessly. Egypt looks beautiful and is on list of places to go. On hold for now because of the political trouble in the region.

  • I love the barging in the market and the show they'll put on. From Marocco to Indonesia, it's all the same fun game. If they ask you 100 tell them you have 50 or less. They will let you go. You can always go to a resort if you don't like the locals. Much love and blessings from the Netherlands🖐🏾

  • Man the more videos I watch of people travelling countries like this, the more I realize I would probably end up getting in trouble lol. I don't think I could keep my composure like you when being harassed to spend money. I get that they are probably struggling to make a living but holy hell, take no for an answer! 🤣

  • Chris one thing i would advise you on is get one of those Jalabayas. It's the robe that the men are wearing casually. Get a high quality one. Super comfortable man. Egyptian cotton. Lay off the cheap mass produced ancient Egyptian relics lol.

  • Thanks for showing this vieo. Well done and I have been to Egypt. Yes, the horse and carriage drivers are very annoying. My private Egyptian guide said that they give Egypt a bad name and also the paid government workers inside the temples who want to show the hot spots for photography are working looking for tips.
