This song is about taking control of your life and making it awesome. A certain shade of green in my opinion can be interpreted in a number of ways both literally and metaphorically. In a sense he's saying quit waiting for everything to be perfect and exactly as you envisioned. Seize the day now instead of making excuses. Go and live your dreams now without excuse. Quit waiting for the so called perfect situation and do what you want to do with your life before it's too late.

Oh man, this song kicks ass! Incubus between 1995-2004 were killer in my opinion :)
AYVSO Sucks? I respect your opinion, but I'd like to think Morning View is a pretty good early 2000s alternative album. Incubus went from a really sick funk rock/alternative metal band, to a pretty cool alternative rock band. I'm not too keen on anything past Light Grenades (2006), but given that every album they made after Fungus Amongus varies in style/is very different from their previous albums, Morning View is different and well done in its own right :) It's more so calming and ethereal. It's a great album for a chill day.

Lyrics (Fixed Version) : A certain shade of green Tell me is that what you need? All signs around They say move ahead Could someone please explain to me Your ever present lack of speed Are your muscles bound by ropes Or do crutches cloud your day My sources say the road is clear And street signs point the way You gonna stand around 'til 2012 AD? What are you waiting for? A certain shade of green I think I grew a gray watching you procrastinate What are you waiting for? A certain shade of green! Would a written invitation Signed choose now or lose it all? Sedate your hesitation Or inflame and make you stall You've been raised in limitation But that glove never fit quite right The time has passed for hand me downs Choose a new Please evolve Take flight You gonna stand around 'til 2012 AD? What are you waiting for? A certain shade of green! I think I grew a gray watching you procrastinate Green... What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? A written invitation? A public declaration? A private consolation? Remember when you... I think I grew a gray watching you... procrastinate! You gonna stand around 'til 2012 AD? What are you waiting for? A certain shade of green! I think I grew a gray watching you procrastinate What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for? What are you waiting for...

Saw you guys live twice, f*cking incredible. The first time was especially memorable, I drove from Pittsburgh to Virginia Beach for the show, bought lawn tickets because I enjoy walking around during shows and it rained that day so they CLOSED the lawn section and crammed hundreds of us behind the main seats under the roof, heard Young the Giant play but didn't see them, I was about to give it up and go back to the hotel, I asked my girlfriend what she thought, she said let's wait. Not 5 minutes later your photographer (I had no idea initially) approached me and struck up a conversation, after he heard I drove 10 hours to see you guys he literally pulled out two pit passes and gave them to me, said you guys gave him some and had him hand them out, I was beyond grateful, went and got my wrist band and saw you guys from 15 feet away, insane show, you guys sound so good live, thanks for hooking me up and saving my first Incubus show! You guys f*cking rock!

First time I heard Incubus was in the "Family Values Tour 1998" live album, they played "New Skin". I decided to go buy my first Incubus album when they released the "Pardon Me" video, so I went and got "Make Yourself", and since I had some extra money I also got "SCIENCE" which ended up becoming my favorite album at the time, and it probably still is. When I went to pay for the album, the cashier told me... "Might as well take 'FUNGUS AMONGUS'... it's in the sales section' // I didn't even know there was an earlier album before SCIENCE... so I left with THREE Incubus albums that day, and it was a "Listen To Incubus ALL Week" situation. In a sense he's saying quit waiting for everything to be perfect and exactly as you envisioned. Seize the day now instead of making excuses. Go and live your dreams now without excuse. Quit waiting for the so called perfect situation and do what you want to do with your life before it's too late.
In short quit procrastinating
Falling Into Galaxies I liked his explanation better...but you were succinct.
Makes sense. It's not what I get from it but I understand.
Seemed very self explanatory the lyrics. Certain shade of green is indeed waiting for just the right moment when by traffic light terms any green is go. Like he said when you procrastinate you choose last.
Green is envy
Straight classic. The entire S.C.I.E.N.C.E. album is classic
20 years ago This song led me down the path of alternative, than on to hardcore, post hardcore, metalcore and eventually deathcore. This song started it all for me!
Awesome!!!
Incubus isn't a metal band
When did he say it was?
@@MattyIcecubes correct, which is why is said it led me down the path of alternative, than onto heavier music as the years went by.
I mean S.C.I.E.N.C.E and Fungus Among Us are literally nu metal with funk elements so weird how that works
Thumbs up if you think S.C.I.E.N.C.E is the best album.
