  • Two awesome talents. The slight difference in the tones of the two voices make for such a beautiful blend in harmony. Dusty is as always fantastic, Anne Murray always had such a smoothness to her songs. Both beautiful ladies!!!

  • Good Lord, what is wrong with you people? It's about the music, not people's personal lives. How would you like to live under a microscope and be judged by every movement? Both of these women are *legends* and I feel honored simply to have been on the planet at the same time they were/are. Also, out of respect to Anne, she has worked so hard all her life to give us the GIFT of her music and incomparable voice - she deserves nothing but our respect.

I'm watching all her interviews and performances.She was so captivating, her smile, her speaking voice..what a package ,when she was in public. So lovable.

  • Dusty had a fabulous natural voice that was controlled only from the heart and soul and so was able to improvise, a voice with feeling that could tear your heart out. I also liked Judith Durham, a superb classically trained voice who sang to perfection like a classical musician but didn't have the soul that Dusty had.

  • Alan, I love Dusty Springfield too. She's one of my favorite British females. But to compare Dusty with Anne Murray is like comparing apples to oranges. In my opinion the two singers belong to two different categories. Both singers have their signature songs, but I can't seem to group to two singers in the same category.

  • i love dusty and i love anne. i love them together, and i love them apart. this is a great vid. and btw, anne could very well be a closet case. i know a lot of ex-married lesbians, who because of career and/or commitment to their 'family' will never be out. believe me on this. i know the signs. anne may not have been an out lesbian, and not just because of her 'husky' voice does she give out gay vibes. there is plenty to read. but i tire of this argument.

  • Sorry but Anne Murray was no Dusty Springfield. Dusty had something inside, that lifted her above most others. I much prefer Dusty's version of I Just Fall In Love Again.

    @alanellaway8066@alanellaway80667 жыл бұрын
    • Alan, you know, Anne stated Dusty was her favorite female vocalist. This is a huge compliment coming from an incredible singer like Anne. Dusty's my favorite. Wasn't happy when Anne took Dusty's "I Just Fall In Love Again" and overdubbed herself on that over Dusty's vocal. But there is real magic in the harmony part. Best part of Dusty's track is the intro part, "Dreaming I must be Dreaming" and Anne choose to use her own voice on that verse instead, a criminal offense to erase Dusty's vocal perfection! lol. But on the other hand, Dusty may have gained some new young fans via Anne including it on her "Duets" LP. Would love to know what Dusty thought of it. Saw Anne live on her last concert tour, she was flawless and incredible.

      @loriromano6399@loriromano63997 жыл бұрын
    • Hi Lori, I appreciate your feedback and insights. yes, I was aware that Anne had stated that Dusty was her favorite singer, but could have done without her writing about Dusty making a pass at her, while less than sober and then attacking her husband. I imagine we have all had someone a friend or family member who got drunk and made a fool of themselves, I don't know if Anne's version is accurate, but to make it one of the features of her brief mentions of Dusty, strikes me as a little shabby and disrespectful. Sometimes discretion is the better part of valor. For my taste I can enjoy Anne's singing, but like Julie Andrews it is a bit clinical for me. But it would not do if we all felt the same about our favorites. I am happy that you had the pleasure of Anne's last concert tour.. I saw Dusty record one of her TV series, and her concert at The London Palladium after her last Talk of The Town show got cancelled . I was living in berlin in 1979 when she had her huge successes at Drury LAne in 1979, and am happy that I flew in to see her-she was Great!

      @alanellaway8066@alanellaway80667 жыл бұрын
    • Alan, agree 100% regarding Anne's lack of discretion. It was disrespectful to say the least. Whenever I hear Anne nowadays, I have this bad recollection that diminishes the experience for me. Dusty and Anne go way back. Anne was good to Dusty over the years, read Dusty reached out to her towards the end of her life, just to talk over the phone (book said she didn't reach out to many at that time, to say goodbye). Not sure Anne realized what she wrote was a betrayal. There has been talk of Anne being gay since the start of her career. Maybe she viewed it as an opportunity to set the record straight (no pun intended). Like, " Hey everybody, If I turned Dusty down, that ought to prove to the world that I'm straight!" Who knows what she was thinking or if the story she told is even true. Anne's singing is RESTRAINED to the max. But a rich alto tone like no other. Well, Karen Carpenter is in that league. Actually, Karen I think is a better singer than Anne. But still think Anne is incredible vocally. She's human and maybe she now sees she made a mistake and regrets it. Certainly hope so.

      @loriromano6399@loriromano63997 жыл бұрын
    • I think your comments are quite fair Lori. It's a little strange to me, as a Gay man, how Anne has become such an icon for gay females, if I am honest, I think there is some kind of gay aura about her. It just wouldn't have surprised anyone to hear that she was gay, but she has denied it, and she appears sincere, and maybe you are right about her motivation to use the story as a means to confirm her straightness( a little unkind if that is the case). While I can enjoy both Anne and Karen's voices, there is just something about the wit and innate intelligence, that Dusty brings to a song. I think a Great example is The Windmills of Your Mind from the Memphis Album, it's just such a complex song, but she sounds like she gets every word! I wonder what she would have don with some of the wonderful sons from Joni Mitchell-particularly the Blue album.

      @alanellaway8066@alanellaway80667 жыл бұрын
    • Alan, "Windmills of Your Mind" she is the only one I've ever heard cover that does justice to the song and does not make it monotonous. She told the musicians in the studio to play it way slower as they were struggling with it. Her cover is brilliant, and that has always been one of my favorite songs of hers. An incredibly hard song to sing. She brings a depth to it, no doubt. What is really ironic is that I read somewhere that Dusty stated, "Never understood the lyrics to that song." It is full of visual imagery. Just goes to show how amazing she was that she could make us all think she got it and she didn't! They lyrics are kind of all over the place. Think it's partly about someone breaking up and losing their mind over the relationship ending and the never ending chaos of life. There are a couple of lines in it that I thought Dusty probably 'got' more than most people, In fact, I tended to think that it was one of the songs she could most relate to. But not so. Have a tremendous amount of respect for Dusty for what she accomplished over the years despite the many challenges she had to endure both personally and professionally. As far as Anne goes, she could be straight as she claims. Or maybe she could be bi and in denial her entire life. That could speak to her restrained singing quality, don't you think? lol. Oh yes, she does have a gay aura, no doubt. When I listen to this duet, I kind of start laughing when Anne starts to sing with her strong sexy alto voice. And Dusty with her ultra fem breathy soft voice. It's a trip. Most people would think Dusty was straight and Anne was the gay one just listening to them.

    @ScooterMcBean@ScooterMcBean13 жыл бұрын
  • I think it's pretty obvious, Anne. Anyway, this vid's a treat, but why does Anne act as if Dusty's a dinosaur? There's only a 6-year age diff, hardly a different generation. Heck, Annie's not even a true Baby Boomer!

    @rebradroot@rebradroot14 жыл бұрын
  • @oldlady32 In this day and age there is no reason for a person to deny their sexual identity, unless it is to cover for the fact that they have been lying to people for their entire life. What makes it worse is when they are lying to the public and its common knowledge in closer circles, the public are being played as fools. When George Takei publicly came out of the closet at the age of 68, he showed real courage, but I don't think he was such a vehement denier.