S.C.I.E.N.C.E is 2nd, Morning View is 1st
+MJNation HA!! So wrong.
+ramenman Fungus Amongus was a close tie.
Christopher Z HA!! So right.
LOL @ Morning View being the best. That's when they started going downhill. S.C.I.E.N.C.E #1 with Make Yourself at #2 for me.
The late 90's and early 2000's vibes in this music video gives me such nostalgia
I remember when 2012 AD was way off in the future, not four years ago. Goddamnit, I'm so old.
Ah, wasn't that the year the world ended?
Haha! I feel you man
ganondorfchampin Which time?
I waited until 2012A.D. for Incubus to have another good song........ Wasted time
The very thing no one would shut up about, that year? yes...yes it is. I skipped school that day.
Who's still procrastinating in 2020 AD?
Faiz Shah 😂😂😂
Only because this and drawing or do my taxes. What sounds more appealing?
I'll do that tomorrow.
haha
me!
SCIENCE was one of the best albums ever written.
Dj Lyfe was so ahead of his time wearing a mask in 1997.
Haha!
And a surgical mask at that too 😂
lol
Probably just got back from Japan or something. In Asia they’ve been doing that shit for years.
Incubus' and MB20's fame suits for 2020 quarantine
This was Incubus, before having girlfriends. Top.
Haha I said ever since they got girlfriends its like they've forgotten about their fans and now they only make music for their girlfriends
+trustkill415 i don't blame him, she's perfect. I just prefere the old time songs. The power was different.
É vero. Hahahahaha' Comecei a curtir Incubus não tem muito tempo mas sei que essa foi a melhor época deles.
Be diverse or become Nickelback. P.S. Don't become Nickelback.
Carascoroscovaldo yeeeeeee whatever the fuck you said.
Oh man, this song kicks ass! Incubus between 1995-2004 were killer in my opinion :)
no, morning view is s¥©|{$
AYVSO Sucks? I respect your opinion, but I'd like to think Morning View is a pretty good early 2000s alternative album. Incubus went from a really sick funk rock/alternative metal band, to a pretty cool alternative rock band. I'm not too keen on anything past Light Grenades (2006), but given that every album they made after Fungus Amongus varies in style/is very different from their previous albums, Morning View is different and well done in its own right :) It's more so calming and ethereal. It's a great album for a chill day.
no, it's just radio oriented album for making money. and i'm absolutely convinced of this. where there is lucre, there no place for art.
AYVSO I see where you're coming from :) I do agree with you about the radio. I haven't listened to it in 8 years.
Umm Incubus 1995-1998
Ah, the good old days. This was one of the cassettes I destroyed from playing over and over and over in the late 90s.
S.C.I.E.N.C.E .. the best incubus album ever made!
Gino Gardiola Yeah the only good one actually.
Nino Falletta Thanks for your opinion :) I personally think that ACTUALLY they are all fantastic albums! :D
+Nino Falletta Make Yourself is my favorite. ;-)
+Gino Gardiola They had other albums?
Wispier Tetrahedrons Their last good album was Make Yourself.
Back when his voice was one of the best in the business!! Hit that like if you're Still making yourself 20 years later
now it's shit
Before they became a boy band they were amazing live. Saw them with Korn in the uk mid 90’s. One of the best shows I’ve ever attended
With korn no way !! Bet that we insane bro! 🤘
Amazing. Crown booed the band before and were starting to boo Incubus but that lasted 10 seconds 😂 The place went nuts. I though everyone in there would have zero energy for the Korn set but is was pure chaos
I saw that tour in Montréal, Orgy was the opening band
such an underrated song.
This deserves more likes!
Alannah Jones the slowed down version I think is their better version of this song. it sounds similarly like sevendust this way. no complaints!! I think these guys are brilliant.
i know rite. I was like only 1.8mill views??
suele pasar con las mejores canciones, que no son hit single
But soo good
who's still procrastinating in 2024 AD??
Me fr
Yikes 🫣
tryin not to
I listened the crap out of the album this came off (S.C.I.E.N.C.E.) before they were on the radio or had any major mainstream success, and I gotta say that this is the Incubus that still moves me.
but it was there awesome major mainstream sucess from drive, warmth that made me love them and science was a sick album..
This was the only album I liked! Still have the same one from high school. People always ask me who in listing to lol
If you really like Incubus then S.C.I.E.N.C.E is not a sick album for you! I listened to all of their albums and singles. Smoking the herb again up to Promises, Promises. Incubus needs to have a walk of fame.
Andrew Russo I found out about them on make yourself hitting success but... I really have to say this is my favorite. Not all their albums stuck with me but this and make yourself were amazing for what they were meant to be
Same, a friend introduced me years before they had any radio play and I fell in love with Fungus Amongus and S.C.I.E.N.C.E. I'd never heard anything like it after 35 years of listening to other great music (yes I'm old now). They still remain one of my all time favorite bands, and have become my kids' s as well (who are now teenagers) since they've been hearing them since they were babies...
A shame that they never again rocked as hard as they did on this record.
SCIENCE is still one of my favourite albums ever. It's just amazing on every track and this is one of the best ones. I'll always have a major soft spot for New Skin since it was my first exposure to it.
This album was so underground way before they got famous... AOL 3.0!
Yeah
eevd350z saw them in 97 family values tour in kazoo mi replaced ice cube. got whiplash from Rammstein
and its still the best, well imo anyway. they have a lot of good songs but every song on science is decent.
"famous"
Online Anywhere!
I'll always miss nu-metal adjacent Incubus.
criminally underrated album, just bought a copy on vinyl as it's one of my top favorite albums of all time. Really wish they'd give like, a S.C.I.E.N.C.E. 2.0 or somethin lol just for the lawlz at this point
I'd like to say Incubus from 1992-1997 was their peak (cult wise). After Dirk left it was never the same...
Brandon’s dreads were a classic😂😂😂
this album was so jazzy & new age metal
LOVE LOVE LOVE INCUBUS!! Lifelong fan since SCIENCE!!
Grew up on this shit. I remember before Incubus got huge this album was already receiving praise and recognition by many! Love these dudes. Glad to see they have evolved but this is my favorite LP hands down. Hometown heroes. I can’t really name a genre when it comes to Incubus. For those of us that grew up with them in Calabasas and Ventura County…there just Incubus. They sound like the area they came from. Word!
Brandon’s dreadlocks are sooo cool
It’s mat-locks for white peoples . Locs are for black peoples. But yes he does pull them off.
Oh man i wish i could go back
ahead of time
This is the Incubus i will always love 🥺
311 & incubus hold a special place in my heart always
311 is yess
I LOOOOVE Incubus! 24 years a fan! Can't wait to see you guys in Sydney next month ❤
Redefine is my favorite song by Incubus.
mine too
20 years later and still jumping like a crazy person in my living room every time i hear this and love it!!
0:33 my god the groove!
THE MAGIC MEDICINE WORKED!!!!!
This is one of my favorite songs. Ever. ♥
Me too
Lyrics (Fixed Version) : A certain shade of green Tell me is that what you need?
Only mistake is the second line, it's need instead of mean. Thanks by the way
@@jmanuiop5771 the problem has been fixed
2012 AD. 11 years ago.
Drums on this song are nuts!!
I miss how hard the early albums were. S.C.I.E.N.C.E. is hands down my favorite album.
Still the best Incubus song in my opinion...
The only song I know with the word procrastinate in...I'm glad Incubus put an end to all this procrastinating.
the dj was way ahead of our time
remembering Golden times when music like this was KING, but will always be KING in my mind 👍🔥🔥🔥
Best Incubus album hands down.
The original bass player for this band was awesome. They made a change after morning view, and that was it for me.
A certain shade of GREEN!!
All the instrument are straight forward balanced in this album what an engginering 👍
i have written this on several incubus videos across youtube, so if the name and comment sound familiar i apologize, but i will say it again. Incubus between 1997 - 2004 ( SCIENCE, Make yourself, Morning View, and a Crow Left of the Murder, ) was their prime as a band. What came after that is still great music, everything incubus makes is gold, but this is the sound i grew to love.
I miss this incubus
this song's about being stuck behind someone in traffic who just won't budge even though the light was green.
J B yo dude, it’s called a joke
Omg it is! Wtf!
You got it man
Miss when they use to play at concerts with System Of A Down & Korn ♡
The best song of this band
Saw Incubus live last night at Nottingham FM Arena, they played this for the encore. UNBELIEVABLE! Everyone was jumping around going crazy! One of the best moments ever!
That’s sooo cool
Pretty much this whole album is a greatest hits
Bradon's poor Dad was in that space suit 😂
Brandon's dreads! :D
I think I actually stood around till about 2012 AD. Smh
For about 3 weeks back when this album came out, my cable provider had a channel called X that only had the license to like 10 music videos they’d play on repeat. This one and New Noise by Refused were among the 10. I more than got my money’s worth out of those two albums
TE AMO INCUBUS 😭👍💗
Por fin alguien que habla español xd
sii incubus lo mejor
Though I didn't listen to this song or album until 2004. This song is still my favorite song ever from Incubus
magic medicine is so spacey
Such an underrated song and Album!
Best incubus album this is one of my all time favorite albums
I didn't realize they made music like this - I like it!
Listen to their first album. This was before they changed their sound to go mainstream
@@IshiMonae This was my introduction to Incubus. Then they discovered that they could write mellower, more radio friendly music and for me, it wasn't nearly as interesting or enjoyable. Morning View was my end point. Yes, the best bands adapt and change, they don't just release the same album over and over again but I truly miss this era of Incubus. The more recent stuff doesn't move me or excite me like SCIENCE did, and still does.
Me too!.. I have a tendency to call all after this “Incubitch”. Not mad at them, just liked this “them” better.
@@ghendar I won’t lie I listen to this stuff & fungus more than morning view (they seem like less sneaky albums) but I am glad for them they aren’t on hyper spun doing crystal meth commercials anymore. I’ve had so many people “stand up” for this song to me before as an “anti-pot” song or something 😂. Try some weak angel dust before a rave and get back to me on what a certain shade green means.
That opening riff immediately takes me back to Bar Metro, Tottenham Court Road in 1998 😢 My hair in dreads, Pantera tshirt, baggy Criminal Damage Jeans...😔
I believe all certain shades of green are now truly appreciated #2022
I still listen to this album almost every day. Incubus seriously has a phenomenal discography!
The astronaut was Brandon's dad. 😄👌
09
actually?
I respect incubus for how they have matured in their music over the years… but… Who would vote for a live show of only the 90’s incubus?
My all time favourite Incubus song and they refuse to play it live.
It is funny because I'm procrastinating while listening to this
+The Naked Ant No dude, life can wait. Going to work/class is procrastinating listening to Incubus/getting high/enjoying life.
lol thats me. (But every day!!) XD
The Naked Ant are you sitting in front of your computer still?
The Naked Ant X2 hahahahahha
Same
Incubus were so fucking good with Dirk Lance.
This song is my top 5 favorites from Incubes! I can listen to this all day
Demos, Science and make yourself best era Incubus
You right
'S.C.I.E.N.C.E .. the best incubus album ever made! ' Agreed
no cap
Love this style of incubus....wish they kept to this but Brandon is absolutely still amazing on vocals to this day
LOVE Incubus in their Aries szn.
This album is just so funky I love it
It’s just incredible knowing that korn are the ones who discovered incubus
for real? did not know that. believable they found so many groups
@@1q3er5 yeah
Not Korn. Paul Pontius was the man that spoted Incubus, he signed both bands to the Epic/Immortal label, they were just on the same label but Paul was the one who discovered them.
Incubus in the late 90s kicked ass, saw them with (Hed) PE open for Korn in '98.
is the beast album of the band EVERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
The OLD Incubus > ALL
It’s 2020 AD, and I’m still waiting for a certain shade of green....
the acoustic version gives it such a different feel
First started getting stoned, still had my high school friends, early 20s, thought this was the coolest shit. Wasn’t wrong
Good lord this album had some GREAT bass 👍
one of my favourites songs of incubus !
97 was the year of breakout music across all genres that never really went anywhere. Kinda like 92's heavy metal scene but in reverse. Shameful. This album was epic
GREAT TIMES INDEED!
the good old days
WAH WAH WAH WAH
This record is so good. Wish it got more love live.
I remember seeing Incubus twice in one week when they opened for 311 back before they were really famous. One of the shows was at UMASS Amherst and my friends and I had stayed overnight and the morning after the show we went to Ihop before heading home....Incubus was there eating...we had enjoyed them at the show but had no idea who they were before that...so we just waved and said hi. I love those kinds of experiences.
this is real music
